WEEK 6 RECAPS
Rain Still an Unwelcome Sight
With rain ruining games in the latter half of the day, the MVABL still awaits a weekend of completing a full slate of games. But for the games that did get in, plenty of highlights loomed.
The Shockers started off the morning with a doubleheader sweep of the Bats. The Shockers' Jeff Cherry threw a 5-inning shutout, striking out 6 in game 1, and added two doubles and 5 RBIs with his bat. Jack Millard provided additional support for the Shockers with four hits, including two doubles and a triple, 5 runs scored, and 5 RBIs.
The Redlegs and Tigers were hunkered down in a pitcher's duel with the Redlegs leading 3-1 before the lightning delay ruined the rest of the game. This game will be completed on June 19th after the originally scheduled game at Preble Shawnee.
Whereas the lightning ruined the Tigers first game, the Thunder ruined game two for the Tigers. The Thunder beat the Tigers 15-5.
Down at Monroe, the Mariners cooled off the surging Blue Jays with a 12-1 decision. Chris Ranstead belted his fourth HR of the season and MVABL career HR leader Gregg Foster also got into the longball act. Waiver wire acquisition Dan Comes tossed five effective innings in the Mariners' victory.
Out at Springfield Northwestern, the Indians were overcome by two late Royals rallies, as the Boys in Blue nailed down a pair of comeback wins. Royals' top draft pick Sam Cerreta homered for the second time this year.
And over in Bellbrook, the Rangers and Slammers split a DH with the Rangers overcoming an 8-0 first inning deficit to win game one 15-10, and a dominant pitching performance from Slammers' pitcher Tyler Hogan to win game two 9-3. Rick Anderson belted a grand slam in the first game and fell 2 feet shy of another grand slam in game 2. Rangers' first baseman Joe Staten homered twice and had six hits, and Ben Schubert hit a grand slam. Shawn Schmitt of the Rangers, and Chris Copeland and Justin Dunlap of the Slammer also went deep on the afternoon.
