Carey gets 4th win on season

Carlisle High School, Carlisle Ohio July 14th 2019

The boars returned to Carlisle Ohio to battle with the Rangers on Sunday. The Boars Offense went to work by hitting back to back to back doubles from the top 3 Boars batters, Hall, Minner, and Carey each had a double as the Boars scored 2 runs in the 1st. The Rangers quickly matched that with 2 runs of their own and the game was knotted at 2.

Sully Minner scored the Boars 3rd run off a sac fly to left field from Gary North and the Boars led 3 to 2 in the 3rd inning. Beegle who now had composed himself denied the rangers runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings striking out 6 batters along the way.

But the 6th proved dangerous with the Rangers top of the lineup at the plate.  Nick Gilmore led off with a single and after a pop fly to 3rd for the 1st out and Ben Schooler walking.  A ground ball which usually spells the double play for the Boars turned costly as an unusual  error allowed all runners to be safe. Dominic Kuzujanakis struck a double and the Rangers had a 3 run lead. Joey Wilson came on and was able to retire 2 batters needed to stop the Rangers but the damage was done.

The Boars made the attempt to come back but the bats were still just off. Carey led off with a double and when Joey Wilson was hit by a pitch the runners were there. The final 2 hitters grounded out and the Rangers won 6 to 3.

Brandon Beegle took the loss pitching 5 1/3 with 6 K's, 4 BB, 1 HBP , 3 earned runs.

Zac Carey did manage Boars Offensive Player of the game going 3 for 3, with 1 RBI, and 1-2/B, 1 BB.

After a brief intermission with lunch provided by Nick Gilmore's family  who really, I cannot say enough about. Nicks dad cooked hot dogs on a hot July day and not just for the Rangers players, but for both teams, and the umpires. I cannot remember a game where I have not seen Nick without either his Dad, or his Grandmother or Grandfather. They have always been kind and respectful even when we were having not such great years. They always had considerate words of encouragement to say. Nick Gilmore and his family are what makes the MVABL a great place to play, it is family even though we are competitors we are all one family and we owe the Gilmore's our thanks for all they are, and do.

Game 2 saw the Boars going back as the Home team after Zac Carey now on the mound, retired the Rangers in order striking out 2.

The Boars bats woke up and woke up big, The Boars sent the lineup to the plate in the 1st scoring 7 times, Hall was walked, Minner singled, and Carey doubled driving in a run, Herold and North were both on when Brian Erbe launched a shot to left field landing on the softball field behind the baseball field and picking up hist 1st HR and 3 RBI's. Colin Minner singled and scored the final run in the frame when Brandon Beegle singled him home. and the Boars led 7 to 0.

Carey struck out 2 more in the 2nd as the Rangers were retired again. The Boars picked back up where the 1st had ended. Scoring 5 more runs in the 2nd. New Rookie Jacob Arthur picked up a double and an RBI his first hit of the day.

Carey in the 3rd again was striking out batters in pairs as the Rangers batters were sent down.  The Boars scratched a run across after Sully Minner doubled and was brought home by Zac Carey's 2nd double of the game driving in another to help his cause. Boars were leading after 3 innings by a score of 13 to 0.

In the Ranger 4th after a fly ball to Markus Hall at short, singles by Nick Gilmore and Pederson, and Ben Schooler netted a couple runs from a single by Domininc Kuzujanakis, and the Rangers had scored twice. Carey was able to get his 2 strikeouts his 7th and 8th on the day.

The Boars in the bottom the 4th quickly reclaimed the 2 runs and added a 3rd.  from a 2 Run RBI from Markus Hall. The Boars were still holding strong with the lead 16 to 2 over the Rangers.

Carey struck out the Rangers hitters in order in the 5th for his 11th on the day. The Boars had finished scoring on the day the 5th and 6th went by while the Rangers managed a run in the 6th and one in the 7th to draw the score to 16 to 4,  but Carey managed his 12th and 13th strike outs,  but on the 13th the ball scooted away from catcher Gary North allowing the runner on. With one out Nick Gilmore grounded to 3rd baseman Brian Erbe, breaking his bat, Erbe threw Gilmore out for the 2nd out,  when the runner on 2nd tried for 3rd Jimmy Herold,  playing 1st delivered the perfect throw and the 3rd out was recorded giving the boars the win.

Zac Carey took his 4th win on the season with 7 IP, 13 k's, 1 BB, 2 earned.

Zac Carey took Boars Offensive Player of the Game going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and 2 Doubles.

Boars Defensive Player of the Game Jimmy Herold for the 5 to 3 to 5  double play with a HM to Brian Erbe for the tag.
