EXPANDED STATS

The Redlegs won their 7th consecutive contest on Sunday, defeating the Wright Knights 16-11.

The game got off to an ominous start as the Knights immediately put two unearned runs on the board in the top of the 1st.  The damage could have been worse, but a couple of nice plays resulted in Camden extinguishing the inning without further injury.  Jesse Jones was able to record the first out by fielding a ground ball and catching the runner advancing from 2nd with a perfect throw to Mike Hartman at 3rd who was able to apply the tag just in time.  Later, Tyler Eaton made a heads up cut off on a ball heading for home to nail a runner advancing to 2nd.  Eaton then induced a grounder to 2nd to end the inning.

Cody Saraco-Polner manufactured a run in the bottom of the 3rd when he started the inning with a single and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Knights expanded their lead to 6-1 in the top of the 4th.

Camden’s offense, silent to this point, exploded in the bottom of the 4th for 7 runs giving them a 8-6 lead.  Chris Flaherty started the inning with a single before Tyler Eaton launched his 1st home run of the 2022 campaign.  Marshall Eippert then doubled, Matt Mattice singled and Eric Jameson walked to load the bases.  A balk then brought Eippert home.  James Robinson later singled with one out to re-load the bases, followed by a run scoring single by Jacob Robinson.  Jesse Jones then brought a run home with a sacrifice fly.  Kyle Arend then singled to re-load the bases, leading to an RBI base knock by Mike Hartman.

The Knights later tied things up at 8-8 in the top of the 7th.

The Redlegs offense answered again, putting up another 7 spot in the bottom half of the 7th.  Hartman, Flaherty, and Eaton all singled consecutively to load the bases with nobody out.  After a flyout, Marshall Eippert singled home a run.  Eric Jameson then reached on an error, leading to an RBI hit by Cody Saraco-Polner.  Camden was able to score a few runs on fielding errors before Kyle Arend ended the scoring with an RBI base hit.

The Knights tried to mount a comeback in the top of the 8th, scoring 3 times to cut their deficit to 15-11, but Camden brought on Jesse Jones who quickly thwarted the comeback.  Jones tossed the final 1 1/3 innings allowing no hits and a strikeout.

Camden pushed one more run across in the bottom of the 8th as Tyler Eaton walked and eventually scored on an error.

The Redlegs, now in 5th place with a 13-8 record, are within striking distance of moving up the leaderboard as only 2 games separate the 2-5 teams in the MVABL standings.  They will now enter a packed final two weekends of the season as they have their final 6 games in 7 days beginning with a split double header with the Mad River Machine and South Dayton Slammers on Sunday.  The Redlegs will take on the Machine at noon at Carroll High School before traveling to Bellbrook High School to take on the Slammers at 3:30pm.
