Rangers Can’t Close Door

The Dayton Rangers led for 8 innings on Sunday before the Indians unleashed a 9th inning attack. The Indians batted around in the final frame and accumulated 7 runs to win by a score of 11-5.

The Rangers jumped out to a 5-1 lead after 4 innings but failed to register another run the rest of the game. Joe Staten launched a double in the first inning to score Jeremy Cunningham with the first run. Shane Fallen tripled to the fence in left to score Jelani Arnold with the first of three runs in the second. The fifth run came on a Staten blast to right center that left a permanent dent in the outfield fence tubing that resulted in a triple, his first since 2005.

The Indians’ Phil Beach entered into the game in the 7th and allowed only two hits to thwart any attempt of the Rangers scoring any additional runs.

Rangers’ pitchers accounted for 8 hits-batsmen on the day, pushing the yearly total to 14 painful free passes.

Offensive performances of note: Jared Bradley, Jeremy Cunningham, and Joe Staten each had two hits. Joe added a double and a triple. Shane Fallen had an RBI triple.
