Adams Goes Out With a Bang in 17-1 Win

On a Tuesday night at Action Sports Center, the Rangers knocked off the Dayton Astros 17-1. Rookie pickup Ty Adams ended his short stint with the Rangers by depositing his 6th longball of the season in 10 games. The Rangers wish Ty the best of luck as he returns to school for his senior season at Notre Dame.

The game started out well for both pitchers as Rangers starter Joe Becker and Astros pickup Dan Branham locked horns for two scoreless frames. The Rangers, however, were able to get to Branham in the fourth, putting together a two-out rally and a 4-0 lead. Joe Staten doubled and scored on Adams’ single. After Adams stole second, Robert plated him with an RBI double. After James Robinson walked, Jonmarc doubled in Riley and Robinson for his 300th career RBI in league play.

The Rangers tacked on six more runs in the fourth inning. Ben Schooler singled and stole second. Shawn Schmitt singled him home. Aaron followed with a single. Clint Wolf’s groundout to second scored Schmitt. Then with two outs again the meat of the order delivered again. Staten had an RBI single before Ty Adams homered to deep left center field. Riley then reached on an error. James singled. Jonmarc blooped an RBI single to right to give the Rangers a 10-0 lead.  The Astros got on the board in the fourth as PJ Dobbins reached on an error and scored on a groundout.

Shawn Schmitt doubled in two runs in the fifth to give the Rangers a 12-1 lead. Becker gave up his first two hits of the game in the fifth inning but got out of trouble, getting Tony Duncan to ground out to short to end the inning. Joe Staten doubled to lead off the sixth inning. Riley and Robinson were each hit to load the bases. Jelani Arnold worked a bases loaded walk to plate a run. Ben Schooler then cleared the bases with a 3-run triple to centerfield. Schmitt would finish off the score with his fourth RBI of the night with a single to score Schooler. Joe Staten worked a scoreless 6th inning to preserve the run-rule victory.

Joe Becker pitched 5 innings improving his record to 3-2 on the year. Becker surrendered two hits and 2 walks and struck out 3.
