Rangers Win Series from
Angels
The last time the Rangers won a one-run
ballgame was against the same Dayton Angels squad back in July. The Rangers continued to play another close
game and once again defeating the Angels by one run (2-1) on Tuesday night in a
game that featured some great clutch pitching and a lot of fly ball outs….and a
free concert!! With Def Leppard and Bryan Adams
blaring through the night sky, one would have to wonder if the added noise was
the culprit to a lack of offensive production.
The Angels outhit the
Rangers 5-4 and there was only 1 extra base hit in the game. A solo homerun off
the bat of the Angels’ Greg Perkins was the lone run for the Halos.
The Rangers got on the
board in the first inning when Joe Staten led off the game with a base hit to
right. Brian Robinson followed with a single down the first base line moving
Staten to third. After Robinson stole second base, Jonmarc Lippincott roped a
3-1 pitch between shortstop and third base to drive in the only runs the
Rangers needed on the night.
The Rangers stopped
hitting after the first inning collecting only 1 more hit,
a single by Staten, in the 7th inning. The Rangers had their
opportunities to score more runs, but they left 8 total runners on base
throughout the evening. It didn’t help that the team only had 2 groundball outs
and 13 flyball outs.
Jacob Robinson was
outstanding on the mound once again, improving his record to 5-2 (5-1 in the
MVABL) and lowered his team-leading ERA to 3.88. Jacob scattered 5 hits over 7
innings and struck out 3 batters, including the last 2 to end the game.
