Clark Pushes Record to 3-0, Rangers Win 4th Straight

The Rangers knocked off the Kettering Royals 7-3 on Sunday, May 17 at AIA.

The Royals got the scoring underway in the top of the second as Kevin Reynolds singled in Brendan Regan with two outs for a 1-0 Royals lead. The Rangers answered in the bottom of the frame as Jonmarc Lippincott led off with a walk and Brad Clark followed with a single. Brandon Howard then doubled to right field to score Lippincott. Robert Riley followed with a sac fly to left to put the Rangers on top 2-1. The Royals took the lead back in the top of the third as Chris Jergens and Tim Peffley doubled in succession. Jergens scored on Peffley’s two-bagger, and Peffley came around on an errant throw to third on a stolen base attempt. The Rangers tied the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the third as Clint Wolf singled in Steve Marshall.

Marshall, coming in to his third at-bat in the fifth inning, had reached base in 9 of 12 plate appearances on the season, but was still looking for that elusive base hit. Steve ruined his chances of a .000 season batting average with a leadoff triple to right-center to start off the inning. Jacob Robinson knocked him in with a sac fly to center to give the Rangers a 4-3 lead. The Rangers got a couple of insurance runs in the sixth as the Rangers utilized the sun for a couple of lucky breaks and a 6-3 lead. The final tally for the Rangers came in the 7th as Clint Wolf walked, stole second and third, and scored on a wild pitch.

Brad Clark did a great job on the mound holding the Boys in Blue scoreless over the final six innings of play, improving his record to 3-0 on the season. Clark struck out five in the complete game victory.
