Boars win a close contest with the Wolves

1 run separation the whole game in a back and forth game

Carlisle Ohio, Sunday August 27th.

The Wild Boars playing at home on a neutral site against the Dayton Wolves. Andrew Dreier went to the mound for the start his last in 2023 for the Boars but it was a big game. Dreier was able to strike out Daniel Barhorst but gave up the base hit to Todd Barhorst then 2 balls in the air that were caught ended the Wolves 1st. The Boars lead off Dylan Bower laced a single to centerfield and moved up on Micah Stewarts single and came home on an un-characteristic drop in center field.  The Boars were up 1 to 0 after 1 complete.

The Wolves wasted little time in tying the game. Sean Phillips shot a single into right center, and was brought home by Joe Kirby, Wolves had runners on in scoring when Daniel Barhorst flew out to right for the 3rd out. Matt Pfeffer was there to pitch as well for the Wolves closing out the 2nd on the Boars by a fly out a, BB, a lineout to left and a K.

The Wolves 3rd brought up Todd Barhorst again and again got a single but this time he scored off a SAC fly by Mike Barhorst, but Sean Phillips was tagged on a caught stealing for the 3rd out as he retreated to 1st base. The Wolves lead would be short lived as the Boars came back up. Dylan Bower hit another single, He would advance to 3rd on a Sid Srinivasan single, Aaron Holmes would single as well both Bower and Sid would score for the Boars to retake the lead 3 to 2 before Pfeffer would strike out Evans and Brandon Bower.

The Wolves never just go away as they kept at it and yet again, we were tied in the 4th, Joe Kirby got a single for the Wolves and Mark Barhorst struck out. Austin McFaddin pulled a BB and stole 2nd, Daniel Barhorst hit a single to right scoring Kirby but as McFaddin trying for home was shut down by Srinivasan in right field, who threw a ball on a line to Kyle Evans who applied the tag for the 2nd out. Todd Barhorst then flew out to left field for the 3rd out. With the game tied at 3 Pfeffer retired the Boars in 3 batters with 2 fly balls and a strikeout.

Brent Cox came in the 5th and after a BB to catcher Garrett Wissman a Ground out and 2 Ks sent the Boars back to bat in the 5th. Joe Kirby was in for the Wolves in the tie game and issued a walk to Bower but caught him leaning just a tad- to far as Sean Phillips threw to 2nd and Bower was called out.  2 flyballs later the Boars were back in the field.

The 6th was copy of the previous inning for the Wolves as Cox walked, the leadoff batter but then struck out the next 3 Wolves hitters in order.  Jacob Greve led off the 6th for the Boars and flew out to second base, Kyle Evans walked, Evans moved to 3rd on Brandon Bowers hit a shot right down the line called fare and pulled in with a double. The Wolves drew the infield in, Ryan Earley chopped a ball to 2nd and the Throw was just high home as Jacob Greve running for Evans (catcher) got under the tag to put the Boars back up 4 to 3.

The 7th for the Wolves Todd Barhorst led off with a ground out, Garrett Wissman hit another single, a Strikeout and a ground out to short ended the game and the Boars won 4 to 3.

Brent Cox took the Win 3 innings pitched 0 runs 5 Ks.

Andrew Dreier 4 innings 3 runs, 2 Ks

Sid Srinivasan RF took Boars Defensive Player of the Gam for a strike from the Right field home to save a run which was needed today.

Dylan Bower Takes Boars Offensive Paler of the Game, 2 for 2 with 2 Runs, 1 BB.

 

The Boars are in action on Thursday Night in Dayton at Howell Field as they take on the Rangers at 6pm, as the MVABL season winds down and teams make a playoff push come out and see the guys on the field in action this week.
