Wolf Goes Deep Twice, Rangers Win

Centerfielder Clint Wolf launched two homeruns to straightaway center to provide enough cushion for the visiting Rangers who defeated the Angels 14-6 on Tuesday night. Wolf hit a two-run shot in the 4th and added a three-run blast in the 5th to cap a 3-for-5 performance. Clint also scored four times.

Jeremy Lippincott started for the Rangers and picked up his second win of the season, first “W” in the MVABL. Lippincott scattered 12 hits in 5 innings but worked out of jams in leaving seven Halos players stranded on base. His mound counterpart, Scott Falkowski did not fare too well in his second outing against the Rangers. Falkowski baffled Rangers batters in their first encounter, a 4-3 win for the Angels. However, the Rangers jumped on the veteran lefty in the first inning.

Jeremy Lippincott, Brent Collinsworth, and Jared Bradley each had RBI singles in the top of the first to take a quick 3-0 lead. Angels’ catcher Chris Rock grounded out to short to drive in Phil Leppla to cut the lead to 3-1 after one. The Rangers scored two in the 3rd on a two-run double by Collinsworth. Collinsworth, mired in a 1-for-17 start to the season has reached base now 8 of his last 9 plate appearances. The Angels scored their second run in the bottom of the third when a Reindel doubled plated Leppla.

The Rangers broke open the game in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring their final nine runs of the game. Besides Wolf’s two homeruns in those innings, Jelani Arnold, Jonmarc Lippincott, and Bradley drove in the other runs.

Jelani Arnold relieved Jeremy in the sixth and gave up only two hits in shutting down the Angels in the final two innings.

Lippincott and Arnold were unable to stop Angels’ left fielder Phil Leppla who went 5-for-5 on the night including a double and three runs scored. Ryan Reindel added three hits including a double, and leadoff hitter Sean Shumaker contributed a two-run homerun as well.

Offensive performances: Jelani Arnold (3-for-5, 3 runs, RBI), Jonmarc Lippincott (2-for-5, double, 2 runs, RBI), Clint Wolf (3-for-5, 2 HR, 4 runs, 5 RBIs, SB), Jeremy Lippincott (2-for-5, double, 2 runs, RBI), Brent Collinsworth (3-for-3, double, walk, 3 RBIs), Jared Bradley (2-for-4, 2RBIs, SB).
