On Saturday September 14th the South Dayton Slammers met up against the Wild Boars in the MVALB championship series at Wright State University.

The home team Slammers jumped out to a 3-0 led after starter Jeff Beall held the Boars scoreless in the top of the first inning.  Daniel Barhorst led off with a triple and scored on an error as Todd Barhorst reached first base and Deane Grandfield reached second base.  Rick Anderson walked to load the bases and after a strikeout, Andrew Simones doubled knocking in two runs.  After a scoreless second inning, the Slammers went up 6-0 by scoring three times.  Todd walked and Anderson reached on an error for runners on first and second base.  Garrett Wissman came up and lined a triple to right center scoring two runs and he came home on a Mark Barhorst SAC fly.  The Boars scored twice in the top of the fourth inning but the Slammers got a run back as Tanner Lilly led off with a double.  His courtesy runner Jordan Flynn moved to third base on a SAC bunt by Grandfield and came home on Todd’s ground out.  The Boars made it 7-4 in the top of the fifth inning and added a run in the top of the seventh inning to draw closer at 7-5.  In the top of the eighth inning with one out, the Boars got a single, then after a strikeout, a ground rule double putting runners at second and third base.  The Boars leadoff batter then hit a grounder to Mark at shortstop who made good play to narrowly throw him out to end the inning.  The Slammers got a run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Grandfield ground out scoring Daniel.  The Boars got a 2 out single but that was it in the top of the ninth inning as Beall went the distance earning the 8-5 win.

In game two as visitors, the Slammers sent out veteran Mark Hadaya for the start.  The Slammers didn’t score in the top of the first inning but the Boars scored once for the 1-0 lead.  The Slammers tied the game in top of the second inning on a RBI ground out by Wissman but the Boars got a solo home run to take back the lead at 2-1 through two innings.  The Boars added on in the bottom of the third inning for the 3-1 lead but the Slammers bats would come alive in the top of the fourth inning as they scored 4 runs for the 5-3 lead.  Both teams scored one run in the fifth inning so the Slammers led 6-4 entering the top of the sixth inning.  The Slammers sent 11 hitters to the plate and scored 6 runs to take a 12-4 lead with the big hit being a bases clearing triple from Wissman.  The Boars got a run back in the bottom of the sixth inning but the Slammers came back and scored twice in the top of the seventh inning as Wissman had an RBI double.  The Boars scored once in the bottom of the seventh inning but the Slammers got that run back in the top of the eighth inning for the 15-6 lead and that is how game two ended as the Slammers won their 3rd consecutive championship.

The Slammers would like to thank all their supporters throughout the season and appreciate everyone who comes out to the games.  Thanks for a great 2019 season.
