Boars Return to Howell to take on Cardinals

Greve earns first win on season

Howell Field, Dayton Ohio July 21, 2019

The Wild Boars returned to Howell Field Sunday to meet the Cardinals for the 1st time this season. The Cardinals were home team in the game while the Boars still having members on vacation leave managed to get most of the infield in tact.

The visiting Boars managed 1 run in the 1st as lead off hitter Sean Johnson struck out but made it to first base when the 3rd strike scooted away from the Cardinals catcher.  Johnson quickly stole 2nd then swiped 3rd, he reached home on Zac Carey's infield batted ball.

Gary North retired the Cardinals with some help of a double play, after a BB and a K a ball hit to Boars SS Matt Seibert started the 6-4-3 double play.

The 2nd saw the Boars add 2 runs, Brian Erbe was walked and Matt Seibert got a base hit,  Colin Minner had an RBI sac fly to center. and Seibert came home on a W/P.  Boars were leading 3 to 0. The Cardinals went down in order after a strikeout and 2 ground balls.

Zac Carey led off the 3rd stole 2nd then went 3rd on a W/P to the back stop. He then scored on the single by Jimmy Herold the boars catcher.  The Cardinals put 2 runs up after back to back singles by Brendon and Matt Anderson who both scored. The Boars lead was cut to 2, but still led 4 to 2.

The Boars then added a run in the 4th from Colin Minner who moved up on the sac bunt by Jacob Cooper, J.R Nixon fresh from his trip around Europe drove Minner in with an RBI single.  Boars lead was 5 to 2. The Cardinals again put up a run off a double and score from Josh Chetkovitch.  and the Boars lead was again down to 2, 5 to 3. 

In the 5th Carey continued his hitting streak with another single and again a stolen base, again scoring on Jimmy Herolds 2nd RBI single on the day. Boars again pulled ahead by 3 6 to 3. While the Cardinals now were set to face relief pitcher Jacob Greve. Greve was a little shaky in the 5th bases were loaded but after a relaxing breath managed to get out of the inning without giving up a run. Greve in the 6th and 7th had relaxed and retired the Cardinals in order striking out the last 2 in the 7th. 

The Boars scored no runs in the 6th, and 1 in the 7th off the walk of Dylan Pletsch who stole 2nd and 3rd and was driven in by Carey.  The Score Boars 7 Cardinals 3.

 In the 8th both teams scored the final runs of the game The Boars added 2 in the top. North walked, and scored. Erbe was HBP , Colin Minner drove in a run with a short double, and Conner Morris had a sacrifice fly to left for the RBI. The Boars lead was 9 to 3. The Cardinals added 1 after a walk and an RBI single before the inning ended the Cardinals had again closed the gap.

Zac Carey was brought in to close the game after striking out the 1st batter, a single by the 2nd hitter Carey faced but a ground ball and another strikeout ended the game. The Boars winning 9 to 4.
