Rangers Shutout
The Beavercreek Sox defeated the
Rangers 3-0 on Sunday night. A great pitcher’s duel between the
Sox’ Marcum and the Rangers’ Matt Hood. Hood held the Sox offense in check most of the game. Hood had a no-hitter going into the
6th inning until Jeremey Fruhwirth singled with two outs to drive in the first Sox
run of the day. The Sox tallied two more runs in their final at-bat to round
out the scoring.
The Sox’ starting pitcher struck out 13 batters
through 8 innings before Phil Kosier came on in the 9th
to record the save. The Rangers had their opportunities to score but constantly
left too many men stranded (10) throughout the game. Scott Sundermeyer
led of the second inning with a single, took 2nd on an errant
pickoff attempt and went to third on a groundout to first. But Sundermeyer was left on third after the next batters
grounded out to the pitcher and struck out. The Rangers had another opportunity
to plate some runs in the 6th. With one out and runners on 1st
and 2nd, Marcum got the next two batters on a strikeout and
groundout. Poor baserunning in the 9th
ended the game with the potential for a bases-loaded 2-out situation.
Aaron Armstrong was the
only Rangers player with multiple hits.
