The Redlegs took the season series from the first place Machine with their 8-3 victory on Thursday night (July 5th). 

Matt Redman made his first start of the 2018 season and was simply outstanding against a Machine team that seems to score at will regardless of opponent.  Redman tossed the first five innings and allowed 7 hits and 3 earned runs while picking up 1 strikeout in his 2nd win of the season. 

The Machine dew first blood in the top of the 1st inning when Brady Hangen greeted Redman with a 2-run bomb over the right field fence. 

RBI machine Mike Hartman got the Redlegs on the board in the bottom half of the 1st by sending a run scoring double into the right center gap, bringing the score to 2-1. 

Paul Wilson doubled in a run for the Machine in the top of the 3rd, extending their lead to 3-1. 

Redman got some defensive help from the left side of the field in the top of the 4th.  With a runner at 2nd and no one out, Mike Hartman fielded a grounder at 3rd and pump faked his throw to first.  This got the runner at 2nd to commit just enough for him to turn and fire a perfect throw to Brandon Howard who applied the tag and erased the lead runner.  The next batter laced a single out into left field and the runner at 1st decided to try and move up to 3rd.  Saige Micomonaco had other ideas as he sped to the rolling ball, collected and fired a strike to Hartman at 3rd who was able to easily apply the tag and erase another lead runner. 

The Redlegs then broke it open in the bottom half of the 4th.  Kyle Arend walked to start the inning and Mike Hartman followed with a single to put two runners on, but Madlinger was able to induce a ground ball double play that looked like it might kill the rally.  Saige Micomonaco then walked before Brandon Howard launched his 2nd homerun off of Madlinger in as many games, this one a towering blast over the left field fence.  The two-out rally continued when Ryan Gross singled and scored on a triple by Matt Redman. 

After Redman helped himself out with the RBI triple, he made a beautiful pick off move to 1st to end the inning in the top of the 5th as the 5-3 lead was preserved. 

Aaron Carmack then came on in an uncharacteristic save chance and he turned in his normal level of production.  He tossed the final two frames and allowed only 1 hitter to reach base, picking up the save. 

The Redlegs added a little insurance in the top of the 7th when Brandon Howard, Ryan Gross, and Adam Parks all singled to load the bases with no one out.  After a strike out, Matt Morrison delivered a sacrifice fly before Jacob Robinson cleared the bases with a 2-run triple.

The Redlegs have now won 7 of their last 8 games and will look to keep the momentum going on Sunday in a 9-inning affair with the Wright Knights.
