Cox takes Game 1 in shutout, Schulke pitches well in Game 2

Sunday July 31, 2022, Howell Field Dayton Ohio. The Wild Boars traveled to meet the Xenia Scouts in a double header to end July. Scoring was light as the Pitchers Dakota Reumann of the Scouts battled Brent Cox of the Wild Boars.

The Boars jumped out to a 2 to 0 lead in the as Dylan Bower and Sully Minner scored 1 run each in the first 2 innings. It would be all the Boars would score in the game, but it would turn out to be all they would need. Cox would face the minimum through 3 innings in the 4th frame the Scouts worked bases loaded after a strikeout, but a 2nd strikeout and a ground out to Nick Hundley at 3rd ended the Scouts threat.

Cox went the complete game winning by shutout allowing 3 hits, 0 runs and 11 Ks. It earned Brent Cox Boars Defensive Player of the Game in Game 1.

Boars Offensive Player of the Game was Jimmy Herold, The Boars Catcher was 1 for 2 with an RBI and HBP.

Game 2

Wound up being as opposite of a game as they come. Alex Schulke returned to the mound after a surgery and was spectacular. Holding the Wild Boars bats to just 1 un-earned run off 5 hits. Matt Yates laced out a double but an aggressive move to send Yates home resulted him being tagged out.

The Boars pulled to within 1 run in the 3rd as Jimmy Herold reached on an error and scored on a single by Ryan Griffis. Runs were unfortunately in short supply for the Boars today. The Boars hit the ball, but it was usually to a Scouts player just in the right position. Not taking anything away from the Scouts they came to play behind Schulke.

The Scouts added 3 runs in the 7th which was enough to put the game away 5 to 1 from the Boars. The Wild Boars slipped again in a double header with a split.

Jason Combs takes Boars Defensive Player of the game with 4 6-U and 2- 6 U, 6-3 double plays and 3 assist.

Ryan Griffis gets the Boars Offensive Player of the Game going 2 for 3

Matt Yates gets an honorable mention for his double and going home with a decent slide but just short.

The Wild Boars will be in action Tuesday night -vs- The Dayton Rangers at 7pm at Oak Grove Park in Centerville.
