GAME 1 BOX SCORE

EXPANDED STATS

Camden finished up the 2020 regular season in a bit way on Sunday as they rolled through two run rule victories over the North Dayton Nightmare.  The wins bring the Redlegs regular season record to 14-7, which earns them a 3 seed in the upcoming postseason.  The Redlegs and Rangers each finished the season at 14-7, but since the Rangers bested Camden in all three of their contests this year, the tie breaker goes to the Rangers.

Kevin Campbell continued to be a problem the Nightmare couldn’t solve.  After defeating the Nightmare earlier this season in a complete game effort (albeit with a month-long rain delay), Campbell again went the distance and this time he blanked the Nightmare over 5 innings.  He struck out 5 and allowed just 3 hits on the day.

The Redlegs scored early and often in this one.  In the 1st, Saige Micomonaco and Brad Malott each plated a run as Camden jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.  Seven more runs scored in the 2nd.  Micomonaco and Malott again delivered RBI base hits, this time joined by Brandon Howard who smacked a two-run double and Jared Bradley who added a two-run single.  Bradley drove in the 3rd of his 5 RBI in the 3rd inning and Jacob Robinson brought home a run to make the score 13-0 after 3.

Jesse Jones delivered an RBI base hit in the 4th, paired with another two-run single by Jared Bradley.

In the bottom of the 4th, Brad Malott may have saved the shutout when a Nightmare hitter hit a hard grounder right back up the middle.  Malott ranged behind 2nd and backhanded the ball on a dead sprint and made the jumping pirouette style throw to first in plenty of time to deliver the 1st out.  The next two hitters each singled, but Campbell ended the threat with a strikeout and a flyout to left.

Brandon Howard rounded out the day’s scoring by driving home a run in the 5th, which put Camden into run rule territory.

In the bottom of the 5th the Nightmare were able to get the leadoff man on base and over to 2nd with nobody out.  Campbell then struck out the next two batters and Cameron Svarda ended the game by gunning down the baserunner trying to steal 3rd.

GAME 2 BOX SCORE

Camden again poured on the offense in game two, again run ruling the Nightmare.  This time it took 6 innings but ended with a walk off three run blast by Saige Micomonaco.

Jesse Jones took the hill for Camden in this one and turned in a terrific outing.  Jones completed his first career complete game and was so close to his first career shutout, the Nightmare spoiled it in the 5th by scoring their lone run.  Jones would end the day allowing only 3 hits while piling up 11 strikeouts.

After the Nightmare ended the Redlegs bid for another strong first inning with a nice 5-4-3 double play, Camden responded with an 8-run 2nd.  Kevin Campbell and Mike Hartman each contributed 2-run singles.  Matt Morrison, Jacob Robinson, James Robinson, and Jesse Jones all added RBIs as well.  Jones also added an RBI in the 3rd to make it a 9-0 ballgame.

Kevin Campbell doubled to start the 4th and was later driven in by Matt Morrison to push the lead to 10-0.

The Nightmare then pushed a run across in the top of the 5th, but Camden responded with two more in the bottom half of the 5th.  James Robinson roped an RBI single and Kevin Campbell later drove in his 3rd run of the game.

Now leading 12-1 in the bottom of the 6th, Camden pushed for the walk off run rule victory.  Matt Morrison doubled to start the frame and was promptly knocked in on a single by Jacob Robinson.  Mike Hartman then singled which led to a 3-run walk off bomb by Saige Micomonaco

With the sweep, the Redlegs have earned the 3 seed in the playoffs and will take on the Wright Knights on Saturday, August 29th at Madison High School.  Game 1 will begin at 1:00pm.
