"Royals sweep Attack Mules series with 14-6 win"
Players of the game: Brian Duffy (9IP, 11K)/Ben Ailes (3-4, 3runs, BB, 3 2B, 4RBI)- Royals
Royals - The Boys in Blue took the field Sunday night hoping to get another Win to end the 2006 regular season. The Royals sent rookie Brian Duffy to the mound to tame the Attack Mules, and what a gem he would pitch. The game started out fast as the Royals were able to plate 3 quick runs in the bottom of the first off an RBI 2B from Ailes and a 2 RBI 1B off the hot bat of O'Donnell (closes the month of August 10-17 w/13 RBIs). But the Attack Mules would battle back in the top of the second as they were able to place ball-after-ball out over Andrew "Blinded by the Sun" O'Donnell. As in Thursday's affair for Jameson, as the sun set and the artificial lights took over Duffy was able to settle into the groove with his defense behind him. The Boys in Blue were shutout in the bottom of the second still down 4-3. In the top of the third Duffy went 1-2-3 getting Attack Mule batters with two F9s and an easy 5-3. Back to the top of the order in the third, the Royals looked to get back on top. Nathan "Stump the" Schwab started the Royals off with an HBP. A sharp single got runners at 1st and 2nd. Ailes was able to plate Schwab on mis-turned DP. OD was able to plate Franklin (part being played by Ailes in this frame) from 2nd on another infield hit. As Jameson grounded out to the inning the Royals found themselves up 5-4 after 3. This is when the fans would get there money's worth as the Royals and Attack Mules would get runners ever so close but tough pitching or base running mistakes would end the inning. For the Attack Mules in the 4th they were able to get runners to second and third with 1 out, but Duffy settled down to get the AM hitters to fan and ground out 5-3 to end the threat. In the 5th, the Attack Mules would once again threaten the Royals lead. They started with a leadoff double followed by a BB, but Duffy made quick work of the runner on first with a crafty "step to third, watch the guy start running" play. However the Attack Mules would get runners at 2nd and 3rd after an errant throw got runners at the corner, and SB, again Duffy was looking down the barrel of the gun... But was able to pickup back-to-back strikeouts working through 2 full-counts to record the K's and end another threat. The sixth was another short inning for both teams at the plate, but in the seventh the Royals would finally cash in and get Duffy a little breathing room again with the help of Ailes and OD. Losito started the Boys in Blue off with "uncharacteristically pulled" ground-out. Schwaby would again get the Royals started with a quick single and SB Nathan was on second. Duffy followed with a short fly to center that was unable to advance the runner, but Franklin had his back picking up a single to get runners on the corners. This brought Ben Ailes to the plate, and he help his pitcher out, picking up his 3rd double of the day plating Schwab from third and Franklin (this time being played by speedster Duffy) from first. OD followed up with another RBI single (4th on the day) to plate Ailes. The Royals ended the frame up 8-4. In the eighth inning things got a tad hairy as a ball hit high and deep into the darkness bounced a good 15-20 feet short of the fence, but had enough momentum to carry it out over the left field fence on the bounce was called a homerun... After much dispute with the umpire about not being able to call that he regained control of Boys in Blue to move on, but in hindsight all was mute because the AM tallied another single a few batters later that would've plated the run anyways. Duffy ended the inning getting a deep fly to Ailes in center. With the score now 8-5, the Royals would finally get to the AM starter. In the frame the Royals would send 11 guys to the plate, record 5 hits, 3 walks, and score 6 more runs. With a plush 9 run lead Duffy went back to the mound in the top of the night to end what he had started. Attack Mules skipper led off the inning with a double down the 3B line, and would soon score on a sharp hit in the hole. Duffy would walk the next batter before settling in and recording his 10th and 11th strikeouts on the night. With 2 outs and runners at second and third Duffy got the AM hitter to ground into a game ending 6-3 to secure the win.

"Royals sweep series with Halos, win 16-9"
Player of the game: Eric Jameson (CG, 9 K / 2-4, 3R, 3RBI) - Royals
Royals - The Royals and Angels faced off Tuesday night under the blinding setting sun. The Royals sent Eric Jameson to the mound for his second start of the season, and it would be a rocky one until the sun set in the big man’s face. Struggling with location problems on the mound the Angels got a few free passes to start the game and a couple of hits scored the Angels first 3 runs, but in the bottom of the first the Royals weren’t going to let the Angels get away. The were able to plate 3 runs of there own with the help of an O’Donnell triple and a Franklin double. Tied 3-3 after 1, the Angels took the plate again, but the Sun hadn’t gone down far enough just yet. Assisted by a few Royals errors that extended the inning, the Angels were able to get another 5 runs home. Down 8-3 at the bottom of 2 the Royals were only able to squeeze 1 run in off the new Angels pitcher. So at the end of 2 the Royals were down 8-4, but the sun had finally set at Kettering field and Jameson was able to get into his groove only facing 10 batters over the next 3 innings. In the meantime the Royals etched away at the Angels lead and at the end of 5 were up 10-8. In the top of the sixth the Angels were able to plate another run as #4 ran through the third base coaches stop sign to score from second on a leaping, ballet’esque play at the play. In the bottom of the 6th the Royals exploded for 6 runs on 2 hits, 2 walks (1 Ailes was able to turn into a HR), and a handful of errors. The Boys in Blue stayed focus despite the pitchers on the mound for the Halos and were able to bounce back from the early deficit to pickup one more win.

"Royals Hold Off 'Stros 14-9"
Player of the game: Nick Biron (5IP, W, 7K /3-4, BB, R, 2RBI) - Royals
Royals - The Royals faced off Sunday in their last divisional match up of the season against the struggling Dayton Astros. The Royals sent Nick Biron to the mound for his first start in 2 months after being on the DL. The Astros started the game with their Magic 8 in the field and it was working as planned as would be shots to the gap off the bats of Duffy and Biron were turned into routine fly ball outs... However despite the gap control the Royals were able to plate 3 runs in the bottom of the first as Griffith and Jameson knocked out RBI singles. Biron helped his own cause fanning the side in the third and then scoring OD on another RBI single. The Astros got on the board in the top of the fourth as 3 knocked a hot shot up the box to plate Louis. But in the bottom of the fourth the Royals answered as O'Donnell was able to reach base in his 11th straight plate appearance with an RBI single to score Schwab. In the bottom of the fifth the Royals capitalized on a few Astros miscues to load the bases and were able plate 4 runs. With Biron's day done, the Royals skipper went to the bull pen, but today just wasn't the bull pen's day... OD was first to take the hill in relief, but not being a weekend pitcher and no help from the tight zone, OD offered up 5 free passes over 2 innings of work as the Astros were able to plate 5 runs again with Louis' help with his RBI 3B and SF. Only up 9-6, the Royals again went to the bull pen, hoping Losito, the crafty southpaw, would be able to calm the surging Astros. Living a scene right out of Major League 1, Losito walked the bases loaded with balls "Just a bit outside". Looking to stop the bleeding Griffith was brought in as the stopper. Griffith was able to get a ground ball FC for the first out. This was followed by another FC for the second out. But amongst all this the Astros were able to plate a pair of runs of a Royals fielding error. With the lead cut to 9-8, and Louis coming to the plate only needing the HR for the cycle, the Royals offered him the free pass to load the bases. With Lar stepping to the plate, Griffith made short work picking up the K on 3 pitches to get the Royals out of the jam. With the Royals lead only 1, they went to work at the plate looking to pickup a few insurance runs. The Royals first 4 hitters reached base to start the inning. Then after a few FC's and yet another Biron RBI single when the dust settled the Royals had plated 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th. In the top of the 9th the Royals took the field up 14-8. Griffith was able to get the Astros first hitter to ground harmlessly out. After a HP, a single, and a BB to load the bases (just to make things interesting.. :?) Griffith retired the next two batters with a 6-4 FC and a 1-3 to end the game. A little shaky in the middle but the Boys in Blue stayed focus to pickup another win.

Recaps for Tuesday August 8th, 2006:

"Royals Blank Angels 3-0"
Player of the game: Jason Griffith (CG, 13 K’s) - Royals
Royals - On Tuesday night the Royals faced off in their first game against the Angels that hasn’t been rained out. The Royals sent flame-thrower Jason Griffith to the mound to counter the Halos starter Jeff Cherry. On the night both pitchers would prove to be tough to hit. Going into the 7th inning the game was scoreless and there were only a handful of hits from both squads, but in the top of the seventh the Royals would finally help their starter out. Catcher Mark Franklin led off the inning with a double to right-center off the Angel reliever to get things rolling. That was followed up with an RBI double from Ron Runyon to plate the first run of the game. Griffith helped his own cause laying down a sacrifice bunt to move Runyon to third getting that insurance run that much closer to home, but Runyon would be able to trot home, chased closely by speedster Ben Ailes, as rookie Andrew O’Donnell knocked the third double of the inning to right center to plate the Royals final two runs. Up 3-0 this is all Griffith would need to close the book on the Angels as he fanned each of the first two batters before being squeezed a bit at the plate walking the next two batters. But with runners at first and second Griffith was able to get the Angels hitter to fly out to left to end the game, Royals 3, Angels 0.

"Royals Rope Outlaws 10-3"
Players of the game: Andrew O'Donnell (3IP, SV, 3K/4-4, 3R, 3RBI), Dan Losito (6IP, Win, 9 K's) - Royals
Royals - Well it took the Boys in Blue a little longer to get to the field on Sunday, but once they got there it was all business. The Royals sent south-paw hurler, Dan Losito to the mound to try and "gun down" Outlaw hitters. The Royals were the visitors on the day and went to the plate first, but anyone who follows the Royals knows it takes the Boys in Blue awhile to get in gear. However for the Outlaws it was not the case as they were able to cash in off one of the few free passes Losito handed out and plated the first run off back-to-back singles to take the early 1-0 lead. But the lead was short lived as the Royals 6/7 hitters (OD and Jameson) would not let the game slip away for Losito. Jameson plated the first 2 Royals runs off a double to center to get back on top 2-1 after 2. Losito continued to be judge and jury as he sentenced Outlaw hitters to a steady diet of Fastballs and Sliders, racking up 6 strikeouts over his final 4 innings of work to keep the Outlaws hitters handcuffed at the plate. As for the Royals, they continued to putt along their other 9 hitters with a hit here and a walk there to get back to OD and Jameson who would continue to plate run after run for the Royals going 7-9 with 6 RBI's and 4 runs between the two on the day. After 6 innings the Royals had acquired a cushy 7-1 lead before Losito would hand the game over to Bronson Arroyo look-alike Andrew O'Donnell who looked to hold the game for the Win. In OD's first inning of work after a routine 6-3 the Outlaws were able to load the sacks, but a nicely turned 6-4-3 ended the inning and the Outlaws threat. In the 8th the Outlaws got to OD capitalizing on a walk to plate 2 more runs off b2b hits again to bring the game to 7-3 before OD closed the inning. In the top of the ninth the Royals got those 2 runs back plus one off RBI singles from OD and Jameson (common theme on the day?) and capped with a FC off the bat of RF Matt Haver. With a 10-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth the OD looked to close the case with the Outlaws and gave a final verdict on the day going 1-2-3 with 2 K's to seal the deal. The game was a must win for the Royals to keep pace in the tight American Divisional Race (for second :-P ).

Recaps for Sunday July 30th, 2006:

"Indians Stop Sox Streak 10-1"
Player of the game: Colby Albert (2-4, 2 RBI) - Indians
Indians - Despite a heat advisory, the Springfield Indians and the Beavercreek Sox took the field Sunday in a game very important to the Indians’ season. Tied for second within the American Division with the rival Royals, the Indians sent pitcher Phil Beach to the hill. The starter for the National Division leading Sox, Kirkendoll, threw extremely well, holding the Indians to 0 runs through 5. Trailing 1-0 in the sixth, Indians catcher Timmons started a rally with a single, and was followed by hits from Wick, Bame, Branch, and new addition Colby Albert. When the dust settled, the Indians had taken a 5-1 lead, and that was all it would take. The Tribe was able to tack on a couple insurance runs in the 8th and 9th, courtesy of some timely hits from J. Porteus, Nichols, Branch, and Wick. Offensive leaders on the day were Aaron Timmons (3-5, R), Josh Wick (2-4, 2 RBI), Jason Bame (3-5, RBI), and Colby Albert (2-4, 2 RBI). Beach turned in his best performance of the year, surrendering only one run on 10 hits while throwing the Indians’ first 9-inning complete game of the year.

"Royals Avoid Reapers Touch, Win 11-10"
Player of the game: Ben Ailes (3-4, 2B, 2 R, 2 SB) - Royals
Royals - The Royals and Reapers matched up Tuesday night in their second and final matchup of the season. The newly improved Reapers took the field behind crafty left hander Joel Hall, while the Royals countered with veteran Eric Jameson in his first start of the season. The Royals were able to jump out to an early 5-1 lead after 2 before the game was halted for darkness while FedEx delivered the light key. With the bright lights shining down on the field the Reapers countered with a 5 spot of their own to take a 6-5 lead. In the fourth the Reapers were able to plate another pair of runs, while the Royals were only able to counter with 1. Up 8-6 in the fifth the Reapers plated another pair of runs to extend their lead to 4. The Royals were down but not out as they began to chip away at the Reapers lead. They were able to plate a run in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth to cut the Reapers lead to 2 going into the seventh. In the top of the seventh the Reapers were able to get a couple of insurance runs to first and second before Losito settled in and got the final two batters of the inning to fly out. Down 10-8, with the heart of the Royals lineup coming to the plate, they hoped to extend the game another inning or wrap it up. Franklin and Griffith lead off the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back singles. Ailes singled in a run to cut the Reaper lead to 1. Jameson drew a walk to load the bases and bring Matt Haver to the plate down 1 with 1 out. Haver was able to squirt an infield ground ball past the charging third baseman to plate Griffith to tie the game and keep the bases loaded. First baseman Chad Campbell stepped up looking to close the book on the long, bug filled evening. Up 2-1 in the count Campbell knocked a fly ball into short right that turned out to be enough to plate the game winning run as Ailes was able to score from third off an errant pickoff throw on the fly ball catch. The Royals were once again able to narrowly avoid the up-and-coming Reapers and get the win 11-10.

"Sox slip by Royals in double header with 5-4 and 6-3 wins"
Players of the game: Game 1 Jason Griffith (CG, 8 Ks), Game 2 Brian Duffy (5 IP, 3 Ks / 3-4, 1 R) - Royals
Royals - The Royals took the field Sunday against the red hot Sox. The Sox got to the Royals early with some key opposite field shots and were able to plate their 5 runs in the first 4 innings. Down 5-0 after 4 the Royals finally got a run across the plate as Centerfielder Ben Ailes was able to score with a head first slide into the plate on a passed ball. In the bottom of the 5th the Royals picked away at the Sox lead and were able to plate another 3 runs, one off an O’Donnell single and a pair off an Ailes sac fly with a throwing error. The game would remain 5-4 into the Royals last at-bats in the bottom of the seventh. The Royals were able to get a pair of runners on base, but with 1 out the Sox ended the game with back-to-back fly outs to end the Royals threat and preserve their 5-4 win.
Game two saw the Royals jump out to an early 2-1 lead after the first 4 innings. However in the fifth, the Sox were finally able to get to Royals starter Brian Duffy, and score a pair of runs off a well placed double from Jeremey Fruhwirth and a Phil Kosier sac fly. In the sixth the Sox added 3 more to their lead with some back-to-back-to-back hitting. In the Royals last at-bats in the top of the seventh, they were able to plate one off a Campbell single before an infield fly ended the game.

Recaps for Sunday July 16th, 2006:

"Rangers Shutout Royals 3-0"
Players of the game: Jacob Robinson - Rangers (2-5 3B 2RBI); Nick Biron (W, 2IP, 4K / 2-4, HR, 2R)
Royals - On what has to be the hottest day of the summer, the Royals and Rangers faced off in their second meeting of the year. With the thermometer surpassing 90, both teams hoped for a game as fast as their previous meeting, but on this day that was not to be the case. The Royals cracked the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first after an Ailes single plated Schwab. This was already more runs than they scored in their previous outing. However the Rangers weren’t going to let the Royals slip away, matching in the top of the second after Brent Collinsworth laced a double down the third base line off his kneecaps to plate Jacob Robinson. The game would stay 1-1 until the 5th when both teams would plate a few runs. The Rangers picked up two with back-to-back singles off the bats of Jonmarc Lippincott and Clint Wolf, but the Royals were able to counter with 2 of their own off singles by Schwab and Franklin. Tied 3-3 the Rangers posted another pair of runs on a couple Royals miscues to take a 5-3 lead. Continuing the see-saw battle, the Boys in Blue plated 3 in the bottom of the sixth that began with and RBI 2B off the bat of O’Donnell and followed up with RBI singles from Schwab and Duffy. As the heat continued to drain both teams' stamina, the Rangers sparked the game in the top of the ninth. Down 6-5, the Rangers got the first 2 batters on base with back-to-back walks before the Royals went to the bullpen to bring Biron to the mound after his stint on the DL. Biron, up to his old form, K'd the first batter he faced before Robinson laced a 2 RBI triple to right and would later score on yet another Royal miscue before Biron would close out the inning with another strikeout. Down 2 in the bottom of the ninth, the Royals took the plate looking not let this one slip away. Franklin and Ailes were able to reach base to start off the inning, and Franklin would later score off a sharply hit ground ball. Ailes was able to move to third bringing the tying run 90 feet away from the plate with 2 outs. The Royals caught a break when Ailes was able to score on a passed ball that took an unlucky Rangers hop off the back wall to send the game into extra innings. Heading into the top of the tenth, Jonmarc executed a perfect hit-and-run to plate Jelani Arnold from first to give the Rangers a 9-8 lead before Biron buckled down and fanned the rest of the side. As the Royals went to the plate they were led off with their deadliest spot in their lineup, the nine-hole. Other notable sparks from the nine-hole came from OD who hit a triple and a GS from the nine-hole. Biron looked to help his own cause as he took the plate with the Royals down 1. On the first pitch of the at-bat, Biron took the Clark offering and parked it over the left field fence to knot the game up yet again at 9. After the next two Royals were able to reach base and a sacrifice bunt moved them around to 2nd and 3rd, the Rangers elected to intentionally walk Ailes to load the bases with one out. Ryan Hall stepped to the plate looking to end the circus act, and with the bases loaded, a misplaced ball hit Hall in the back plating the game winning run. Final score Royals 10, Rangers 9 in 10 long, hot innings.

"Reapers Get in Win Column, Down Angels 7-5"
Players of the game: Kevin Reynolds - Reapers
Reapers - In a well played game, the Angels jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first but the Reapers weren't going to let this one get out of hand as they put up their own run in the first to tie it up and then scored 4 more before the Angels added another one in the 6th. Behind a solid pitching performance from Kevin Reynolds, he held the Angels to only 5 runs as he went the distance and pitched a complete game giving his offense a chance to keep battling and knock in 7 to support him. On the offensive side of the game Scott Jones went 3-4 scoring 2 runs and knocking 2 in. Following close behind him was Andrew Verrett who went 1-3 with a double and knocked in 2 runs and Jesse Somann who went 2 for 3, 1 RBI, 2 SB. Overall the team showed that they could handle themselves on the field and that it just took a while for them to knock all the rust off. This should be the spark that ignites the Reapers into adding many more to the win column.

Recaps for Sunday July 9th, 2006:

"Rangers Shutout Royals 3-0"
Players of the game: Brad Clark - Rangers (9IP, 2K, 0BB, 4H); Jason Griffith - Royals (CG, 5K, 1-4)
Royals - The dismantled Royals took the field with a new look defense. However, focused on playing defense, they forgot to bring their bats. Jason Griffith made the start for the Royals hoping to keep the Rangers at bay. In what has got to be the fastest MVABL 9-inning baseball game in years, Griffith and Clark battled it out. Both pitchers worked quickly through the opposing hitters and only scattered 8 hits between both squads on the day. If you love defense this was the game to watch as both squads played great in the field. But at the plate the Rangers were able to get the hits when they needed to. Jelani Arnold help put the Rangers up 1-0 with a sharp hit ball to right, and that would prove to be the only run the Rangers needed on the day as the Boys in Blue were blanked on the scoreboard. The Rangers picked up their second pair of runs in the 4th and 5th, and then it was all down hill as Rangers continued to suck-up groundballs and make pinpoint throws to thwart any Royals comeback. The Royals tried to muster a few runs in their last at-bat managing to get runners at first and second, but two quick outs ended the 1 hour and 45 minute marathon of a game.

"Royals Beat Reapers 11-4"
Players of the game: Brian Duffy - Royals (5IP, 5K, 1ER/3-4, 3R, 3B); Kevin Reynolds - Reapers
Royals - The Reapers and Royals faced off under the lights Thursday night at the friendly confines of Rotary Park. The Royals sent rookie Brian Duffy to the hill for his first start of the season. The Reapers countered with crafty right-hander Kevin Reynolds. The Reapers were able to strike first in the bottom of the second when Mike Ivers laced a shot to the outfield to score Verrett from 2nd. In the top of the 3rd the Royals went down easy, 1-2-3. In the bottom of the 3rd the Royals avoided another Reapers scoring chance with some nifty ball work. In the top of the 4th the Royals bats came to life so that young Duffy would not go home a loser in his first stint on the mound. The Boys in Blue plated 3 with a double off Griffith’s bat and outfield throwing error. From there the Royals buckled down and didn’t look back. The Royals plated 4 runs in both the top of the sixth and the seventh to build a 11-1 lead with the Reapers coming up in the bottom of the seventh. Dan Losito looked to extinguish the Reapers and bring home the victory, but the Reaper bats awoke in the seventh. Plating 3 runs off 3 hits, with 2 outs the game ended in the most unusual way. A live ball foul tip steal was thwarted as Losito threw the runner out walking back to first to close out the game. Not the best way to wrap up the game, but it got the job done, Royals up 11-4.

"Royals Win via Walk-Off HR, defeat 'Stros 8-5"
Players of the game: Jason Griffith (9IP, 13 K/ 3-4, R, 2B) / Astros - Mike Leach (CG, 7 K / 2-3, 2R, RBI, BB)
Royals - The Royals took the field Sunday against the struggling, but always dangerous Dayton Astros. The Astros sent hard-throwing Mike Leach to the mound to help them get back on track. Jason Griffith took the mound for the Boys in Blue looking to rebound from his 6-2 loss against the Indians. The Astros struck first picking up 2 runs in the first off a sac fly and a throwing error. Leach sat the Royals down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first, but they would rebound in the 2nd to pickup 4. The Astros countered with 1 in the top of the third to pull within 1. In the fifth Ailes single plated Hall in what the Royals felt was the insurance run needed for the victory. However a shot to the gap off the bat of John Forman pulled the Astros within one again. The scored remained 5-4 going into the ninth, when a sacrifice fly off Leach’s bat plated Tennery to tie the game at 5. Griffith got Astros Rookie Steve to fly out to right to end the Astros threat. In the bottom of the ninth, after 137 pitches Royals skipper gave starter Jason Griffith the hook if they had to take the field again and was going to the pen if they couldn’t cap off the W for him. Looking to pull one out for Griff, the determined Royals went to work. Biron led off the inning with a walk, and Schwab followed with a bunt single to get 2 ducks on the pond. Ryan Hall stepped up to the plate looking to end the game, but fell short flying out to left. With 1 down the Astros were at double-play depth looking to get out of the inning and send it into extras, but Royals’ catcher Mark Franklin, up 2-0 in the count, lifted a ball over the left-center field fence for the 3-run walk-off homerun to pickup the win for the Royals and starter Jason Griffith.

"Royals/Indians Split Twinbill"
Players of the game: Jason Griffith, Dan Losito - Royals/Phil Beach - Indians
Royals - The Royals took the field in a pair of much needed games to stay in the divisional hunt. Jason Griffith took the mound for the Royals in game 1. Griffith was phenomenal off the mound controlling the tempo and snagging several hits for outs along the way. However the offense and defense just wasn’t there for support. The Indians struck first in the bottom of the first picking up 2 runs and another in the 3rd to take a 3-0 lead. The Boys in Blue just couldn’t string together any hits against Indians starter Phil Beach. The Royals were finally able to plate a pair off singles from Franklin and Griffith, but with the bases loaded the Royals bats went silent to end the threat. Down 3-2 the weary Royals gave up another 3 runs on some miscues. Down 6-2 in the final plate appearance, the Boys in Blue were only able to muster a single before the side was fanned.
The Royals looked to rebound in game 2 of the twin bill. After a dismal offensive performance the Royals bats heated up as the sun began to set over the cornfields. The Royals sent crafty left-hander Dan Losito to the mound to help calm the tribe. Losito had a good outing and even helped is own cause racking up 3 RBIs. At the plate the Royals offense scored early and often over the course of the game. The Indians battled but weren’t able to muster enough to reel in the Royals who looked to split the day. O’Donnell came into pitch the final innings of the game for the Royals and scattered 4 runs, but was able to close out the game with a fly ball to right to cap the day’s games with a 13-6 victory. Losito pitched 4 innings and struck out 4.

The Attack Mules struck first in the bottom of the third as Steve Fryman laced a single up the middle to score the first run of the game. But as the Royals took the plate in the top of the fourth they sent the heart of the lineup to the plate. After a leadoff walk Jason Griffith cashed in on the first pitch he saw belting a 2 run HR to deep center to put the Royals on the board. Later in the inning TJ Dean would score from second on a single down the 3rd baseline. The score remained 3-1 until the 6th when the Attack Mules picked up their second on a sharply fielded ball that got away on the throw. The score would remain 1-0 until the 4th, when, in the top of the inning, PJ Dixon led of with a single and would later score on an Kevin Ashworth single. In the bottom of the 4th, the Indians tallied 3 more runs as 4 of the first 5 batters would reach, and three of them would score. In the 5th, Wick would score what turned out to be the winning run off a Deric Nichols single. The Outlaws showed a lot of grit, though, scoring two off of Indians pitcher Phil Beach courtesy of a Benkert HR that made the score 5-3. The Outlaws would score one more in the 7th off Indians closer Chris Mills following a nasty collision at first base between Beach and Doug “The Freight Train” Schommer. However, the rally would end there thanks to Mills striking out the Outlaws’ Goulding to end the game and bring home the win.
The second game started with a bang, as the Indians were lucky enough to get some quick runs off some tough pitching from Ashworth and the Outlaws. The Indians found themselves up 7-0 after the second, thanks to some timely hitting from, amongst others, Danny Colella (3-3, 2B, 3B, 3R), Matt Porteus, Aaron Timmons (3-5, 2B), and Jason Bame (2-3, 2 RBI). 8 of the 9 Indians starters would score in the course of the game, and 6 of them in the first 2 innings. "Outlaws Snap Royals Win Streak, Win 5-0"
Player of the game: Jason Griffith (CG, 8K's) - Royals
Royals - The Royals took the field Thursday night missing a lot of key players. Shorthanded and playing the up-and-coming Outlaws was not a good combination. The Outlaws struck first in the top of the first when Turton placed a ball into the centerfield abyss that plated the first two runs of the game. In the second the Outlaws plated another 3 runs before Royals starter Jason Griffith finally got into his grove. However his counterpart on the mound, Justin Turton, took the field for the Outlaws and kept the Royals lineup at bay throughout the game. Only able to amass 4 hits was not enough to overcome the 5-0 deficit on this short night. Both pitchers were tough on the mound racking up 17 K's between the two over the 7 innings.

Sox - The Beavercreek Sox got off to a quick start in their season opener scoring 7 runs in the first 3 innings. Then their bats fell silent until the 8th and 9th inning where they scored a total of 12 runs. The 12 runs were enough offense to get past the Outlaws. Tim Antil pitched 6 complete innings allowing just 1 unearned run. Antil had 8 strikeouts, 3 walks and gave up just 2 hits. The Sox offense was provided by Michah Wilson 3-4, one run scored; Jon Dalton 3-6, double and 2 runs scored; Jeremey Fruhwirth 4-7, double, three runs scored; Ryan Houghson 2-5, 3 runs scored; Mark Burger 2-5, double and Josh Fiebiger 1-3, triple, 2 runs scored.

"Royals Outlast Astros 6-2"
Player of the game: Nick Biron - Royals
Royals - The Royals and Astros faced off Sunday night in a great pitching duel. The Astros sent their ace Brian Girard to the hill to counter Royals starter Nick Biron. In a great pitching matchup, hits would be few and far between for both teams. The Royals struck first when Nick helped his own cause scoring Campbell from third on a base hit. The lead was short lived as Steve Louis launched a misplaced pitch "down by the river" to knot the game at 1. The Astros took the lead after a fielding miscue allowed them to plate their second run. Down by 1, the Royals buckled their chinstraps and settled in. Picking up a couple runs each inning allowed the Royals to build a 6-2 lead. With the sun setting, and the only lights in sight were coming from a heated doubles match on the nearby tennis courts, the game ended after 7. Hats off to both pitchers as they were able to keep all hitters at bay racking up K after K on both sides.

The score remained 2-0 until the bottom of the 3rd when the Peckers plated 2 runs to tie the game at 2. The Astros offense was dormant as the game progressed and the woodpeckers continued to slowly build their lead scoring 1 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, and 3 more in the 7th to close the door at 8-2. Mike Siegman led the Woodpecker attack going 4 for 4 with a 2B, HR and 2 RBI. Steve Louis led the Astros going 2 for 3 with a 2B,HR and 2 RBI.

Player of the game: Kevin Canfield - Indians (3-4, 2B, HR, 5 RBI)
Indians - On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, the Indians broke in their new home field with an 18-5 victory over the Bellbrook Reapers. Joe Porteus took the hill for the Tribe and turned in another solid performance (5 IP, 5 K, 4 BB, 2 H, 4 ER). The Indians started the scoring early, with Wick reaching after being hit, singles from Colella and Beach, and a double from Canfield. At that point, the Indians found themselves up 3-0. One more would cross the plate in the second. In the third, the floodgates broke loose courtesy of some timely hitting and a Kevin Canfield 3-run moon-shot over the centerfield fence. The HR would be one of 8 consecutive hits that would result in the Tribe batting around and plating 8 in the inning. The rest of the damage would be done in the fifth, thanks in large part to a Matt Porteus 2-run HR over the left field fence. Jason Bame came in and successfully protected the lead throwing 2 innings while recording 4 K’s, 0 Runs, and 0 hits.

"Outlaws Gun Down Rangers 19-6"
Player of the game: Jason Benkert - Outlaws/Clint Wolf - Rangers
Rangers - After a couple of weeks off, the Rangers looked bewildered as they took the field Sunday against the Kettering Outlaws. A big 10-run inning keyed the Outlaws to a 19-6 victory. Jeremy Lippincott made his first start for the Rangers in over three years and was the tough luck loser. Lip pitched two innings and gave up three runs and struck out five. The Outlaws sent rookie righthander Jason Benkert to the mound. Benkert fresh off an impressive season with Sinclair Community College, retired the first 9 batters before giving up two runs in his final two innings of work. The Outlaws held a 13-0 lead before the Rangers found homeplate. Jelani Arnold led off the fourth with a hit to right and scored on an RBI single by Clint Wolf. Jeremy hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield in the fifth inning to make the score 14-2. Brent Collinsworth and James Robinson drove in runs in the 6th. And Clint Wolf added two more RBIs to his stat total with a two-run double in the seventh.

"Rangers Hold Off Astros 7-4"
Player of the game: Clint Wolf - Rangers (3-for-5 2B, 3RBI)
Rangers - Rangers’ pitchers Jacob Robinson and Jelani Arnold held the Astros to just five hits on Sunday in a 7-4 opening day win. Jake started and went six innings and struck out three to pick up the win. Jelani nailed down the final three innings allowing only one hit as he also struck out three for the save, his first as a member of the Rangers.
The Astros struck early with two runs in the first and one in the third as third baseman Steve Louis drilled a pair of doubles to deep right center field. The Rangers answered with two in the third as Nick Frey, Jonmarc Lippincott, Clint Wolf, and Joe Staten led the inning off with hits. Joe Staten tied the ballgame up at 3-3 with an RBI groundout to second that plated Lippincott in the fifth. The Rangers took the lead for good in the top of the seventh after Wolf doubled with the bases juiced to give the Rangers a 5-3 advantage. After an intentional walk to Joe Staten to load the bases, Dave Roemerman worked a one-out walk to score Lippincott. Jacob Robinson’s sacrifice fly in the eighth finished the scoring for the Rangers.
The Astros mounted a short-lived comeback in the final inning as Ron Wallace reached on an error to start off the ninth. Arnold then struck out Gregg Foster and got Branden Haddix to pop up. However, Rob Johnson laced a two-out single to right to plate pinch-runner Brian Girard to cut the lead to three. Dorian Glover and Brandon Bowyer drew walks to load the bases and bring the potential winning run to the plate. But Jelani buckled down and forced a ground ball to shortstop to kill the rally.

"Woodpeckers Defeat Outlaws 8-2"
Player of the game: Tyrone Kelley - WP (3-for-4 HR, 2RBI)
Outlaws - The Ohio Woodpeckers started 2006 with a 8-2 victory over the Outlaws. Led by Toby Stewart's strong pitching performance with 6IP 5H 2ER and 6K and Tyrone Kelly's bat 3-4 HR & 2RBI, the Woodpeckers picked up where they left off last season. The Outlaws did the best they could to keep pace, scoring two in the 2nd with a Rick Anderson single, Ryan Benkert double, followed with a single by Justin Turton plating the two runs. The Woodpeckers scored one run in the 5th and 6th innings and then put the game away with three in the 7th.

"Royals Win Late, Defeat Indians 11-7"
Players of the game: Nick Biron - Royals (5 IP, 11 K, 1 H, 3 BB, 2 ER), Matt Porteus - Indians (2-4, 2B)
Indians - Sunday morning, the Tribe took the field against the rival Kettering Royals in grass you could lose a small child in. For the Tribe, the scoring started early, with centerfielder Josh Wick reaching on a single, and later scoring on a Danny Colella single in the first. In the second, Matt Porteus reached on a single and started a nice little rally for the Indians, as Timmons, Herren, and Bame would all score in the inning. Porteus would also double and later score in the third inning. In the fifth, with the Indians leading 5-4 the Royals pulled starter Dan Losito and brought in fireballer Nick Biron and the Indians bats went to sleep. Biron would retire 15 of the 18 batters he faced, give up only 2 hits, and recorded 11 strike outs in only 5 innings of work. Exhausted from flailing haplessly at Biron fastballs, the Indians pitchers went on the warpath. As fatigue set in, Indians pitchers would hit 5 Royals players in the final three innings of the game.

Royals - The Royals took to the field against a former teammate and the rest of the Indians tribe on Sunday morning. After a slight delay searching the infield for practice balls, both teams took the field as the sun broke through the gray clouds. As the Royals took the plate in the top of the first, the boys in blue were a little anxious to be facing former Royals pitcher, Phil Beach, as they went down 1-2-3 seeing only 8 pitches. Not the way the Royals wanted to start the day, but it was only a few of many at-bats for the day. As Dan Losito took the hill for the Royals in his first start of the season, the Indians jumped on a few balls early and picked up a 1 run lead off a deep Beach sacrifice fly. In the top of the second the Royals were able to knot the game up when T.J. Dean laced a single that died in the outfield giving Ailes a chance to score from second. However the Indians were able to plate 4 runs over the next two innings off some timely hitting and some Royals throwing mistakes. But being down 5-1 the Royals plated 3 off the bats of Schwab and Hall to close out the top of the 5th 5-4.
After 4 strong innings of work from Losito (4 inn, 2 K, 1 BB, 7 H) the Royals skipper went to the bullpen bringing in Royal rookie Nick Biron. Nick pitched with strength and accuracy as he got the first 8 Indians batters faced before losing 1 to a hit-by-pitch. The Royals batters were patient at the plate and were able to plate 5 runs over the 6th and the 7th to take a 9-5 lead. In the bottom of the 8th the Indians were able to plate Beach and Canfield off a Herren FC and a timely rundown to plate Canfield to bring the Indians within 2. Up 9-7 in the top of the 9th the Royals looked to get a few insurance runs to stay on top. After a long day and the hot sun Mills had trouble finding the strike zone, but not Royals’ batters, handing out 3 free passes. Singles by rookie Brian Duffy and veteran Schwab plated 3. Up 12-7 facing the top of the Indians order Biron finished with the power he started with fanning the side 1-2-3 to close out the game.

Recaps for Sunday April 30th, 2006:

"Royals Rain on Outlaws Parade 10-9"
Player of the game: Ben Ailes - Royals (2-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI)
Royals - On Sunday night the Royals opened the 2006 season against the Outlaws, the same team that ended their 2005 season. This game proved to be an exciting one. With several new Royals in lineup and in the field the team looked to start off on the right foot. Royals starter Nick Biron took the hill and went 5 strong innings giving up 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 9. The Outlaws came out guns a-blazing scoring a run in each of their first 3 innings. The Royals were able to knot the game at 3 following a 2-run HR from Royals rookie Ryan Hall. As the rain began to fall the Royals took the lead in the bottom of the 6th with an RBI double of the bat of Campbell. The Outlaws, not to be outdone, posted one run in the top of the 7th to once again tie the game up 4-4. As the Royals took the plate in the bottom of the 7th, they were finally able to string together some hits. Scoring runs off back-to-back-to-back doubles by Griffith, Runyon, and Ailes and capped by an RBI single from Schwab the 7th inning ended with the Royals on top 7-4. With the game agreed to last only through the eighth inning, the Outlaws were able to plate 5 to take a 9-7 lead. But as the soggy Royals took the plate they were able to get the first 2 batters aboard with walks. Griffith plated 1 with a sharp single. Down 8-9, the clock tower chimed as Big Ben Ailes poked a game winning 2 RBI double into the outfield plating Biron and Griffith.
