5/16/10: Week 5 Highlights

   A jam-packed weekend of baseball wrapped up with some exciting games and great individual performances.
   On Saturday, May 15, the Slammers' Justin Dunlap fell a single short of the cycle, but managed to cap off the day with a grand slam and 7RBI in an 16-2 Slammers win over the Dragons. Luke Lawson, the Slammers' first round draft pick, made his inaugural MVABL start and pitched a 7 inning complete game allowing 4 hits, 2 earned runs, and struck out 7. Indians' righty Matt Spradlin struck out 11 over 8 innings of work, allowing 2 hits and no earned runs in a 4-3 win over the Cardinals. The Royals/Redlegs matchup needed 10 innings, when the Royals were able to score in the bottom of the 10th on a wild pitch. The Rangers defeated the Shockers 9-3 as Clint Wolf homered and hit two doubles. Jonmarc Lippincott recorded his 300th career run scored in the league.
   Sunday's weather report called for chances of rain throughout the day, but luckily Mother Nature was much kinder than the weatherman. The Slammers started off the day with an 8-2 victory over the Cardinals. The Rangers got by the Dragons 11-6 as Shawn Schmitt improved to 4-0 lifetime against the Dragons. Clint Wolf added a single, double and triple to give him six hits (5 extra-base hits) on the weekend. Chris Flaherty doubled three times for the Dragons. The Thunder continued their MVABL dominance improving to 5-0 on the season with a 19-10 win over the Redlegs. David Moss launched his third home run of the year, while Drew York, Greg Moss, and Lee Jury added three hits each. The Indians got the best of the Astros, winning 9-5 as Matt Coleman improved to 2-0 on the mound. Newly acquired Reston Wilson went 4-for-4 with a home run for the Tribe. And finally, the Royals got to play at Fairmont high school and defeated the Shockers 7-4.
