Rain mostly holds off, baseball resumes
The Slammers remain one of the hottest teams in the league, spoiling the Mariners two-game winning streak, knocking off the Mariners 14-9. Springboro grad Tyler Hogan gave up one hit and struck out 6 for the win. Ben Butler and Jason Jamerson hit HRs for the Slammers. Chris Ranstead homered twice for the Mariners, as PJ Dobbins also added a 3-run shot in the loss.
The Rangers are the only other 3-0 team in the league after a doubleheader sweep of the Tigers. The Rangers squeaked out a 7-5 win in game one as Ben Schooler tossed three hitless innings of relief for the win. The Rangers' Josh Cawein, Joe Staten, and James Robinson launched long balls for the Rangers in an 8-1 game two win. Jeremy Marshall homered for the Tigers.
The Royals won their third straight knocking off the Redlegs 5-2. Jason Holmberg homered for the Boys in Blue and Chris Jergens struck out the side in the ninth for the save.
The Shockers and Thunder played a wet and wild one at Rotary with the Shockers coming out victorious in game 1 of their doubleheader 16-15. The Shockers and Thunder reached the bottom of the fifth in a 6-6 stalemate, but Mother Nature was too much for the pitcher's mound and forced this game into a tie. This game will most likely not be continued since neither team plays each other again and budgetary constraints come into play. Stats will be counted however.
The Cardinals and Blue Jays knocked off the Athletics at Fairborn Legion Field. The Jays' Will Howard sent two balls over the fence and TJ Lee picked up the win on the mound. Shawn Haffner also went yard for the Jays. The Cards' Casey Fannin looked sharp on the hill, tossing 7-plus innings, striking out 7. Zach Hembree picked up his second straight save for the 2-0 Cardinals.
