Playoff Recap for Tuesday Aug 24, 2004:

"Royals Gun Down Outlaws 10-3"
Player of the game: Neil Lynch - Royals
Royals - In the much anticipated do or die game with the Outlaws, the Royals stepped onto the field with their Bengal-like 4-17 Regular season record behind them. Long-Armed Lynch took the mound for Royals to lead his troops to victory. The game moved quickly through the first 5 innings as Lynch and Turton (Outlaws) continued to mow down hitters one after the other. Entering the sixth inning down 3-1, the flood gates opened, but this time in favor of the Royals. In an inning where the Royals sent 8 of their 9 batters to the plate, they were able to score 5 to take the 6-3 lead. That was all Lynch needed to close the door. Over the next 4 innings, Lynch only faced 14 batters allowing only 2 runners to reach base on error. Feeding off Lynch's performance the Royal offense finally gave their pitcher some run support scoring another 4 runs in the final 3 innings. The defense looked sharp and crisp with only 2 errors on the game. Schwab ended the game with an "Ozzie Smith" style stab and throw on a sharply hit ball up the middle. At the plate everyone did their part to help the team to the much needed victory. As well as his complete game (9 innings, 8 K's, 3 BB, 3 runs) on the mound, Lynch went 3-4 (1 run, 2B, sac, 2 RBI). Nine of the Royals 11 batters recorded 1 or more hits. Other key performers Anders 2-4 (run, 2 2B, sac, K, 2 RBI), Franklin 3-5, and just back from his Honeymoon TJ "Mule" Conley delivered going 2-2 (run, 2B, 2 RBI).

Game Recap for Tuesday Aug 17, 2004:

"Bargo's Defeat Angels 10-9"
Player of the game: TJ Miller/Adam Stewart - Angels
This see-saw game went down to the last inning for these two teams. Angels scored 2 in the first only to be answered by 6 unearned runs in the third by the Bargo's. Angels tacked on 2 from a 2-run bomb by TJ Miller only to have Bargo's answer in the bottom of the fifth to make it 8-4. Angels chipped away with 2 more in the sixth and 3 in the seventh to go up 9-8 with the Bargo's scoring 2 to win it. Bob Overbeek pitched well for the Angels going the distance 7ip,10r,4er,5so,4bb. Offense for the Halos: Adam Stewart 4-4 1d,1t,2rbi,2r,2sb. TJ Miller 2-4 1hr,3rbi,1sb. Greg Stallard 3-4 2d,1rbi,3r. Overbeek 1-4 1d,1r. Carter and Newlen (1r) both went 2-4.

Game Recaps for Tuesday Aug 10, 2004:

"Angels defeat Royals 10-4"
Player of the game: none submitted
Royals - Royals were able to string together a few runs in the first off the Angels' 1st 2 pitchers, but then Christian, in Don Gullet style, made a move to his pen to bring in the relief. Over the final 6 innings the Royals' bats were silenced as the Angels climbed back little by little on hits just out of the reach of the Royals fielders until they put the game out of reach scoring 5 in the bottom of the sixth, which was enough as the game ended 10-4 Angels.

Game Recaps for Thursday Aug 6, 2004:

"Rangers Pull Out Win Over Royals 5-4"
Player of the game: David Franklin - Royals/Ethan Goetz,Matt Hood - Rangers
Royals - The Royals took the field Thursday night looking to pick-up another W and put together a winning streak. However it wasn't meant to be. After piecing together 14 hits on Sunday Royals bats could only pound out 4 against the Rangers pitchers. Aside from the loss the Royals' defense is starting to make some plays to keep the team right there. Royals' started David Franklin went the distance allowing 5 runs (3 ER, 2 K, 2 BB). It was a well pitched game that kept the Rangers down, but they were able to cash in on the few Royals' errors. Offensively at the plate Runyon, Errett, and Campbell combined to record for the Royals 4 hits. Very respectable game by both teams.
Rangers - Rangers starter John Kriner held the Royals in check through his first five innings of work giving up only 2 hits on 2 unearned runs. But a 3-2 lead evaporated in the 6th, when Kriner gave up 2 hits and 2 walks to the first 4 batters in the inning to tie the ballgame. Despite striking out the next two batters, the go-ahead run scored on an error. The Rangers mounted their comeback in the bottom of the seventh with the help of some Royals fielding miscues. Matt Hood drew a one-out walk. Aaron Armstrong reached on a throwing error. Brian Robinson hit a sacrifice fly to score Hood. Then All-Star Ethan Goetz drove the game-winning hit down the third baseline. Ethan had the only multi-hit game for the Rangers; Ron Runyon was the same for Royals. Kriner got the hard luck no-decision going 6 innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 walks, 2 earned runs, and struck out 5. Matt Sparks pitched a 1-2-3 seventh for his 2nd win of the season.

Game Recaps for Sunday August 1, 2004:

"Royals Come From Behind and Defeat Sox 17-9"
Player of the game: Eric Jameson - Royals
After Thursday night's 1 hour 45 minute sprint game, the Royals lined up at the starting line of the Boston marathon Sunday night. However, when the Royals entered the clubhouse Sunday night they had a new mindset... Everyone wanted to pull out the victory and would help in whatever way the team needed. The Royals new look started with their middle infield pair moved to the left side of the diamond, Dean and Schwab moved over to help solidify the infield. However the Sox were not frightened by the new look and pounded out 5 runs in over the first three innings. Down 5-0 entering the top of the fourth, the Royals narrowed the Sox lead scoring 3 after a sac fly and a pair of singles plated 3. Jameson, who started for the Royals then set the Sox hitters down 1, 2, 3 to get the Royals sticks back to the plate. Jameson then helped his own cause plating 2 on a double to tie the game at 5. Pumped he got his team right back into it, James then set more Sox hitters down in order (sort of 1, HBP, 2, 3). These quick innings gave the Royals much needed life when they proceeded to send 11 batters to the plate scoring 7 to take the lead 12-5. Running on pure adrenaline, Jameson got the Sox out in order again. In the top of the seventh, Chad Campbell plated 2 on his second hit of the night pushing the Royals lead up to 14-5. In the seventh Jameson walked a pair that later scored, but then he made a quick, cat-like move off the mound to snag a hard grounder for the assist to end the inning. In the top of the eighth, the Royals hitters slowed a bit from fatigue and were silenced by the Sox pitcher. In the bottom of the eighth, Chad Daniel speared a sharp liner at first to get the first out, but then Jameson began to suffer from control problems. After walking the base loaded and then walking in a run, the Field General made a call to his platoon to bring in the Major. Tim "Major" Payne came in with 1 out and the bases juiced and got 2 straight K's to end the inning. In the top of the ninth the Royals hitters added 3 off hits from Runyon and Jameson. Entering the bottom of the ninth up 17-8, Payne looked to close the door on the Royals first win in 8 games. After 2 quick grouhdouts to third, the Sox added 1 more before "Big Chad" Daniel ended the game spearing another sharp liner.
In the game the Royals defense showed new life, and backed it up scoring runs at the plate. Offensively for the Royals, Ron Runyon may have set a new unofficial Royals record going 5-6 (1 3B, 4 runs, 2 RBI). Jameson also helped recording 5 RBI's, and after his recent trip to the batting cage and tips from Big Ron, Campbell went 2-2 (2 runs, 1 HBP, 3 RBI).

"Bargos Shutdown Astros in 7-2 defeat"
Player of the game: Bryan Braswell - Bargo's
Brian Braswell pitched a gem against the Stros on Sunday Afternoon. Braswell pitched 7 innings allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 11 batters. Braswell also led the Bargos offensive attack going 2 for 4 with a Homerun and 2 runs scored. Mike Leach was dealt his first loss of the season pitching 5 innings while allowing 4 earned runs.

Game Recaps for Sunday July 25, 2004:

"Astros Defeat Rangers 13-8"
Player of the game: Brian Girard - Astros
The Astros came out swinging against the Rangers Sunday putting up 4 runs in the top of the 1st led by Lar Schulte's 2-RBI Single. The Rangers scored 1 of their own in the bottom of the first to make the score 4-1. Strong pitching from Astros starter Brian Girard and solid Astros hitting led to a 13-5 lead through 8, highlighted by a Homerun by Steve Louis clearing the 400 foot sign in right-center. But the Rangers battled back in the 9th to make this one interesting. After 4 runs and a line drive to the dome knocked Brian Girard from the game, Mike Leach came in with the bases loaded. Leach induced a ground ball to third to close the door and preserve a 13-8 win for the Astros. Brian Girard worked 8-2/3 on the mound to pick up his team high 3rd win of the season. Steve Louis led the offense going 4 for 5 with a homerun and 2 RBIs. Mike Leach went 3 for 4 and scored 3 runs; Lar Schulte, Jeremy Campbell, Brian Girard, Vince Terek and Tony Walters all had 2 hits on the day.
Jake Kingsolver, Courtney Parks, Shawn Schmitt, and Joe Staten each had 2 hits for the Rangers. Parks, Kingsolver, Staten, and Scott Sundermeyer each had doubles.

"Sox Sweep Royals 17-11, 10-8"
Players of the game: Rooker/Runyon - Royals
Game 1 started off bad as the Royals fell into a hole early. Down 5 after 1 on only 2 hits, the Royals had their work cut out for them. After a few hits the Royals were able to score a pair and shave the lead to 3. But that was as close as the Royals would come, because all but one of the remaining innings the Royals scored in, the Sox would match + 1 to stay just out of reach. Unfortunately the Royals let the Sox escape when they failed to post any runs in the 6th. With the help of some errant pitching in the bottom of the seventh and a few singles, the Royals did mange to score a handful of runs, and finish the game 17-11. Mental mistakes and errors prove once again to be the Royal's worst enemy. Offensively the Royals were able to record 5 extra base hits (3 2B & 2 3B), but were led by Rooker (2-3/1 run/1 BB/2 RBI) and Lynch (2-3/1 2B/1 SB/1 BB/ 1 RBI).
Game 2 once again saw the Royals fall into a hole early on 2 errors in the first that led to the Sox 3 runs, which proved to be the difference. The Royals bats woke up from their slumber to hammer out 7 extra base hits in the game (3 2B & 4 3B). The Royals tallied 4 triples in the game, 3 hit in the air to the deepest part of the park (dang MLB dimensions). Credit to the Sox, in the first 2 innings they battled back to only allow 1 run after the Royals loaded the bases twice. Down 8-1 after 2, the Royals began their fight. After a triple and a walk Lynch drove in a pair off a double to left center. Then in the fifth the Royals scored their 4th run of the game after a pair of triples from Rooker and Runyon. Down 10-5 going into the seventh the Royals sent 9 of their 12 hitters to the plate. Off 3 straight hits from Franklin/Rooker/& Runyon they were able to plate 3 to cut the Sox lead to 2, but the Sox fielded a hard hit grounder to finish the Royals off. The game ended Royals down 8-10. Offensively the Royals own Bash Brothers (Rooker & Runyon) combined to go 5-5/4 runs/1 2B/3 3B/3 BB/3 RBI. Individually, Rooker hit 3-3/3 runs/1 2B/2 3B/1 BB/ 1 RBI/ and Runyon went 2-2/1 run/1 3B/2 BB/2 RBIs/.

"Woodpeckers Sneak Past Angels, Win 5-0 in Extras, 2-1 in Nightcap"
Players of the game: Josh Thomas/Matt Klaus - Woodpeckers, Greg Stallard/Bob Overbeek - Angels
Angels - Both teams showed off their pitching on Sunday with starters going the whole way in both games. Neither team could do anything offensively until the Woodpeckers finally scrapped together 5 runs in the top of the tenth. Greg Stallard pitched a masterpiece for the Angels giving up only four hits over those ten innings. Alas, fatigue finally set in on the Angels as some wild pitches and mental and physical errors took place in the field that led to the five runs. The Angels had their chance in the third getting a runner on second and third with nobody out but the Woodpecker's starter Josh Thomas stepped up and got three straight outs to end the inning. The Angels would not get a runner past second base the rest of the game. The Angels only managed 3 hits and no walks in the 10 inning game. Hats off to pitcher Josh Thomas of the Woodpeckers for an amazing outing. Stat leaders for the game, Mark Roehl (1-3). Player of the Game goes to Greg Stallard (10 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 9 BB, 8 K).
Game Two continued the trend of quality pitching. Hopes were high for the Angels after the Angels got a leadoff single by Jeremy Cunningham but that would not be the trend for the game. The Angels only managed one more hit throughout the game, a double in the fourth by Adam Stewart plating Bob Overbeek for the Angels only run of the day. Bob Overbeek pitched well for Angels giving up only seven hits in the game. The Woodpeckers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a passed ball. The score was tied until the bottom of the seventh when back to back doubles brought home the game winner for the Woodpeckers. Matt Klaus of the Woodpeckers kept the Angels fooled all day getting 14 strikeouts in seven innings including nine straight strikes in inning five. Stat leaders for the game, Adam Stewart (1-3, 2B) and Jeremy Cunningham (1-2, BB). Player of the Game goes to Bob Overbeek (6 IP, 1 ER, 7 H, 3 BB, 6 K).

Game Recap for Tuesday July 20th, 2004:

"Angels Nip Sox 5-4"
Players of the game: Adam Stewart/Jeff Dillard/Jake Wiley - Angels
The Angels fresh off a split with Astros made it two wins in a row with a seesaw game against the Sox. Angels started off with one in the first only to be matched by the Sox in the top of second. The Angels took the lead once again in the bottom of the third to make it 2-1. The scored stayed that way til the top of the sixth when the Sox strung hits to push ahead 4-2. Angels starting a late rally as usual, came up in the bottom of the 7th down 2 runs. Pinch hitter Amadeaus "Armageddon" Carter came up with a lead off single followed by Jeremy Cunningham's first hit of the night. After an Eccles flyout to center, Bob Overbeek walked to set up buddy Jeff Dillard's sac fly to score one and advance the runners to make it 4-3. Adam Stewart, the hero of the past and goat of late, got a double to left to plate the two runs needed to secure the victory against the ever feisty and competitive young Sox. Jake Wiley 5ip,6h,4bb,1so,4er. Greg Stallard 2ip,1h,3k. Batting-wise, the Angels were led by Eccles 2-3 2s,1bb,2r, Overbeek 2-3 2s 1r 1bb 1sb, Dillard 1-2 1s 1hbp 1sac 2rbi, Stewart 1-4 1d 2rbi. Cunningham and Cory Jones both scored runs.

Game Recaps for Sunday July 18th, 2004:

"Angels split with Astros"
Players of the game: Adam Stewart/Jeff Dillard - Angels, Mike Leach/Gregg Foster - Astros
Angels - The Astros picked up 4 runs in the first and 7 runs in the fifth. If those innings could be thrown out then the Angels would have pitched a shutout. Since the Astros would not allow this, the Angels fell below 0.500 for a couple of hours. Walks haunted the Angels pitchers as they spread just seven singles and no extra base hits throughout the game. The Angels only had 5 hits in the first six innings and in typical Angels style, didn’t wake the bats up until the seventh. 5 runs in the seventh weren’t enough though as the Angels fall 11-8. Stat leaders for the game, Adam Stewart (3-4, 1 RS, 2 RBI, 3B, SB) Jeremy Cunningham (2-4, 2 RS).
Game Two saw the Angels move back to 0.500 in the standings. Control problems (some people say it was an iffy strike zone) plagued both teams as there were a total of 15 walks in the game. The game stayed close until the Angels finally pulled away in the sixth and seventh. The Astros pounded out 13 hits but left too many base runners early in the game. Stat leaders for the game, Jeff Dillard (3-4, 4 RBI, 2B), Joel Hall (1-1, 1 RS, 1 RBI, BB, HBP), and Bob Overbeek (3 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K).

Astros - Game 1: Astros Jumped out early scoring 4 in the first highlighted by a 2 run single by Lar Schulte. The Angels battled back scoring 1 in the second and 2 in the third to make it 4-3. The Stros then plated 7 runs in the 5th to make the score 11-3. The Angels made it interesting in the 7th scoring 5 runs, but the Astros held on behind a complete game from Mike Leach to win Game 1 11-8. Gregg Foster was 2 for 2 with 3 walks to lead the offense.
Game 2: Gregg Foster took the hill for the Stros in his first start of the season. The first inning Gregg worked his way out of trouble with a double play and no runs allowed. Mike Leach tripled in the bottom of the first and then scored on a single from Steve Louis to give the Stros an early 1-0 lead. But the Angels scored 5 runs in the second to end Gregg's 2004 Debut early and make the score 5-1. Mike Flanagan came on in relief and shut the Angels down in the 3rd while the Astros scored two on a bases loaded single by Rob Johnson to make the score 5-3. The Angels plated 2 in the fourth off Flanagan to make the score 7-3. But the Astros battled back once again scoring 3 in the 4th off hits from Mike Leach, Steve Louis and James Adkins. After Flanagan worked a perfect 5th he then hit a Sac Fly to center to score Jeremy Campbell to tie the game at 7-7. But the Angels wouldnt die as they scored 2 in the sixth and 4 in the 7th off Astros workhorse Tony Walters to win Game 2 13-7. Gregg Foster reached base all 9 times on the day going 3 for 3 with 6 walks, 4 runs and 5 stolen bases.

"Bargo's Defeat Royals 11-6"
Players of the game: Neil Lynch - Royals
Royals - The Royals took the field Sunday against the Bargo's/Heroes & Legends squad. Bargo's picked up some recent MVABL retirees to help close out their season. The game was a very competitive one, going back and forth, matching run for run until the fourth when Bargo's doubled the Royals' 2 runs after scoring 3 off a base clearing double by Josh Jaynes completing the inning. Bargos were up 6-4 at that point. The Royals' bats went silent for 2 innings until they managed to pick up another pair off a double to left-center from TJ Dean. 7-6 was as close to the Bargos as the Royals would get after another well timed double from John Forman scored another pair. The Royals entered the top of the ninth down 11-6, but after a single by Jameson, the Royals were sent down with 3 straight K's. On the hill, Royals starter Neil Lynch went 5 innings with 2 BB, 2 K's, 7 runs (4 er) in the loss. However, at the plate Lynch did his best to help his own cause going 3-4 (1 rs, 1 rbi, & 1 sb) leading the Royals squad. All other Royals hitters could only muster 1 hit a piece throughout the game.

Game Recaps for Tuesday July 13th, 2004:

"Bargo's defeat Angels 12-6"
Players of the game: Bryan Braswell - Bargo's/Adam Stewart - Angels
Angels - The muggy day started off on the bad side for the Halos when they knew they were going to be only 10 strong for the evening game. The game started off well for the Bargo's gang who found their offense against the young rookie Amadeaus Carter as they put 3 runs on the board in 3 of the first four innings. And that was all they needed, as the Bargo's Barmen had Bryan Braswell on the mound. Though hampered by a persistant leg strain, he went the distant striking out 10 Halos. The Halos got solid relief from Jeremy Cunningham who for 4 innings garnered 6ks of his own. Offensively, the Angels just ran out of time on their routine late wakeup call as their rally fell short. Adam Stewart went 3-4 with a deep 3run HR to left with 2r on the night and was the Angels' most potent weapon. Christian Imes chipped in going 2-2 with an rbi. Justin Newlan 1-4 (triple) , Kyle Krizman 1-2 (2walks and a double), and TJ miller 2-4 (2rbi,1r) were the offensive heroes. Pitching-wise, Amadeuas Carter (3ip 9er 1k 3bb 11h) and Jeremy Cunningham (4ip 5h 1bb 6k 3er).

Game Recaps for Sunday July 11th, 2004:

"Astros sweep Royals 10-4, 8-4 in Sunday DH"
Players of the game: Dave Rooker/Schwab - Royals
Royals - GAME 1 saw a humid match-up with the Astros. Tim Payne started on the hill for the Royals making his second appearance. Under the sweltering heat Tim managed to go 4 1/3 innings with 4 K's and 1 BB. But the thick air didn't slow the Astros' bats knocking off 6 runs in the 2nd with a few well placed shots to go up 7-1 early. Over the remaining innings the Astros matched the Royals 3 runs, 1 for 1, ending the game 10-4. Royals bats were pretty sleepy after their 2 week layoff, but were led by Dave Rooker who went 2-3 (1 2B, 1 HR, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 1 K). Dean (1 2B), Runyon, and Franklin added the Royals other 3 hits.
The Royals started game 2 with there belly's full from Mr. & Mrs. Dean's generous team intermission cookouts. The Astros' scored at least 1 run in 5 of the 7 innings played. Eric Jameson threw well for the Royals after finishing up game 1, but a few well placed hits and a couple errors scored the Astros runners. On the hill, Jameson went CG 7 innings with 5 BB, 8 runs, 6 ER. For the day he threw 9 2/3 innings. At the plate the Royals late game rally fell short. Without a hit in the middle 3 innings the Royals' bats started to make some contact and scored 3 runs in the 6th, but, alas, it was not enough, and the Royals fell 10-4. At the plate, the Royals were led by Schwab who went 3-3 (2 RBI's), Rooker went 2-2 (1 run 2 BB's), and Daniel 1-3 (2 RBI's). Several other Royals each added a hit.

"Rangers Win Walkfest 19-16 over Sox"
Players of the game: Jonmarc Lippincott/Shawn Schmitt
After scoring 20 runs vs the Angels two weeks ago, the Rangers put a 19-spot on the Sox on Sunday after 5 hours, 11 innings and 35 runs being scored.

Questionable umpiring calls led to a game total of 33 walks (17-Sox, 16-Rangers). Despite that, both teams left a lot of runners on base (19 LOB - Sox, 16 LOB - Rangers).

The Rangers started off well in the top of the first getting 2 freebie runs that scored on a misplayed fly ball. But the lead quickly evaporated as 8 runs came across to score for the Sox in the bottom half of the first. The Rangers chipped away in the 3rd, keyed by a 3-run HR off the bat of Clint Wolf, his second of the season. But the Sox answered with 1 run of their own and then 4 more in the 4th to jump out to a 14-7 lead. The Rangers erased the deficit in the 5th and 6th innings though. Courtney Parks, Shawn Schmitt, Matt Hood each singled in runs in the 5th. Jake Kingsolver hit a sacrifice fly in the 6th, and Schmitt added a 2-run double and then scored on an errant throw to tie the ballgame. Schmitt came in to pitch in the 5th and pitched extremely well (5 IP, 5 Hits, 1 R, 4 K) to allow the Rangers to sneak back in the game.

The Rangers had their chance to win the game in regulation, but left the bases loaded in the 7th. The Sox had their chance as well. After a flyout to start the 7th, Houghson tripled to the gap. With the infield in, Jeff Fruhwirth grounded to second, but Jonmarc Lippincott gunned out the runner at the plate to preserve the tie. Both teams traded in runs in the 9th and 10th to make the score tied at 16 a piece. Scott Pollak pinch hit and doubled into left center to start the 11th, and after a strikeout and a walk, Lippincott singled into right center to score Pollak and Ethan Goetz with the go-ahead and winning runs.

"Woodpeckers take 2 from Bargo's: 13-0, 17-5"
Players of the game: Josh Thomas/Jamie Peters
Woodpeckers - Game 1 - Woodpeckers got a dominant pitching performance from Josh Thomas, who picked up his fourth victory of the season. Thomas tossed a 3 hitter with 7 k's(7 innings). Chris Ranstead 2-3 (BB), Gabe Thomas 2-4 (2HR'S 3 RBI), Mike Siegman 2-3 (2B,BB) sparked the bats to a 13-0 shut out.
Game 2 - Jamie Peters tried to follow suit as the rest of the pitching staff of the Woodpeckers. Peters took a no hitter into the 7th until a walk and back to back hits spoiled the no-no. Peters piled up 10 k's in the 17-5 win. Brandon Osborne 5-5, Mike Siegman 4-5, Gabe Thomas 3-4 (BB), Chaz DeShayes 3-4 (2B 3 RBI), Matt Klaus 2-4 (2 2B), Steve Marshall 2-4 (HR, 2B, 3RBI).

Game Recap for Sunday June 27th, 2004:

"Rangers Shoot the Angels out of the Sky 20-2"
Player of the game: Josh Rayburn/Jacob Robinson - Rangers
Angels - After a game of only 5 innings, the Rangers beat the Angels senseless with solid hitting, even the balls hit at fielders were misplayed creating errors all over. Then the wheels completely fell off as Amadeaus Carter making his Angels debut starts the fifth inning giving up 7 runs without recording an out. Adam Stewart came in for 2/3 of an inning and fared not much better allowing four before giving in to Jeremy Cunningham who got the last out. (Bob Overbeek 4ip 9r 4er 4so 8h 1BB),(Christian Imes 1-2 1rbi), (Bob Overbeek 2-3), (Jeff Dillard 0-2 1sac 1 Rbi), (Adam Stewart 2-2).
Rangers - The Rangers got an outstanding pitching performance from rookie right-hander Josh Rayburn. Josh pitched the complete game giving up 5 hits and striking out 3.
The Rangers offense was led by some clutch two-out hitting from Jacob Robinson. Jacob had 2 hits and drove in 4 runs on the day to increase his season RBI total to 4. Brian Robinson, Courtney Parks, Jake Kingsolver, Clint Wolf, and Shawn Schmitt also had 2 hits a piece. Clint had 3 RBIs.

"Woodpeckers take two from Royals 21-4, 19-4"
Players of the game: Dean/Rooker/Langdon (Royals)
Sunday the Royals stepped onto the field against the Woodpecker juggernaut they had conquered before looking to repeat. However it was not their day to reign. In his first appearance rookie Tim Payne tried to reel in the Woodpeckers. With the lineup he had to face, he provided 5 2/3 quality innings giving up a hand full, or two. Offensive highlights for the Royals .... Dean went 2-4, Rooker in his return went 2-2, and several others added 1 hit.
In game 2, the Woodpeckers kept the scoring machine rolling. At the plate for the Royals, Big Ron crushed his 2nd HR of the season (3rd overall) to straight away center. Rooker continued his tear going 2-3, Schwab and Jameson also went 2-3 each with a 2B. Defensively for the Royals, left-hander Bill Langdon provided 4 innings of quality work only giving up 6 runs (5 ER, 4 BB).

"Bargo's Fall to Sox Again 5-3"
Player of the game: Bryan Braswell (Bargo's)
Griffith and Bayer once again had multi-hits, but the rest of the offense was non-existent. Braswell pitched solid with 17Ks, but got the loss.

Game Recap for Sunday June 20th, 2004:

"Angels all over the Outlaws 19-3"
Player of the game: Bob Overbeek
Angels - The Angels waited until the third inning to get started Sunday. A combination of singles and walks led to 5 runs. The Angels didn’t need any more runs, but added 4 runs over the next three innings, three of them provided by homeruns by Bob Overbeek and Adam Stewart. The Angels then scored 9 runs in the seventh to end the game. Bob Overbeek had another quality start, pitching 5 innings giving up only five hits and three runs, while striking out 10. Stat leaders for the game, Bob Overbeek (5 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 10 K, 4-5, 2-2B, HR), Justin Newlen (3-6, 4 RS) and Adam Stewart (2-4, 3 RS, 3 RBI, HR).

"Royals come from behind, beat Rangers 10-9"
Players of the game: TJ Dean/Neil Lynch
Royals pull out some late inning heroics to take the win against the Rangers. After an RBI double from Lynch in the 4th, the Royals were finally on the board but down 7-1 after 4. The Royals put up 3 more runs over the next 4 innings before patient batting got the Royals right back in the game. Going into the 8th inning the Royals were down 9-4, but determined to get back into the game setting one of the second best innings on the year for the Royals. After a pair of walks by Daniel and D. Franklin, and Campbell's first hit on the year, the bases were juiced for Royals rookie Nathan Schwab. An RBI single to right kept the inning going with 2 outs. Royals lead-off hitter, TJ Dean, cashed in with a bases-clearing triple and then scored on a wild pitch the very next pitch to tie the game at 9 going into 9th. In the top of 9, Campbell got his 2nd hit of the game (& year) scoring Daniel putting the Royals up 10-9 with the Rangers coming to the plate. However that 1 run was all Royals pitcher, Neil Lynch, needed to finish the game. Putting the Ranger hitters down in capped off by a pair of 9th inning K's. Lynch picked up the Win going 4 innings with 2 ER, 2BB and 4 K's. At the plate all Royals contributed with hits led by Dean (2-4,3rbi,1run,1 3B,1bb,1k), Daniel (2-3,3runs,2bb,1k), Campbell (2-4,2rbi,1run,1k), and Jameson (2-5,1run,1rbi,2k) each tallied multi-hit games. Game Recap for Sunday June 13th, 2004:

"Rangers win slugfest over Bargo's 18-10"
Player of the game: Jonmarc Lippincott
Mother Nature intervened on what surely was to become a 30-run game as the rain forced the Rangers/Bargo's game to end in the 6th inning. The Bargo's got on the board first with a 2-run homerun from Griff, but were unable to put anything else together for the next two innings. In the meantime, the Rangers tacked on 14 runs in the first three innings, highlighted by Jonmarc Lippincott's grand slam homerun in the second. The Bargo's made the game interesting by adding a 7-spot in the fourth, but the Rangers added 2 more in the 4th and 2 in the 6th to keep the game out of reach. Bryan Braswell homered in the 5th for the Bargo's.
Matt Sparks started for the Rangers and got the win striking out 6 over 6 complete innings of work. Griff took the loss for the Bargo's.
Bryan Braswell had the only multi-hit game for the Bargo's. Frank Fouts and Mike Hutter added doubles. "Royals take twinbill from Outlaws 6-4, 9-8"
Players of the game: Neil Lynch, Jace Anders - Royals
Game 1 - In the first game of the DH, the Royals came out poised and ready to get their first win. Going down early 2-1 after 1, the Royals jumped back on top scoring 5 in the next 2 innings to go up 6-2. That was all a lead Long-Armed Lynch needed to keep the Outlaws at bay. The Outlaws scored 2 runs late in the game, but could not get any more. Lynch threw the complete game giving up 4 ER, 0 BB, & 8 K's. Behind him Royals defense played well only having 2 errors in the first inning. At the plate the Royals spread their hits around. Picking up key RBIs for the Royals were Rooker (2-2, 1 2B, 2RBI), Franklin (2-3, 1RBI, 1run), Schwab (1-2, 2RBI, 1run), and Anders (1-3, 1 2B, 1RBI).
Game2 - In the second game the Royals showed some early fatigue under the blazing hot sun. Going down 7-3 after 5 innings the Royals rebounded in a well orchestrated 5-run rally in the 5th, all scored with 2 outs, going up 8-7 after 6. Anders looking for his second overall win of the season shut the Outlaws down in the bottom of the 6th. Looking for a little insurance, Franklin picked up a key RBI single to score Schwab putting the Royals up 9-7 going into the bottom of the 7th. The Outlaws made it interesting after an error and a pair of singles scoring 1 to bring the deficit to 1. With the tying run on 2nd, Anders got the well needed fly ball to end the game. Anders threw a 7 inning complete game with 5 K's, 3 BB, 8 runs, & 5 ER. At the plate 9 of the Royals 11 hitters each had a hit, but were led by Lynch (2-3, 1run, 2RBI), Anders (1-2, 3runs, 1 2B), Franklin (2-4, 1 run, 1 2B, 2RBI), and Daniel (1-3, 1run, 2RBI).

Game Recap for Tuesday June 8th, 2004:

"Rangers win tight one over Outlaws 6-5"
Players of the game: Justin Turton - Angels/Jake Kingsolver - Rangers
The Rangers got to Outlaws' starter Justin Turton early as Brian Robinson and Ethan Goetz opened with singles and came around to score on a single by Courtney Parks. Parks scored two batters later when Jake Kingsolver doubled into the left field corner to make the score 3-0 after 1 inning. But the Outlaws battled back with a three-spot of their own in the 3rd. After a hit by a pitch, single, and a walk loaded the bases, Chad singled in 2 of the runs. The third run came across on a Justin Turton sacrifice fly. The Rangers retook the lead in the 4th after a leadoff double from Rick Dansby who promptly scored on a triple from Kingsolver. Scott Sundermeyer singled through the right side of the infield to drive in Kingsolver. The Outlaws chipped away at the lead in their next at-bat. With two outs, Kevin singled to left field to drive in PJ to cut the lead to 5-4, which stayed that way into the 7th. After Rangers' reliever Jacob Robinson recorded a strikeout and flyout, the Outlaws smashed consecutive doubles to tie the ballgame. Josh Rayburn pinch hit for the Rangers in the 7th and reached base on a single to right and reached third after a throwing error. "Angels defeat Royals 11-6"
Angels - Players of the game: Jake Wiley/Jeremy Cunningham
Jake Wiley started for the Angels and was a bit wild, but didn't give up runs until the 5th inning. Wiley picked up the win finishing up with 2 hits allowed, 6 walks, and 2 earned runs. Jeremy Cunninham came in for some relief and picked up the save going the final 4 innings striking out 1. Offensively for the Angels, Cunningham and Christian Imes (2 doubles) had 3 hits apiece. Doug Roster had a pair of hits including a double. Everyone had at least one hit for the Angels.
Angels - Player of the game: Jace Anders
Anders made his second start of the season going all 9 innings, and did his best to keep the Royals in the game with only 7 guys behind him. As always when playing with 8, there are just too many holes and too few guys, but the Royals tried to not let the Angels get away. The Royals picked up all 6 of their runs in 2 late innings, but saw their hopes dashed away when the Angels CF made an excellent diving catch to finish the night. The Royals' bats are starting to make contact...Rooker led the Royals going 2-4 (2 Runs, 1 RBI, 2 BB), and Dean kept his .400 BA going 2-5 (2 Runs, 1 BB, 1 SB) in the game. Everyone else made good solid contact, and for the first game this season no K's were recorded for the Royals.

"Astros strike early, hold off Rangers 9-7"
Rangers - Player of the game: Josh Rayburn
Astros - Player of the game: Evan Tennery
The Astros jumped out to an early 8-0 advantage in the first three innings and used the mound presence of Brian Leach (win) and Tony Walters (save) to keep the Rangers from overcoming that deficit. Gregg "G-Money" Foster got the momentum rolling for the 'Stros in the top half of the first by stroking a solo homerun to left field, his first of the season. After eight singles later, the Astros built an 8-0 lead. But the Rangers bats found life in the fourth, when Aaron Armstrong hit a two-run single to left to cut the lead to 8-3. Jake Kingsolver provided a 2-run single of his own in the 5th to chip away the lead some more. Evan Tennery added an insurance RBI in the 7th. The Rangers could only muster one more run in each of the last two innings.
The 'Stros Evan Tennery finished 2-5 with 3 runs scored. Mike Leach added 4 RBIs for the Astros. Shawn Schmitt started for the Rangers and took the loss. Josh Rayburn came in to relieve Schmitt and pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up only one run on 4 hits. Scott Pollak pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.

Astros - Players of the game: Brian Girard/Steve Louis
The Astros took game 1 10 -6 behind a complete game from Brian Girard. Larry Schulte led the Offense going 2 for 4 with a Triple and a Homerun.

Brian Leach came on in relief and pitched 3 solid innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 unearned run. A two out error in the eighth plated the winning run for Bargos and gave the Astros their second loss of the season. Steve Louis led the offense going 3 for 4.
Bargo's - Players of the Game (Game 1: Jason Griffith Game 2: Bryan Braswell and Frankie Fouts)
The Barmen were very fortunate this weekend to split the Doubleheader series with the Astros. In game 1, Jason Griffith pitch 5 strong innings (12 Ks) until the 6th when the walks really hurt (12 total BB)...The 450' homerun allowed didn't help matters either. The lackluster offense of game 1 for Bargo's was led by Rich Fouts (2-3, 2RBI) and Mike Hutter (2-3, 1R). Game 2 was a different story with Bryan Braswell on the mound. Braz struck out 15 in 8 innings pitched earning the win. Jason Griffith showed his power blasting the Barmen's first HR of the year going 2-4 (HR, 2B, 1R, 2RBI). Jeff Bayer showed no signs of fatigue following his daily commute from the Queen City going 3-3 with 1R and 2RBI. In the bottom of the eighth inning, with the game on the line, Braz helped himself with 1 out hammering a gapper good for a double. With 2 outs, runner on 3rd, up stepped Frankie "No Fear and Never Silent" Fouts. Like a veteran ob/gyn, Frankie delivered... beating out a chopper up the middle allowing Braz to score and end the game...earning both of them Co-Players of the Game.

"Angels and Outlaws split DH (Angels win 6-4, Outlaws win 6-5)"
Angels - Players of the game: Scott Falkowski/Jeremy Cunningham
The Angels offense got off to a slow start in the first game, only getting two hits in the first four innings. The Outlaws pulled out to an early 4 to 1 lead after two innings until Angels pitcher Scott Falkowski finally found his groove, only allowing three more baserunners after the second inning. The fortunes turned for the Angels in the fifth and sixth innings with timely hits and walks leading to five runs. That's all the Angels would need as Falkowski finished the complete game with a 1-2-3 seventh. Stat leaders for the game, Jeff Dillard (2-3), Doug Roster (2-3) and Mark Roehl (3 BBs). Player of the Game goes to Scott Falkowski (7 IP, 3 ER, 9 H, 1 BB, 7 K).
Game Two also started off with a run in the first for the Angels following a leadoff triple by Jeremy Cunningham. Errors plagued the Angels throughout the game as the Outlaws scored six runs over the first six innings and leaving multiple baserunners along the way. The bats went quiet for the Angels again until the seventh when the comeback kids started their run. Cunningham led off the inning with a double to center and a couple of hits later it was a one run ball game. Hopes died though as a fly ball into the gap by T.J. Miller fell into the centerfielder's glove. Stat leaders for the game, Matt Eccles (1-4, 2 rbi's)and Robert Overbeek (2-4, 5 IP, 2 ER). Player of the Game goes to Jeremy Cunningham (3-4, 3 runs scored).

"Outlaws Claim First Victory of the Season Defeating Royals 13-4"
ROYALS - Players of the game: Rob Runyon/Jace Anders
The Royals showed some off season rust at the plate last night only having 3 total hits. At the plate Royals were highlighted by a 2 Run Triple and a 2 Run Double by newcomers Ron Runyon and Jace Anders, respectively. On the mound Jason Errett (3inn/3k/8bb/4erun) and Anders (3inn/3k/2bb/3run/2erun) came in to try and stop the early game hurt, by only allowing 7 runs over the final 6 innings, but the Royal bats could not provide enough support to overcome the run deficit.
OUTLAWS - Player of the game: Kevin Ashworth
In a game where the Outlaws jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead after 2 innings, the team started to show a little chemistry behind the 3-hit pitching performance of Kevin Ashworth. The offensive scoring was led by Fred White going 3 for 6 with 4 runs scored and the RBI leaders Matt Grushon, Dave Turner, and Kevin Ashworth who all knocked in two. The extra offense was not needed though as Kevin had a commanding performance on the mound under the lights at Rotary pitching 9 innings striking out 12.

"Braswell Notches Win and Save, Rangers Comeback Falls Short, Lose 5-4"
Bryan Braswell pitched a gem at the Dayton Rangers on Sunday striking out 14 in 7 1/3 total innings. The Rangers' pitcher, Matt Sparks, had an effecient 5 innings of work, striking out 6 after giving up his only 2 runs to the first two batters of the ballgame.

The score stood 2-1 until the 7th when the Bargo's scored 3 runs off of reliever Matt Hood. Braswell started off the 7th with a double and scored on Frank Fouts' RBI single. After a sacrifice bunt from Mike Hutter and a walk, Bear drove in both Bargo's runners with a single. With a comfortable 5-1 lead, the Bargo's turned to the bullpen and brought in Griff who worked a scoreless bottom half of the 7th. The Rangers mounted their rally in the 8th when Jacob Robinson singled and Rick Dansby came off the bench and roped a double to left-center. A walk to Goetz loaded the bases. Jonmarc Lippincott grounded into a fielder's choice to score Robinson, and an errant throw from the shortstop allowed Dansby to score. Clint Wolf followed with a single to left and Jake Kingsolver walked to load the bases again. A walk to Shawn Schmitt scored the 4th run of the game and was the end of the line for Griff. Braswell re-entered the game to strike out Brian Robinson and kill the Ranger rally. Braswell pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to record the save.
