4/10/11: OPENING DAY HIGHLIGHTS

In a rare MVABL occurrence, all home teams actually won their games on Sunday, April 10. With the help of some beautiful weather and, maybe not-so-much help with the wind, high scoring games were pretty much the norm throughout the day.
The one exception was the Cardinals knocking off the Thunder 3-2, backed up by a strong performance from former Sinclair pitcher Josh Pfeiffer who struck out 14 over six innings of work. Drew Bost added a home run for the Thunder in the loss.
The defending champ Royals had their hands full with the mighty gusts of wind, not to mention the expansion Athletics who outhomered the Boys in Blue 6-1 en route to 17-10 A's victory.
The Rangers used a 24-hit attack to knock off the Mariners 22-10 in eight innings. Shawn Schmitt struck out 10 and tied the MVABL record for career wins with his 31st 'W'. Jonmarc Lippincott added four hits, two doubles, and six RBIs for the Rangers. Chris Ranstead and Gabe Thomas added longballs for the Mariners.
The Redlegs got a little revenge on the Shockers, who knocked them out of last season's playoff, with an 11-6 win. Home runs were prevalent in this one as well, as Justin McCurdy, Jacob Robinson, and Brandon Howard homered for the Redlegs, and Thomas Fluty went deep for the Shockers.
The Slammers looked a little weary on defense, but got enough support on the offensive side to defeat the Tigers 10-5 at Bellbrook H.S.
