The following Royals players were named to the MVABL All-Star Game: Jesus Velasquez III, Tim Peffley, Shawn Rudegeair
7/8/07: Seven Royals named to 2007 MVABL All-Star Game
8/26/07: 2007 MVABL Champions
Making their second appearance at the big dance in as many years the Royals felt this was their opportunity to cash in. Royals veteran and a cornerstone on the pitching staff, Jason Griffith was the scheduled starter. Griffith was looking for a different outcome over his last Championship start where a walk-off homerun ended the Royals comeback in last season’s winner-take-all finals. Griffith was coming off a 9-inning 3-hitter complete game victory against the Dayton Rangers in the League semi-finals when he got the nod from the Skipper for the start.
Playing behind their starter the Royals defense played at an unseen level. When Griffith wasn't controlling Astros hitters, his defense picked up outs on all but 1 ball that was just out of reach of the diving Royals Shortstop Brian Duffy, and not committing a single error en route to the 5-0 Victory!
This Royals Championship was a team effort all the way!! Every Royal did his part along the way throughout the season. After going 3-5 in the month of July, the Boys in Blue buckled down and got their focus back notching 5 straight victories through the month of August ,despite some injuries throughout the lineup, to secure the League Title.
In the playoffs veteran Brian Duffy (7-14/7 RBIs) and rookie Scott Falkowski (5-8/6 runs) led the offense. And off the hill their staff was tough as well. Duffy picked up the first win against the Kettering Outlaws help from another Royals Rookie, Kevin Reynolds who assisted with 3 scoreless innings to secure the Royals win. And veteran Jason Griffith capped off the League semi-finals and Sundays Championship with back-to-back complete games and only allowing 4 hits. |
9/24/06: Royals make first appearance in the MVABL Finals
| The Royals entered the playoffs as the number 2 seed and were able to advance to their first appearance in the league finals with wins over the Astros, Outlaws, and Attack Mules. In the finals they met up against the 2-time league champion Woodpeckers, but only needed to pick up one win over their formidable opponent as they suffered a first round loss. Royals flame thrower Nick Biron was on the hill for game 1, but the Woodpeckers matched his speed with power as they connected for 3 long balls. The deficit was too much for the Boys in Blue to recover from as they lost game 1 12-0. In the winner-take-all game 2, Royals veteran Jason Griffith looked to contain the deadly Woodpecker offense. Pitching was tough from both squads, but the Woodpeckers were able to pickup 3 runs over the first 5 innings. Down 3-0 entering the top half of the 6th, the Royals plated 4 runs of their own off an RBI single by Matt Haver and a 3-run HR off the bat of Ben Ailes to take the 4-3 lead. But the resilient Woodpeckers plated the tying run in the bottom of the 7th with a FC. The game would stay knotted at 4 through the 9th inning, when the Woodpeckers connected on a walk-off 2 run HR to end the Royals hopes of a league championship. The Royals did not finish on top that day, but they look to rebound in 2007 building off their first winning season, 17-10 overall, since joining the league. |
