Yates becomes the 5th rookie and the Wild Boars' first Cy Young Award winner, and joins Jon Venters (Sox 2011, 2014) and AJ Boshinski (Thunder 2013) on a small list of lefty winners. Matt was 5th in the league in innings pitched (50) and becomes the 4th Cy Young award winner with 50 or fewer innings of work (Ryan Kemp 2017, Venters 2011, Tim Antil 2006). But Yates was effective in those innings, amassing 84 punchouts and a league-best 2.16 ERA, finishing with a 5-2 record and 1 save. Yates was one of just 3 pitchers this season to record multiple games with 10+ strikeouts, striking out 11 Knights on April 25 and 14 Stars on Aug 15. He also appeared in 13 games this year, tied for third-most in the league, and was one shy of the Boars' single-season mark of 14 (Travis Knight 2015).
