Rangers Gunned Down by
Outlaws
The Rangers fell to 3-5 in the MVABL
this year, losing to the Kettering Outlaws by a score of 8-2.
Clint Wolf made his 2005 pitching debut on Sunday
and was sharp at some points and wild on others. Despite striking out 7
Outlaws, Wolf walked 5. But he didn’t get much defensive support early on as
well. After a misplayed fly ball and a throwing error by the shortstop, the
Rangers dug themselves an early 4-0 hole. The hole got deeper in the 6th
as 3 Outlaws runners were plated on wild pitches. The Outlaws tacked on another
run in the 8th to give them an 8-0 lead.
At one point, the Outlaws’ Kevin Ashworth retired
12 straight Rangers batters going in to the 9th inning. The Rangers
spoiled the shutout attempt by scoring twice in the bottom of the ninth.
Jonmarc Lippincott led off with his 2nd double of the game, went to
third on Clint Wolf’s groundball, which the 3rd basemen threw past
first base, and scored on a Dave Roemerman sacrifice
fly to right field. Brent Collinsworth followed up
with an RBI single to score Wolf.
Matt Hood relieved Wolf on the mound to pitch an
effective 3 innings, allowing only 1 run. Hood also contributed with a double
and single at the plate.
