Heart break for Redleg's. Hall gets 100 Runs and 100 Hits

Rotary Park, Beavercreek Ohio Sunday June 19th, 2022, The Redleg’s came back to Rotary Park after just leaving there Tuesday night hoping to continue their winning streak currently at 3 games. The Wild Boars currently sitting 2nd in the MVABL standings had to turn around from a tough loss to the Dayton Rangers 2 weeks ago.

A great day for baseball between 2 teams that always play each other very, very well. The Redleg’s came ready as Matt Yates took the mound for the Wild Boars. Jacob Robinson laced a single but in trying stretch into a double did not figure on Dylan Bower of the Boars snagging off the first hop and firing a rocket to Jason Combs who relayed to Markus Hall to put the sliding Robinson out at 2nd. Jesse Jones reached on an error and after a Kyle Arrend pop out Mike Hartman got his RBI single. Hartman would be brought in by Joey Watson who ripped a double. Redleg’s would lead 2 to 0.

Markus Hall needed 1 run to get his 100th run scored in MVABL league play, wasted little time in doing it. Hall reached on an error advanced on hit from Thomas Troy and scored on a single by Dylan Bower. Bower reached 3rd but was stranded there as Jimmy Herold popped out. Boars trailed by 1.

Now the game went to the pitchers Jesse Jones and Matt Yates, both pitchers worked around hits and errors to keep the score in check. Markus Hall needing 1 hit for 100 hits for the MVABL got his 100th on his next at bat but with a, Redleg’s defense tightening up, only reaching 2nd before the Boars slowed again.

The Redleg’s struck again in the 7th Mike Hartman reached on a double off Brent Cox now on in relief of Matt Yates. Hartman moved around to 3rd and when a pitch from Cox got passed catcher Jimmy Herold Hartman attempted to go home. The ball however came back to Herold quickly who tossed it to Cox, trapping Hartman in “no mans land” Hartman retreated Cox decided to throw to 3rd but sailed it into left Hartman scored Redleg’s were on top 3 to 1.

It took the Boars 8 innings to get to Jones who was pitching well with great defense behind him. Jackson Forbes was sent in to pinch hit and drew a walk. The next 2 Boars batters popped out to left and short respectively. Matt Yates walked and that sent up the Boars top of the order who earned today, Jason Combs ripped a 2 out RBI single, Forbes would score. Markus Hall would follow Combs lacing a RBI scoring double pushing Yates across the plate, and tying the game at 3 runs each.

Andrew Dreier in his 2nd appearance for the Wild Boars took the mound. After a single and a walk Kyle Arrend hit a shot snagged by SS Jason Combs who took to 2nd himself and fired to Minner at 1st to get the 6U to 3 double play. Drier then struck out Hartman, and the Boars were coming up.

Bower led off with a grounder to short but turned on the jets and beat the throw by 2 steps. Herold got a single and runners were 1st and 2nd No outs. Sully Minner who is always atop the leader boards on team RBI’s and fresh off a 2-week vacation stepped in. On the 1st pitch from Evan Koogler, he squared but the ball bounced passed the catcher and the runners moved up on their own. The Redleg’s drew the infield in tight pulled the outfield close doing what they had to do. Minner laced a shot passed a diving Hartman Robinson at short couldn’t reach it and Bower scored for the walk off in the 9th.

In games like these you reflect over the course you took to get to that point. You feel great for your guys, but you also feel the disappointment for the friends you have on the other team. You both played a great game did what you could to help your team get to that point. One wins one doesn’t. But still 2 great teams playing in a great game.

Jason Combs and Dylan Bower will share Wild Boars Defensive Player of the Game, Both gave us plays when we needed them.

Wild Boars Offensive Player of the Game goes to Sully Minner only 1 for 4 but the biggest hit of the day in the 9th for the walk off.

Markus Hall gets and Honorable mention 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI, 100 hits and 100 runs.

Jason Combs as well gets an Honorable mention 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Andrew Dreier picks up the Win in his 2nd game1 inning pitched 1 K,

The Wild Boars will head to Howell next week for DH with the Knights at 1 and 4pm. Hope to see you next week.
