5/20/11: WEEK 6 - WHO'S HOT?

WHO'S HOT?
Heading into Week 6

#1 - Camden Redlegs
The Redlegs (4-1) vault themselves into the top spot in the rankings for the first time this season. The Redlegs have shown themselves to be able to score a bunch of runs and wreak havoc on the basepaths. The Camden club knocked off the previously undefeated Indians in a doubleheader sweep on May 15 at Northwestern H.S. Coach Jacob Robinson, leading the team in runs, HR, RBI, and OBP, was on base 8 of 9 times last week and launched his first career grand slam. The Redlegs have had to battle each week against someone in the Who's Hot Top 5 list. This week, they get a slight reprieve by taking on a deceptive Dayton Tigers squad. Don't let the Tigers' record fool you! They've got one of the top rookies in the league in Ajay Houston, and if there defense holds up, they could give this new No. 1 a run for their money.
#2 - SD Slammers
The Slammers reamin at No. 2 with a washout last weekend. The Slammers get tested by the Rangers this weekend in a DH tilt at Bellbrook. The Slammers lineup is stacked from top to bottom and should be a good afternoon of baseball, if Mother Nature cooperates.
#3 - Dayton Blue Jays
The Blue Jays (3-2) have won three straight games. Pitcher Will Howard anchors the pitching staff and has won in his last two outings, including 8 innings of relief last Sunday against the Shockers. Despite a 7-0 deficit in the first inning, the Blue Jays battled back with the bat of Brian Bay, who continues his torrid start to 2011 with four more hits and four RBIs. The Jays meet up with the Ohio Mariners this weekend at Miami University of Middletown's field in Monroe for a double-dip.
#4 - Dayton Rangers
The Rangers (4-1) move back up the chart this week after an impressive come-from-behind victory over the Athletics. The Rangers also fell behind 7-0 early before mounting a comeback. Ben Schubert belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. And a bases-loaded walk in extra innings led to the win. The Rangers/Slammers matchup is the only game this week featuring teams in the Top 5. The two teams split last years' games, but the Rangers have won six of the last 8 meetings, including the 2009 championship series.
#5 - Kettering Royals
The Royals remain 3-1, but drop in the standings due to two straight losses to Mother Nature. The Boys in Blue have had enough to rest and are anxious to get back on the field. This week is no easy task as the Royals travel to Northwestern to face a revamped Indians team in a DH. The Royals still hold the edge in the overall series winning 13 of 18 contests, including a 6-2 mark at Northwestern.
