Dobbins notches first win as a Boar

On Sunday the 23rd the Boars headed to Middletown to take on last years League Champs the Camden Redlegs. The Redlegs stood their ground even when threatened by the Boars runners the Boars could produce 1 run on 6 hits. Despite hitting the ball well it just never fell where it needed to when we needed it too the most. Chris Musick added some pop to the Boars line-up in free agency this off season, scorched a double late in the but the Boars could not overcome a 7 run deficit.  Gregg Pfeiffer who went 1 for 2 with a BB and broke up the shutout with the Boars only RBI was named Boars  Offensive player of the game his first.

Brandon Lucas who pitched well enough to win with a complete game performance and 7 K's took the loss to go 1-1 on the year. Jackson Millard was named Boars Defensive player of the game Millard, who assisted in the 7 strikeouts allowed 0 passed balls and allowed no runners to advance even on balls in the dirt.

In the other game the Boars pulled out a part of the new look for 2017 and went to the dark side, The new Black undershirt Jersey for the new Boars grey sleeveless uniforms. PJ Dobbins was scheduled to take the mound but with the loss of his father a week ago there were some questions, Boars Coach Joe Cantrell had earlier in the week confirmed that PJ would be at the games and that he indeed wanted to pitch.

After a little rocky start The Boars found themselves  down by 1 after the first and then the Redlegs pushed 2 more across in the second for a 3-0 lead. The Boars struck in the 3rd putting up 2 and cutting the deficit to 1. The Redlegs ever relentless scored 1 in the 4th to go back up by 2.

The Boars opened the 5th and took the first lead of the day scoring 5 runs total and were now leading 7-4.

The 3 run lead was added to once more in the 6th and the Boars had an 8-4 lead. Dobbins only needed the lead and kicked it into a higher gear, defense held tough too, a long ball off the bat of Jacob Robinson was ran down and caught by Boars center fielder  Doug Adkins. Boars 2nd baseman Grant Mink handled a sharp hit short hop with a big bounce for a great play with the put out by 1st baseman Garret Copas.  Boars catcher Dan Nordin handled a put out at 3rd base when Dobbins spun off the mound freezing the Redlegs lead runner. The subsequent run down went from Dobbins to Musick to Mink back to Musick to Nordin who recorded the out, or 1-5-4-5-2.

In the 7th the Boars recorded the final 3 outs. PJ- Dobbins was named Boars Offensive player of the game, Dobbins went 2-4, 1-SB and 2 runs scored

Dobbins was also named Boars  Defensive Player of the game with the complete game win  1-BB, 4- ER, 3 Assist and 5 K's. The Boars team and PJ dedicated the win to  honor PJ's father. Pj- Dobbins first win as a member of the Boars and received the game ball and is the 2nd Boar to win both  Boars Offensive and Defensive player in a single game.
