Rangers Defeat Astros 10-3
The
Dayton Rangers used an 8-run fifth inning to knock off the Dayton Astros 10-3 on
Sunday, June 14 at West Carrollton high school.
Starting pitcher Brad Clark pitched seven strong innings, scattering six
hits and striking out seven to move to 4-2 on the year. Rookie Matt Wenzel
threw two scoreless innings of relief. Matt
Addis started for the ‘Stros and had the Rangers
number early on striking out 10 in the first four innings, including four K’s
in the fourth inning alone .
The Astros got on the board first in the top of the second. An errant
throw on a stolen base attempt allowed the first runner to score and Kyle Whitt’s
two-out single plated the second. The Rangers finally got on track in the
bottom of the fourth as Clint Wolf hit a two-run home
run to center field to tie the game at 2-2. The Rangers opened the floodgates in
the fifth. Brad Clark led off with a walk. Jelani
Arnold and Shane Fallen followed with singles to load the bases. Jared Bradley then singled to right field to
drive in the go-ahead runs. A walk to Jacob Robinson loaded the bases again. Jonmarc Lippincott then walked to make the score 5-2. Addis
was relieved by Gregg Foster who promptly gave up a two-run single to Clint
Wolf to give the Rangers a 7-2 lead. A wild pitch made the score 8-2. Brandon
Howard’s fielder’s choice made it 9-2, but in the process, the Rangers lost
center fielder Clint Wolf to a knee injury on a play at the plate. A subsequent
throwing error made it 10-2. The Astros final run came on a home run to right
by rookie Phil Crisp.
Offensive highlights: Clint Wolf 2-for-3, 2 runs, 4RBI, HR; Jared
Bradley 1-for-3 2RBI; Jacob Robinson 1-for-2, 2 runs, 2 walks.
