8/1/11: July 24-31 Recaps
JULY 26 RECAPS
Late night heroics at Action Sports
If you didn't venture out on your night off to watch some MVABL action, then shame on you. Action Sports Center was home to two extra inning games, and two walk-off victories.
First off, the Redlegs and Slammers didn't need 58 runs like they put forth on July 10th. Rather, both sides played to a 3-3 tie in regulation, as the Camden tandem of Kevin Campbell and Brad Clark stood toe-to-toe with the Slammers' new-found ace Jared Wagoner. But Clark's one mistake came to the first batter in the bottom of the 8th inning as Justin Dunlap deposited a walk-off home run to send the Slammers home in victory. Wagoner tossed all 8 innings, striking out 13 to improve to 2-0. Brandon Howard homered in the loss for the Redlegs.
On the opposite diamond, the Cardinals and Mariners were neck-and-neck as well, but this one couldn't be settled in regulation either. Instead, these two teams decided that 12 innings were needed to find a victor. Mariners' Matt Klaus struck out 19 in 11 innings of work, including 8 straight at one point. Chris Ranstead launched his 8th HR of the season in the top of the 12th to give the club a 1-run lead. But, the lead was short-lived, as for the second time this season, Cardinals' Casey Fannin punched in a 2-run walk-off single to give the Cards a 6-5 win.
Over at Rotary Park, the Rangers squeaked past the Sox 12-8. The Rangers were down 4-2 through 5 innings, but scored 5 runs in each of the 6th and 7th innings to defeat the Sox in a night game for the first time since June 2007. Shawn Schmitt picked up his 8th win of the season. Ben Schubert, Jonmarc Lippincott, and Jelani Arnold all had 3 hits for the Rangers. Wes Rehmert, Phil Kosier, and Chris Bruckman each had a triple and two hits for the Sox.

JULY 28 RECAPS
Went to Kettering for some baseball and a football game broke out
Yes, it's difficult to comprehend, but the Indians did beat the Bats 37-19 at Kettering Fields on Thursday night. This may be a new league record, as the highest runs scored tally on record is 32 put up by the Rangers against the Rockies in 1998.
The Mariners made it consecutive weeknight extra-inning affairs. This time the Mariners came out on the winning end as PJ Dobbins singled home the game-winner in the bottom of the 8th inning to defeat the Shockers 6-5. Dan Comes went all 8 innings for the Mariners and struck out 10.
The Sox got payback against the Rangers on Thursday night winning 9-4, after falling to the Rangers 12-8 two days prior. Zane Bayless was sharp on the mound for the Sox, allowing 3 hits and 3 unearned runs in 5 innings of work, striking out 3. Wes Rehmert had 3 hits and Kyle Karadak had 2 hits and 2 RBIs for the Sox.

Royals rookie Santel Grant tossed a no-hitter on Saturday, July 30 in the first game of a DH against the Tigers. This was the third no-hitter of the MVABL season, following up a combined effort by the Slammers over the Tigers, and Matt Spradlin's no-no against the Thunder.
