EXPANDED STATS

In game 1 of the July 16th double header against the Wild Boars, the Redlegs were part of a 1-0 game for the 2nd time this season.  Previously on the losing end against the South Dayton Slammers back in June, this time they would prevail in walk off fashion.  Before this season, the Redlegs had never been on either end of a 1-0 game.

Aaron Carmack turned in another great outing as he outdueled Joseph Wilson of the Boars to earn the win.  Carmack went the distance, tossing all 7 innings allowing only 5 hits while striking out 5 Boars batters.  It was also his 2nd career complete game shutout.

Carmack had some noteworthy defense behind him as the Redlegs backed him up with solid defense all day long.  In the 2nd inning, Matt Redman ranged deep to his left at 2nd base and fielded a grounder at the edge of the outfield grass before performing a perfect pirouette and throw to get the runner by a step, which ended up helping to strand two runners in the inning.  Kyle Arend made a great sliding catch near the foul line to take a hit away from Zach Carroll in left field in the 3rd.  Later in the top of the 7th with 2 outs, Mike Hartman charged in on a slow grounder and made the barehanded pick and running throw to nail Joe Cantrell and prevent any possible rally.

With the offense quiet for most of the game, James Robinson sparked the rally that eventually led to the win.  James singled with one out and Ryan Gross walked moving James up to 2nd.  Matt Redman then hit a line drive to centerfield and Robinson was able to turn on the burners and slide into home, beating the throw and sealing off the victory.

Game 2 turned out to be a close game as well, but in a different way.  Rather than runs coming at a premium, this one turned into an offensive shootout as the teams combined for 26 hits and 23 runs.

The Redlegs looked primed to sweep the double header as they jumped ahead 7-2 after the first 4 innings.  In the 2nd Mike Hartman started the inning with a triple and then scored on a passed ball.  Adam Parks and James Robinson then both worked walks followed by an RBI single by Ryan Gross and a 2-run single by Matt Redman.  They then scored 2 ore in the top of the 3rd on a 2 out rally started by a single by Ryan Gross and a walk by Matt Redman.  Matt Morrison then doubled home both runs to give the Redlegs a 6-0 advantage.

The Boars then chipped away in the bottom of the 3rd, plating 2 runs highlighted by a solo home run from Billy Sweatt

The Redlegs got one back in the top of the 4th when Adam Parks hit a sacrifice fly to score Matt Mattice who had singled earlier in the inning.

However, that’s when the wheels fell off.  The Wild Boars roared to life and scored 11 runs in the final 2 frames to take a commanding 13-7 lead.  The Redlegs were able to start a rally in the 7th, highlighted by a 2-run single by Brandon Howard, but otherwise the Boars were able to stave off the comeback and hold on for the victory.
