Boars take on Diamondbacks in Wood-Batsic Classic

Boars need extra innings to close out win after tying score in the 9th

Gastineau Field, New Carlisle Ohio was the site of the Boars game today against the over 30 Dayton Diamondbacks in the fist Wood-Batsic Classic game with wood bats, 

The Boars jumped out early scoring in the first after PJ Dobbins got a single and was moved to 3rd off of Markus Halls double. Catcher Meade Tabata lifted a  sac fly to the outfield allowing Dobbins to score and the Boars led 1 to 0.

The Boars lead was short lived as Diamondbacks 2nd baseman Grim got a single and scored when Boars 1st baseman Joe Cantrell snagged a grounder and fed it to the pitcher Travis Knight but Travis miss stepped at first and strode over the bag allowing  Diamondbacks Pitcher- Early to be called safe allowing -Grim to score from 3rd. 

The Boars picked up a 2nd run from new acquisition Matthew Wilkinson, hit a 2 out single and scored off the bat of Mike Flanagan who picked up the RBI. the Boars would not score again until the 6th despite threatening in the 5th but leaving runners on and in scoring position.

The Diamondbacks would tie it in the 5th when Diamondbacks pitcher Early again got a single and was brought home by the D-backs DH Ray,  despite a great pitching performance by the Boars Travis Knight who went 5 innings pitched  with 3 hits 2 earned runs 1 base on balls and 7 strikeouts, Knight got a No decision for his effort.

Brandon Lucas got off to a rocky start giving up 4 runs in the 6th to Diamondbacks.  The Boars chipped back one of their own when center fielder PJ Dobbins ripped a fare ball over the right fielder for the Diamondbacks which rolled to the fence Dobbins who was on his way to 3rd was held as the Right fielder threw his hands up as if the ball was through the fence. The right fielder then made a play on the ball and picked it up alertly the 3rd base coach sent Dobbins home to score while the umpires ruled, it was scored a triple and an error.  The Boars trailed 6 to 3.

Lucas went back to work with the rain out rust now clearly in the past he retired the next 3 Diamonbacks  striking out the last batter he faced in the 7th, and the 8th in the 9th again the Diamondbacks went in order

The Boars trailed by 3 in the 7th but still kept trying to chip away to no avail. In the 8th the Boars added 1 more to draw within 2. Diamondbacks 6 Boars 4

The Boars came up in the bottom of the 9th Kenny Faulks led off with a walk Dobbins drew a base on balls Brandon Lucas hit a sharp ball and the Diamondbacks were poised to try for 2 but PJ Dobbins alertly saw it and went into 2nd like a mad man beating the throw and pulling the safe call. Travis Knight then hit a single scoring Faulks and the ever speedy Dobbins tying the game and the game was headed to the 10th.

Top of the 10th Lucas struck out lead off hitter Shortstop Robinson,  and 2nd baseman Grant Mink stopped a ball heading up the middle with a great back handed glove save and fired to first for the 2nd out.  Mink also got the 3rd out on a ground ball and the Boars coming back up in the 10th with momentum.

Bottom of the 10th new draft pick Levi Curby struck out, Matt Wilkinson drew a walk and Mike Flanagan walked. Both Flanagan and Wilkinson advanced on a past ball. Coty Hahn was walked to load the bases. Greg Pfeiffer who had been put in to hit in the  8th strode to to the plate with the infield drawn in and 1 out Greg went with 3 straight balls to 3-0 when the Diamondbacks pitcher through him a strike and he took full advantage of it getting the base hit with the game winning RBI in walk off fashion putting the Boars on top 7 to 6 in the 10th

Brandon Lucas picked up the win with 5 IP,  4 BB, 3 Hits, 4 Earned, 1 hit batsmen and  6 K's .

Grant Mink earns his 3rd defensive player of the game in 2017  with 4 PO, 1 on a bullet thrown by Boars catcher Meade Tabata to gun out a stolen base attempt,  5 assist one was the mentioned back hand glove save and throw out at first congratulations Grant

Offensive Player's of the Game is shared by 3 Boars this week, PJ Dobbins with a triple and the error to alertly run home, and the saving of the game by going into 2nd base very quickly to keep from being doubled at 2nd.  PJ went 2 for 3,with 3 runs scored 1 BB, and one 3b.

Travis Knight for his timely single to tie the game. Travis went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's 

And Greg Pfieffer who went 1 for 2 with the walk off single and game winning RBI
