Sunday May 5th the South Dayton Slammers and Dayton Cardinals met up at Bellbrook HS for a DH.

The home team Cardinals threatened in the bottom of the first inning by placing runners at second and third base with no outs.  But Slammers starter Jeffrey Patrick Beall struck out the next three batters to end the inning.  The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth inning.  Todd Barhorst led off the inning with a walk and was moved to second base on a SAC bunt by Rick Anderson. Todd took off for third base with Mark Barhorst up and was able to score on an errant throw to third base for the 1-0 lead.  Mark walked and came home on Garrett Wissman’s home run to center field.  The Slammers scored four runs the next inning on a two run double by Anderson, a run scoring double by Wissman and an RBI single by Jake Roberts.  That was all the scoring on the day as Beall went the distance, allowing 4 hits and striking out 13 for this third win of the season.

Game two the Slammers sent out Steve Bertles in his first ever Slammers’ start.  After a 3 up 3 down top of the first inning, he was given a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the inning. Daniel singled and stole second base and moved to third base on a wild pitch.  Brenden Jewsikow walked and stole second base and Daniel came home on the throw down.  Jewsikow scored later on a passed ball for the second run.  Anderson singled with one out and after he got out, Mark Barhorst courtesy ran for Anderson and moved to second base on a balk and to third base on a wild pitch.  After Wissman walked to put runners on the corners, he attempted to steal second base and got in a rundown long enough to allow Mark to score to make it 3-0.  In the bottom of the third inning, Daniel led off the inning with a long home run, his first of the season.  Todd single with one out and after two errors, Roberts was hit with the pitch with the bases loaded to make the score 5-0.  Next inning, Todd launched a two run home run for a 7-0 lead and Wissman smacked a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 8-0 lead.  The Slammers scored their ninth run next inning as Anderson singled in Daniel.  Bertles went the distance only facing 4 batters above the minimum.
