8/12/11: WEEK 18 - WHO'S HOT?

WHO'S HOT?
Heading into Week 18

#1 - Beavercreek Sox
The Sox (20-4) jump back into the top slot with wins over 2 of the top teams in the league: Royals and Cardinals. The Sox get back to the 20-win plateau after falling short of that total the last two seasons. Jon Venters continues his Cy Young-caliber season with a 12-K performance over the Redbirds last Wednesday. The Sox attempt to wrap up the Buckeye Divisional crown this Sunday with a twinbill against the Springfield Indians at Carleton Davidson.
#2 - SD Slammers
The Slammers (18-6) become the frontrunner for the top playoff seed in the Buckeye Division with a forfeit victory over the Indians and a split with the Cardinals. The Slammers play two games against the Bats on Saturday at Bellbrook HS and then travel to Fairborn to take on the Athletics on Tuesday night.

#3 - Ohio Mariners
The Mariners (14-8) have won four straight games including both matchups with the Tigers last week. The M's still need some help, but they aren't totally out of the race for the top Buckeye seed just yet. The Mariners take on the Athletics and Shockers this week in hopes to bolster their playoff standing.
#4 - Miami Valley Cardinals
The Cardinals (15-6) scored 3 runs in their final at-bat to beat the Slammers 3-2, but lost to both the Slammers and Mother Nature in game 2. The Cards fell to the Sox last Thursday, and look to get back on track with a pair of games against the Shockers on Sunday.

#5 - Kettering Royals
The Kettering Royals (12-9) played the Sox tough, losing in extra innings 8-5. The Royals held a lead in game 2 of the DH, but monsoon season started early and foiled the potential for a 'W'. The Royals play a key divisional doubleheader against the Rangers on Sunday at Oak Grove Park. Wins could be crucial to earning a playoff bye.
