Smith, Knight, Lucas, and Adkins Nab Top Awards

Smith takes team MVP Honors by 2 votes

The Wild Boars held its final end of year get together in November to announce the final winners of the team awards.

Max Anderson ran away with Hitting Title Batting  .525 at the end of the year and never falling below .500 unfortunately Max will be returning to his home in Minnesota and will not be back with the team next season. Good Luck Max in all you do.

Doug Adkins Took over this years Gold Glove Award,  Doug Played Center field. His hard work and dedication and strong arm cut down runners trying to advance and earned him a trip to the league All Star game, Doug was also on the list  for MVP award and Doug will receive his choice of any custom glove made to his specified order and   personalized to his specification.  Doug replaced Grant Mink who was the 2015 Gold Glove Winner and we are pleased to announce Doug will be returning in 2017.

Top Pitcher Award goes to Travis Knight, He replaces Dexter Poole was the 2015 winner. Travis won 2 games this season and with a No Hitter against the Stars and a shutout through 6 complete innings against last years League Champions The Rangers. Travis did rely on his main competition for the award Brandon Lucas who came in for the save. Travis amassed 52 strikeouts and 2 complete games. We will have Travis back on the mound next season.

The 2016 Rookie of the Year award went to Brandon Lucas, Brandon also took Top Draft Pick Award from the MVABL Brandon led all full time Boars rookie contenders by hitting .383. On the Mound Brandon won 2 games and had 1 save and managed 57 strike outs with a 6.19 era Brandon was the work horse this year on the pitchers mound and we hope to add to the pitching rotation with free agency and draft picks, Brandon replaced Tyler Klepach who won last years ROY award. We look forward to Brandon returning in 2017 and being a vital part of the Boars pitching rotation. Brandon will awarded a Team Jacket and sponsors will cover his 2017 league fees congratulations Brandon.

Most Valuable Players nominees for 2016 were Brandon Lucas, Doug Adkins, Travis Knight, Zach Carroll, Casey Smith and Meade Tabata, Our 2015 MVP winner was Travis Knight.  The 2016 Most Valuable Player award went to Casey Smith, Casey in his second season improved on his hitting and was in a tightly contested hitting  battle, to the last week of the season with Max Anderson. Casey hit .462 and was recognized as being one of the most improved players by the MVABL Coaches in 2016 Casey in the field made plays look tougher than they were with his dynamic sports diving ability. We congratulate Casey Smith who will pick up the Team Jacket for 2016 and sponsors will cover his fees as we look forward to his leadership on the field in 2017.

Our final award is a coaches award and goes to the player who plays through adversity and pains and still gives it his all he leaves it all on the field and has nothing left in his tank but still goes out and plays the game at his best. Last years Iron Man award winner was Justin Walden and this year he replaced with an even tougher candidate Zach Carroll, Zach joined are team late through the season but brought a leadership veteran presence and then things clicked we started winning. Zach even through most of the season was bothered by back injury he still gave it his all winning 2 games on the mound. Zach's leadership was evident from the beginning and he never stopped he hit .417 and was usually on base with a double. he also drove in runs and was instrumental in the come from behind win against the Stars and the Royals both games he pitched the team on to victory Congratulations Zach Carroll 2016 Iron Man Player of the Boars

Lucas, Nordin in top Draft Pick Class of 2016

The Boars found out today from league officials that Brandon Lucas became the Top Draft Pick in this years class of draftees. Brandon who was one of the Boars top Pitchers and lead off for most of the season and who's stats where best among the top Draft picks and read as follows,

 The 2016 overall number one draft pick led all draft pick players in batting average (.383), hits (18), stolen bases (9) and triples (2). Lucas also picked up 2 wins on the mound, leading all draft picks in innings pitched and strikeouts and earned 1 save in as many attempts.

Rounding out the top 5 was Dan Nordin who stepped in and stepped up as catcher when The Boars primary catcher was deployed and his back up became injured. Dan who's favorite tag line was Suns out Guns Out with his classic arms out managed to gun down 4 base stealing attempts 1 in the playoffs. and hit the game tying double in the Boars Stars Battle at Belmont and scored the walk off run that won the game. 

Top 5 Final Ranking: 1. Brandon Lucas (Wild Boars) 89; 2. Jared Rex (Knights) 86; 3. Greg Pfeiffer (Redlegs) 67; 4. Tyler Bundy (Machine) 63; 5. Dan Nordin (Wild Boars) 61.

Boars come from behind in 7th

Boars rally in 7th for 6th win

The Stars tried their best to align for that first win of the season at Belmont High School in the late game on Sunday against the Wild Boars. But it was not to be as they just came up short unable to stop a late rally by the Boars in the bottom of the 7th. Pitcher Coty Hahn pitched well enough following on the heels of Jack Washburn  who pitched an excellent first game but came away with the loss.

The Stars struck early off pitcher Zephrey Merchant by getting 3 runs in the 1st off hits by John Rutherford and Ron Sheppard and a walk issued by Merchant to Ryan Scanlan When Jeremy Liddy drove in 3 with a Double. The Boars countered with 2 of their own after Zach Carroll doubled Coy Chase still swinging a hot bat drove in Carroll and 1st Baseman Joe Cantrell hit an rbi single to left. Both Merchant and Hahn held tough and went scoreless in the 2nd despite giving up a couple hits the defense on both sides held and retired each other. 

In the top of the 3rd the Stars Austin Suddith a new addition hit a single followed by Ron Sheppard. Stars Coach Chris Campbell was retired and Jeremy Liddy was struck out Coty Hahn hit an rbi single but a play at the plate when Ron Sheppard ran into Dan Nordin who had just caught the ball Nordin was ran into and Sheppard was ejected But Suddith had scored.

In the bottom of the 3rd the Boars came away with 3 and the lead for the first time in the game, Adkins doubled and scored on Merchants single Coy hit a single Cantrell walked Travis Denkenberger hit into a fielders choice but beat the throw on the double play attempt and scored on Dan Nordins single. 

The lead however was short lived when in the top of the 4th the Stars pitcher from game 1 Jack Baby Giraffe Washburn was walked and a failed pick off attempt from Merchant let Washburn go to 2nd, Washburn scored when John Rutherford hit a single and after a couple wild pitches and a passed ball allowed 3 other runs to come in The Stars led 8 to 5.

In the bottom half of the 4th Adkins and Merchant again hooked up with a single and a double from Merchant to score a run in the 4th score 8 to 6.

Zach Carroll was brought in to stop the Stars but a fielding error in left allowed  the Stars to add 2 more in the top of the 5th and they were holding strong behind Coty Hahn, after a double by Liddy who scored on the error in left on a hit by Nate Harewood. Harewood who also scored after a double by John Rutherford. Carroll then got Ryan Scanlin to fly out to Adkins in Center score 10 to 6

 In the bottom of the 5th the Boars began chipping away Joe Cantrell sliced a line drive into the gap at left center and went into second standing up, after a balk by Hahn, Cantrell went to 3rd and scored on an rbi single by Trent Sheaf. Sheaf was left on base score 10 to 7

 Carroll had now come into his stride and kept the Stars scoreless in both the top halves of the 6th and the 7th allowing the Boars to work at picking apart the lead.

In the bottom of the 6th Keinon Smith hit a single as did Zach Carroll his 3rd hit of the day both scored on the 2nd double off the bat of Zephrey Merchant who was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 5 rbi's score was now 10 to 9.

The Boars headed into the bottom of the 7th trailing by 1 and the bottom of the order due up Travis Denkenberger beat out an infield hit and scored to tie the game when Dan Nordin brought the guns out when the sun came out and launched a massive hit to left that bounced over the fence for a ground rule double. Nordin scored when Trent Sheaf lined a walk off single to the outfield and sealed the win in come from behind fashion.

Carroll picked up his 2nd win of the season and is vying for team honors with Lucas and Knight.

Defensive player of the Game goes to Doug Adkins for chasing down some short pop fly balls and ending Stars rally's 

Offensive players of the Game Zach Carroll 2nd game in a row 3 for 4 with 1 double 1 stolen base. Zephrey Merchant 3 for 4 with 5 rbi's 2 doubles 1 stolen base, Trent Sheaf 3 for 4 with 1 double and a walk off rbi single that sealed the win his 2nd of 2 rbi's on the day.

 

Stars Shine but cannot stop Boars Rally

Lucas Picks up complete game and 2nd win

The Stars were hot as they came into Boars field Sunday to take on the Wild Boars in a double header at Belmont High School home of the Boars. The Boars struck first in the Top of the 3rd with 3 runs led by a hit Keinan Smith and followed by Boars All Star Zach Carroll and then a double by All Star  Doug Adkins, Adkins later scored on an RBI single by Zephrey Merchant. The Boars were threatening more with bases loaded but a steal attempt went wrong and the Stars managed to stop the Boars there. 

The Stars countered with 2 of their own in the home part of the 3rd when catcher Dan Nordin sailed a pick off attempt into left field allowing 2 unearned runs to score.The Boars added 1 run in the top of the 5th and  Lucas was steady as always as he continued unshaken by the mistake in the 3rd retiring the Stars in the 4th and the side in order in the 5th. The lead was lost to the Stars in the 6th by a walk to SS Ryan Scanlan and a hit by Nobu Asai, Ron Sheppard and Chris Campbell each got hits and later scored for a total of 4 runs. Lucas then Struck out Liddy but lost a pitch and hit Coty Hahn and walked Pitcher Jack Washburn Before Striking out Nate Harewood.

Zach Carrol led off the 7th with a double and scored when Doug Adkins hit his second double of the day Merchant then popped up to left field but was too shallow to advance Adkins. Chase Coy then doubled to score Adkins and tie the game at 6. Coy was advanced to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt by 1st baseman Joe Cantrell and Dan Nordin then hit him in with a single. Nordin went to 2nd on a passed ball and took 3rd on a stolen base and scored on a single by Travis Denkenberger, Denkenberger stole 2nd and was sent home to try to score but was called out after a base hit by Keinon Smith and  a relay throw to home was right on target.

Lucas went back to the hill to finish the game with a 2 run lead, he got John Rutherford to pop out to Trent Sheaf in right field and Ryan Scanlan to pop up on a hard charge by Center Fielder Doug Adkins and finished it with a strike out on Asai his 10th of the game.

Lucas earns his 2nd win of the season a Boars record and had 10 strikeouts and 1 save on the season and is Defensive Player of the game. 

Doug Adkins was Offensive player of the game along with Chase Coy, Adkins went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's and 3 Runs and 2 Doubles, and Coy went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI's 1 run and 1 double.

The Boars then went on to play the Stars in game 2 of the Double header. 

 

Knight Shines under the Lights at Action Sports

Boars win close one over Rangers 4 to 3

The Boars went to Action Sports tonight to take on the Rangers the Boars came away with a 4 to 3 victory over the 2nd place Rangers.  Brandon Lucas started the scoring in the 3rd after getting on first from a fielders choice that got by Rangers  1st baseman Brandon went to second then Stole 3rd then came in on a base hit by Max Anderson Boars Shortstop.


In the bottom of the 4th inning Travis Knight started the hitting with a double and scored with a double and RBI from Zach Carroll, Carroll, scored on a double and RBI from Joe Cantrell, Cantrell scored the final and winning run on a RBI double from Chase Coy.

Travis was working on a shutout through 6.On short rest after he he had thrown 2 innings in 2, games picking up the save against the Royals. After giving up a hit to Start the 7th to Nic Gilmore. Then after walking the next 2 batters to load the bases, a long fly ball from Joe Becker was ran down by Center-fielder Doug Adkins, Gilmore tagged and scored, Knight then walked the next 2 batters and bringing in the 2nd run of the game .Knight was then lifted after 6 1/3 inning  with 9 strikeouts. Brandon Lucas was brought in on short rest Lucas struck out the first batter still with bases loaded walked the next batter on a marginal call that could of went either way. Lucas then struck out the last batter picking up the save and giving Knight the win his 2nd of the season.

Next up for the Boars return to Belmont to host the Slammers on Sunday July 31. Good luck Boars
