Belmont High School Dayton, Ohio.

The rain fell for most of game 1 as the visiting Cardinals came to Belmont High School to take on the Boars. It was somber day as The Boars bid a final farewell to 2017 Team  MVP Meade Tabata, Tabata called up from the waiting list in 2015 has been on the Boars since the beginning and yes it was rough at times. Meade is re-posting to Hawaii his home state so though we are sad he is leaving we are glad he is going home.

Rookie Dylan Pletsch took to the mound on the overcast day and retired the Cardinals in order while the Boars managed to get a runner to 3rd before being retired. Pletsch again retired the side in the top of the 2nd with a fly ball to right and 2 K's.  The Boars then struck first when Jimmy Herold singled and Travis Knight drew a  walk,  Jordan Overcash also walked,  then Boars shortstop Markus Hall singled driving in 2 runs. Boars led 2-0 after, 2 complete.

Pletsch hit a batter in the 3rd after striking out his 5th batter and got defensive help from Sully Minner on the 3-1 put out, and Hall on the 6-3 put out. The Boars struck hard and fast in the 3rd scoring 6 runs after Thomas Troy doubled and was driven in by Nick Stacy, Minner was HBP and was forced out on a 4-6 put out off the bat of Dave Pruim. Pruim reached on the fielders choice. Pruim, Herold  both scored when Jordan Overcash Doubled.   Travis Knight scored after walks issued to Hall and Tabata and Dylan Pletsch was walked scoring Knight. The Boars came away with 6 and led 8-0.

In the 4th Pletsch gave BB and a Fielders choice allowed the 3rd base runner to reach after the walk. The base runner was retired at 2nd. Pletsch got a flyout and another K raising the total to 6. The Boars put 3 more on the board after Walks to Stacy and Pruim brought Jimmy Herold to the plate and he hit it, Clearing the right center-field  fence for a 3 run home run extending the Boars lead to 11 - 0.

In the 5th the Pletsch went back to work and struck out the side. When the Boars put 4 more on the board the game was out of reach for the Cards and Pletsch picked up the win and the No Hitter the 3rd Boars pitcher to pick one up he joins Brandon Lucas and Travis Knight for the top pitching honors for the rookie pitcher. As the Cards fall to the Boars 15-0.

In the 2nd game the Boars sent Nick Stacy to the Hill to battle the Cardinals. The Visiting Boars struck in the first when Hall hit a single stole 2nd and scored on a Fielders choice by Dylan Pletsch.  Stacy retired the first batter with a K before giving up a double.  when the base runner tried to take 3rd catcher Jimmy Herold threw him out. some great defensive plays by the Boars infield prevented any runs from crossing and the lead was Boars 1 Cardinals 0

The Boars went down in the 2nd without much of an argument only Jimmy Herold reached first base with a single, and the Cardinals Marcus Medina homered to left tying the game 1 to 1.

In the top of the 3rd Stacy got the help he needed from his team, Overcash popped out to right but Markus Hall turned on a pitch a drove it over the right center-field fence for first home run of the year, later in the at bat Tabata, Pletsch and Stacy all crossed the plate in the inning, and the Boars lead was 5 to 1. The Cards in the bottom of the 3rd managed a couple base-runners and a couple hits and an uncharacteristic error by Thomas Troy the Boars Rookie second baseman. And at the end of 3 Boars lead was still 5 to 1.

In the 4th the Boars went down 1,2,3 as they worked over the Cardinals second baseman. and the Cardinals added 2 more runs off back to back doubles, then Stacy righted the ship and struck the final 2 batters Boars lead was cut 5 to 3.

But the Boars responded with 2 of their own in the 5th when lead off hitter Markus Hall took a ball to the gap and wound up standing on third with a triple leaving him a double short of the cycle. He scored on Meade Tabata's 2nd hit of the day, while Tabata scored off the single of Thomas Troy . When the Cardinals went down in order from the arm of Travis Knight brought in to close it out for Nick Stacy. Knight managed to induce a grounder to first baseman Sully Minner who took it himself and Knight then struck out the next 2 batters.  Boars lead after 5 was still 7 to 3.

After a ground out and a strike out Jordan Overcash singled bringing Markus Hall up for his attempt for a double and the complete cycle, but it was not meant to be as he popped out to right field. The Cardinals put up one in the 6th to close to 3 runs but that was all as the Boars still led 7 to 4 going into the 7th.

The Boars Catcher Meade Tabata in his final at bat singled and advanced as far as 2nd but the Boars then went down in the top half of the 7th. The Cardinals last at bat saw a Strike out from the lead off the 7th combined from Stacy and Knight then a ground out to 2nd and the final out of the inning went to Jordan Overcash creeping on the grass to flip to Minner and the Boars took both games.

Stacy got the win with 4 innings pitched 4 K's with 3 earned and Knight picks up his 2nd save on the year with 3 innings 3 K's 1 earned run

The Boars next week travel to Howell field to take on the Slammers at 1pm
