Rangers Muster DH Split with Angels

The Dayton Rangers managed to split a pair of divisional games with the Dayton Angels on Sunday, losing the first game 4-3 and winning the nightcap 10-5.

Jeremy Lippincott took the mound to start game 1 and was effective through four innings allowing 1 hit and 1 walk in that time. However, the Rangers coach did not pull the trigger quick enough to provide Lippincott with the needed relief support as Jeremy walked three and gave up a pair of hits in the fifth to give the Angels a 4-2 lead. Brad Clark pitched the final inning for the Rangers getting the Halos to ground out on four pitches.

The Rangers’ scoring came in the second, third, and seventh innings. Jelani Arnold doubled to lead off the second and eventually scored on a throwing error by the third baseman. Clint Wolf doubled in the next inning and scored on groundball off the bat of Scott Sundermeyer. The Rangers had a chance to win it in the 7th as Jacob Robinson singled with one out and moved over to the third after a fielder’s choice. But Jonmarc Lippincott was unable to get the job done as a hard ground ball to third ended the inning and the game.

As the Rangers fell 4-3 in game one, the Rangers found themselves down by the same score after one inning in game 2. The Angels’ Chris Rock blasted a 2-run homerun to center to cap the scoring for the Angels in the first. Brad Clark started for the Rangers and gave up 5 of his 8 hits in the first inning before settling down 13 of the final 14 batters of the game. Clark (2-0) struck out five and walked one in pitching the complete game.

Jacob Robinson was 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs in game 2, following a 2-for-3 performance in the first game. Clint Wolf had five hits on the day including a pair of doubles and a triple. The Rangers stole 7 bases in game 2, including three by second baseman Jared Bradley.
