Casey and Slammers Stifle
Rangers
What
continued to be a wet week for the Rangers, the weather (and the opposition) soiled
all chances for a ‘W’ against the South Dayton Slammers on Tuesday, July 20 at
Action Sports Center.
The
Rangers’ Joe Becker went up against fellow rookie Sean Casey of the Slammers.
Joe gave up a run in the top of the first to give the Slammers an early lead. Jonmarc Lippincott doubled, and Ty Adams and James Robinson
worked walks to load the bases in the bottom of the first, but Casey was able
to work through the mess with three strikeouts to spoil any attempt at a run
for the Rangers. Both teams went scoreless in the second, before the Slammers
plated 3 in the top of the third, highlighted by a Justin Dunlap triple to
right. The Rangers got on the board in the bottom of the third as Ty Adams
scorched a laser beam home run to left center to cut the Slammers lead to 4-1.
Both teams couldn’t score in the fourth or fifth inning. As the rain slowly
made its way to the diamond, the Slammers would bat around, and because of the
lengthy hit parade, the rain-soaked field did not allow for the Rangers to get
their chance in the bottom half of the sixth inning. With the game official
after 5 innings, and no additional make up days available, the game was called,
with the final score of 4-1.
Offensive
highlights:
Ty Adams 1-2, HR, RBI; Jonmarc Lippincott 1-for-3,
double.
Historical
Notes:
Clint saw his hitting streak halted at 22 games (2nd best in team history).
Jonmarc is 2 RBI shy of 300 RBIs in the league. Jelani
is 1 run shy of 100 runs scored in the league. Shawn is 1 win away from passing
Rob Hoover for the most wins in Rangers history.
