Rangers Scalped by Indians, 17-9

The Rangers continued to not find an answer for the Indians talented lineup. Brad Clark started for the Rangers but failed to get out of the fifth inning for the second time against the Tribe. Jeremy Lippincott and Matt Hood tried to help and snuff out the Indians attack, but to no avail. The Indians called up Matt Spradlin from their farm system to make the start on Sunday and was effective through five innings only allowing three runs.

The Indians got on the board first in the third inning with the help of a three-run bomb by 2006 rookie of the year Joey Herren. The Rangers answered in the bottom of the inning as Clint Wolf’s 600 foot blast to centerfield fell short as centerfielder Josh Wick crashed into the fence allowing Wolf to triple, scoring Joe Staten from first base. The Indians put up 11 more runs over the next four innings highlighted by a home run by Danny Colella. The Rangers scored four times in the sixth off of four walks and twice more in the seventh off of three free passes to cut the deficit to 14-9. But the Indians sent Joey Herren to the hill in the final two frames and the Rangers could only muster a pair of walks and no runs.

Offensive Notes: Reis Pearson doubled twice, giving him 5 doubles on the afternoon. Pearson and Wolf each had three hits. Wolf added three RBIs. Wolf stole two more bases, giving him 8 so far on the season.
