Rangers Stranded, Lose in Extras

For the second straight game against the Dayton Attack Mules, the two teams battled it out for over four hours. But the outcome was still the same as the Rangers fell to the Mules 7-5 in 15 long, grueling innings.

The Rangers, who picked up their first loss of the season after beginning the game with the lead, scored four runs in the bottom of the second off of Mules starter Steve Fryman. Jared Bradley singled in Jeremy Lippincott for the first run of the inning. Scott Sundermeyer followed with a sacrifice fly to right to score Jeremy Cunningham. Bradley scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0. After a single by Jelani Arnold, Joe Staten doubled to plate the fourth run.

Fryman was pulled after two in favor of Josh Kirkland. Kirkland was outstanding as he retired 15 of the 16 batters he faced allowing only a walk to Jonmarc Lippincott in the sixth. The Attack Mules turned to Damon Barr for the rest of the way.

The score stood 5-5 until the 11th inning when the Attack Mules took a one-run lead after a pair of fielding errors and a two-out wild pitch. However, the Rangers tied the game back up in the bottom of the frame as Jonmarc Lippincott singled allowing Aaron Armstrong to score from second base. The Rangers had a chance to win the game in five of the final eight innings of play, but still fell short of the big hit.

The game finally ended in the top of the 15th as Barr helped himself at the plate by doubling in two runs with two outs.

Jacob Robinson started the game for the Rangers and was effective through 5 innings allowing 3 runs, 1 earned and struck out 5. Jeremy Lippincott followed for 1 1/3 innings giving up a run on two hits. Brad Clark went the distance in relief, going 8 2/3 innings, scattering 5 hits.

Offensive performances: Dave Roemerman (2-for-5, SB), Jared Bradley (2-for-6, run, RBI), Joe Staten (2B, RBI).
