Rangers Ride Robinson to Victory
For the second straight game, the
Rangers were helped by the Knights’ inability to keep 9 guys on the field at
the end of the game. Last Sunday the Rangers were able to score 9 times in
their last at-bats after a Knights’ player was ejected. This time, the Rangers
were able to score 4 times in their final at-bat following another Knights’
ejection to come from behind and win 8-5.
Jacob Robinson probably had his best outing on the
mound this season going the distance and picking up 9 strikeouts with 0 walks
and 2 earned runs given up. Jacob is now 4-2 on the season (4-1 in the MVABL).
The Rangers took an early 2-0 lead when Scott
Sundermeyer led off the 2nd inning with a triple and scored on a
Matt Hood base hit. Aaron Armstrong knocked in the second run with a base hit
to left. The Rangers added one more in the 4th inning after James
Robinson singled to center, and after the ball eluded the Knights’
centerfielder, Jacob Robinson was able to plate the 3rd run of the
game.
Robinson ran into trouble in the 5th.
After striking out the leadoff batter, he gave up a base hit. But Rangers’
shortstop Jonmarc Lippincott bobbled a would-be double play ball and kept the
inning alive. After a wild pitch plated a run, Matt Netherly blasted a 2-run
shot to center to tie the ballgame up at 3-3. The Knights kept the momentum and
took the lead in the 7th. After a leadoff double, Netherly drove in
another run with a hit and Chad Jaynes followed with an RBI single of his own.
The Rangers continued to
chip away at the lead in the bottom half of the 7th inning. Brian
Robinson singled and came around to score on a bloop single off the bat of
Clint Wolf. A questionable call in the top of the 8th prompted the
ejection of the Knights’ centerfielder, leaving the opponents with 8 players to
end the game for the second straight affair. Sundermeyer and Hood started the 8th
inning with singles. After an infield error to load the bases, Aaron Armstrong
singled for the second time to drive in the tying and go-ahead runs. Brian
Robinson added insurance to the win by doubling home two more.
Aaron Armstrong went 2-4
with 3 RBI. Clint Wolf had 3 hits and 1 RBI. Brian Robinson, Sundermeyer, Hood,
and Jacob Robinson each had 2 hits.
