Royals Handcuff Rangers, 8-4
The Dayton Rangers followed up an ugly fielding performance on Saturday with an
even more costly dose of the ‘whoops’ on Sunday, falling to the Kettering
Royals 8-4.
Jacob
Robinson took the tough loss for the Rangers, who committed six errors on the
night, resulting in four unearned runs. Jake pitched the complete game, not
walking a single batter, and striking out eight.
Royals rookie Jason
Holmberg shut down the Rangers offense for the first 6 innings, building a 6-0
lead at that point. Brad Clark singled in Clint Wolf in the seventh inning to
get the Rangers their first tally of the night. The Rangers didn’t go down
quietly though. In the ninth inning, Jack Millard and Jake Robinson each walked
and Jonmarc Lippincott singled to left to load the bases. Clint Wolf then drove
in Millard and Robinson with a single to center. After a fielder’s choice, Brad
Clark singled in Wolf to cut the lead to 8-4. However, the rally was thwarted
when Royals 3b Nathan Schwab snagged a flyball at the
fence in foul territory to lock up the victory for the Royals.
Offensive performances of note: Jeremy
Lippincott 1-3 3B; Clint Wolf 2-4 2RBI; Jonmarc Lippincott 2-3; Brad Clark 2-4
2RBI.
