Rangers Turn Back the Clock, Beat Redlegs 12-3

The Rangers busted out the 1996 retro blue jerseys and got a little payback for their previous loss to the Redlegs, using a 6-run and a 5-run inning to knock off the Camden club 12-3 on Sunday, May 23rd at AIA.

The Rangers opened up a five-spot in the top of the second inning. Jonathan Silverman led off with a single to left. After Joe Staten walked, Jonmarc Lippincott singled to left-center to score Silverman. James followed suit with a single to center scoring Staten, giving Joe his 100th career run scored. Jelani Arnold then singled to score Lippincott. Shane Fallen’s fielder’s choice plated Robinson. Steve Marshall walked to put runners on first and second. Then Ben Schooler roped a 2-run triple to right center to make it a 6-0 score. Newly acquired off the league’s Waiting List, Zach Clendenden made an immediate impact for the Redlegs with a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Rangers lead to 6-2.

Clint Wolf launched his second home run of the season to deep left center field to make it a 7-2 ballgame. This marked Clint’s 30th career league home run. The Rangers then put together another rally in the top of the sixth inning, scoring five times to make it a 12-2 score. Lippincott had another RBI single. Schooler was hit with the bases loaded to score another. And Clint Wolf smoked a bases-clearing triple to right field with two outs to end the scoring.

Rangers starter Jonathan Silverman gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth as a Redlegs runner scored on a throwing error that would have ended the inning. Shawn Schmitt pitched a hitless 7th and 8th inning. And Joe Becker added a hitless ninth to round out the afternoon’s pitching line. Silverman improves to 3-1 on the season.
