4/20/09: WEEK 1 RECAP

Homers and rain on tap for Opening Day
Reigning league MVP Drew York powered his new club, the Thunder, to an 11-9 win at Athletes in Action on Sunday, April 19. York connected on two long home runs to left-center. The Shockers got in the HR derby act as well with longballs off the bats of Doc Hayes, Thomas Fluty, and Taylor Hause. The Thunders' victory marked the first time since 2003 that an expansion team opened up the season with a 'W'. The Centerville Bargos and Ohio Woodpeckers accomplished the feat in '03.
Rangers' righty Brad Clark got the win in his first Opening Day start as the Rangers knocked off the Indians, 12-6. Brandon Howard went deep for the Rangers.
The Slammers/Dragons game was halted in the middle of their game due to poor playing conditions. This game will be continued at a later date. The Royals/Astros nightcap was postponed.
