Birds break tie in 7th, Pull away in Game 2

Orioles Sweep Doubleheader v Grizzlies

Prior the season the Orioles and Grizzlies played a scrimmage that saw a blowout go the Orioles way. The Grizzlies however, have made several key additions to the original roster and gave the Orioles quite a challenge.

Game 1: Orioles 13 - Grizzlies 12

The Grizzlies jumped out early in the top of the 1st by pushing 1 run across but the Orioles would score 2 in the bottom half. This back and forth affair would continue for the entire game. A lot of the action would take place in a wild 3rd inning.

It started with the Grizzlies scoring 5 times in the top half in part from a 3-run bomb by Jack Mackenzie. The Orioles now trailed 8-2 but would rally for 10 runs in the inning to take back the lead. Coach Nathan Pfeiffer would drive in 3 runs in his 2 AB's in the inning.

The Grizzlies would not go away though as they would tally 2 more in the 4th and another in the 6th. The battling birds then turned to Nick Antonides for the save staked to a 1 run lead in the final inning 12-11. Unfortunately, after a few quick outs the game tying run would score on a 2-out error and the game headed to the bottom half of the final inning tied 12-12.

The top of the Orioles order would not get it started immediately but Nick Antonides would step to the plate with 2 outs and single to put the winning run on. Noah Baer would pinch run for Nick and red-hot rookie Brady Klein would step up and rocket a double to right which scored the winning run all the way from 1st.

4 Orioles players would have multi-hit games as the offense stepped up big to match the Grizzlies power hitters.

Game 2: Orioles 12 - Grizzlies 3

Game 2 would not be nearly as dramatic as the Orioles pitching would step up in a big way. Rookie Kyle Heath took the mound in his league debut and throw 3 innings of 1 run ball as the Orioles jumped out to a lead in the 3rd and would never look back. Jackson Lightcap would then come in (fresh off a big 2 -run double) and throw 2 innings of hitless baseball himself. Finally, Vinny Sarno pitched the final frame but gave up a few runs as the walks would come back to bite him.

The offense again was very strong to support the excellent pitching performance in game 2. John Rosenmayer would smack 2 doubles and drive in 2 runs and Nick Antonides would drive in 3 himself. The last of the Orioles rookies - Andy Wargo- would also get his first career hit despite hitting the ball hard all season.

The Orioles (3-2) now look to keep the winning streak alive against the vaunted Wolves (5-0) next Sunday in a Doubleheader at Howell Field.
