Knight gets 3rd win of season

Howell Field, Dayton Ohio.

Travis Knight (unrecognizable) with out the Beard picks up his 3rd win on the season as the Wild Boars, best last years win totals by 2 to finish the regular season at 12 and 13 at just under .500 and in 5th place in the league, both team highs for the Franchise.

2018 watched the Boars season go up and down and came with both highs and lows. it saw as the Boars were able to put up a 5 game winning streak, and watched as last years team MVP winner of 2nd All MVABL team Catcher Meade Tabata had to leave the team as he was re-posted.

Thomas Troy and Jimmy Herold were locked in a tightly contested home run battle,  when the new kid on the block Dylan Pletsch joined in and made it a 3 man race for Home Derby honors.

Team Gold Glove winner from 2017 Markus Hall was challenged by Thomas Troy and Dylan Pletsch for the 2018 honors.

Pletsch led the Pitching staff with 4 wins and Travis Knight stepped up with the magic beard and pulled out 2 saves and 3 wins on the season. The Boars have turned a corner and have  improved as they have played competitive this season and lost a couple close games this year. They hope to continue to improve for the 2019 season.

The Boars were able to win against the Redlegs in game 1 Sunday, Travis Knight picked up win #3 with a complete game 7 innings with 5 K's. and watched as Brandon Lucas took POG for game 1 going 3 for 3.

Defensive POG went to Jimmy Herold for the catcher.

Game 2 saw the Boars make a couple of fielding errors that allowed the Redlegs to continue hitting, and against a good hitting team eventually that is a problem as the Wild Boars fall to the Redlegs 8 to 2.

Offensive POG game 2 Jimmy Herold was 2 for 3 with 1 RS

Defensive POG Dylan Pletsch in Centerfield.

These same 2 clubs square off next Saturday at Middletown Madison for round 1 of the MVABL playoffs hope to see you there.

Boars big inning in 1st takes game away from Redlegs

AIA, Xenia Ohio August 14th 2018,

The Redlegs traveled up and over to Xenia, Ohio to battle the Wild Boars at AIA. The Boars looking to gain some momentum with 3 games left in the regular season and coming off a time limit loss 15 to 14 to the Royals on Sunday.  The Boars sent Dylan Pletsch to the mound and he did not let his team down, Striking out the 1st and 4th batters he faced a long fly ball grabbed by center fielder Dave Pruim for the 2nd out, and a walk to the speedy Kyle Arrend.  The Redlegs went down without a run.

The Boars after Pletsch flew out to right, Markus Hall was walked, as was Jimmy Herold and Thomas Troy hit a single scoring Hall. Gary North then struck out for the 2nd out, and a walk to Sully Minner brought Dave Pruim to the plate. Pruim wasted little time hitting the 2nd pitch for a single and driving in a run. Jordan Overcash walked and JR Nixon drove in Minner and Pruim.  Roster addition Tyler Pennington added a double to his stats and drove in Overcash and Nixon.  After the Boars loaded the bases with a walk, and a single, Jimmy Herold flew out to center and the Boars were done in the 1st inning,  but had scored 7 runs to lead 7 to 0.

Pletsch went back to work striking out his 3rd strikeout of the game and got James Robinson and Kevin Campbell to fly out to Pruim in center retiring the Redlegs in order. Luke Campbell had also settled down and retired the Boars hitters in order. after 2 completed Boars 7 Redlegs 0.

In the 3rd Pletsch hit Tim Sullivan, who scored later after a hit and a walk, Pletsch got Jacob Robinson to fly out to Pruim, Kyle Arrend grounded to 1st, and Pletsch struck out the big bat of Joey Watson for his 4th K.  But the Redlegs managed to get a run across and the score now Boars 7 Redlegs 1. The Boars went down again in order after liner snagged by the Shortstop and  a strikeout to Overcash, and J R Nixon hit 6 to 3. for the 3rd out.

Top of the 4th Pletsch struck out Brandon Howard, for his 5th and a fly out to Sully Minner at 1st, when  Dylan got his 6th K from Kevin Campbell.

The Boars batting in the bottom of the 4th Tyler Pennington  added his 2nd hit of the game while  Brandon Lucas got his 1st hit of the game. Pennington scored when Dylan Pletsch hit a single moving Lucas to 3rd. Pletsch stole 2nd and and Jimmy Herold drove in Lucas and Pletsch with a 1 out 2 RBI single, Thomas Troy added another single to his night before the Boars were retired with a strike out and a ground out but they had scored 3 more and led 10 to 1.

In the top of the 5th after a walk issued  to Tim Sullivan, this time with 4 balls,   Mike Hartman  was Pletsch's 7th K on the night.  But after a HBP to  Adam Parks, Jacob Robinson made it to 1st, and when Kyle Arrend singled a play was attempted to get Robinson at 3rd, when the ball went over 3rd baseman Jimmy Herold and off the visitors dugout and bounced right to Herold. Robinson had committed to going and the throw was waiting for him at home, The attempted head first slide would of made Pete Rose proud but K J Jimison with the ball tagged out Robinson for the 2nd out of the inning. After a wild pitch allowed Arrend to get to 3rd,  Mgr. Joe Cantrell lifted his lefty for J R Nixon who got  catcher Joey Watson to fly out to Pruim in center But the Redlegs had got 2 runs and now trailed 10 to 3. The Boars uneventful 5th sent the Boars down in order with 2 ground outs and a fly out to right. Wild Boars 10, Redlegs 3.

After 3 straight walks were issued to the next 3 batters Cantrell lifted Nixon for, Nick Stacy.  Stacy got the ground ball he needed but catcher  K J Jimison failed to tag home on the force but did throw Sullivan out at 1st for the 1st out, but it  allowed 2 runs in that were charged to Nixon. a ground out to Markus Hall to Minner, or 6 to 3 was the 2nd out and Stacy struck out Parks to end the Inning. and the Redlegs had again inched closer Boars 10 to the Redlegs 5.

The Bottom of the 6th brought some changes, Offensively for the Boars. Nick Stacy led off with a single. Brandon Lucas was walked, Dylan Pletsch drove in a run with a double. Markus Hall hit a single and was lifted for a pinch runner because of a strained hamstring,  Rob Johnson then stole 2nd and scored off Jimmy Herolds 2nd single of the day. Thomas Troy and Gary North added singles and Sully Minner launched a ball to the fence and cleared the bases and pulled up at 3rd with a 3 RBI, triple. after a strike out and a fly out the Boars had added 6 more runs and led 16 to 5.

Brandon Lucas came on to close out the game but never could comfortable or find a groove he liked. so after a couple walks and a WP allowed 2 runs to cross, Lucas was relieved by K J Jimison. Jimison now on in relief struck out Howard for the 1st out.  James Robinson got a single when Jimison struck out pitcher Luke Campbell and Tim Sullivan went down looking at a called 3rd strike.

The final was the Redlegs 7 and the Wild Boars 16. These 2 teams will rematch in the regular season  Double Header finale, at Howell Field on Sunday August 19th come out and catch a game it should be a good one . Hope you can make it.

Travis Knight still presents problem for the Knights

By Joe Cantrell 08/08/2018, 7:15pm EDT

The Beard gives up 2 over 7 but stands tall

Oak Grove Park, Centerville Ohio. August 7,2018

The Boars went to Oak Grove as visitors to battle the Knights at Oak Grove park in Centerville, They sent veteran RHP Travis (the beard ) Knight to the mound to do battle with former Boars pitcher Zach Carroll. Carroll was dealing in the top of the first after an opening hit by Dylan Pletsch who promptly stole 2nd and then 3rd and a BB to Markus Hall who stole 2nd. Carroll settled down and stuck out the next 3 Boars hitters looking giving up -0- Runs. Knight was ready to counter retiring the first 3 batters he faced with the aid of his defense. Lead off hitter Jake Postel flied out to Gary North  in  Left, Jarel Bristol was taken out at 1st by Markus Hall the Boars Shortstop, and Knights skipper Alec Hutzleman was put out at first by 3rd baseman Nick Stacy.

In the 2nd the Boars went down again in order to Carroll, with a fly out to right a 5 to 3 and another strike out  Carrolls 4th, and this was shaping up to be another pitching dual between the two veteran pitchers. Knight faced 4 batters in the bottom of the 2nd and again Hall, and Stacy did their part getting the first two Knights hitters, and after a base on balls to Anthony Turner. Austin McCabe lined a shot right back to Knight and the inning was over.

In the 3rd the Boars scored first. Dave Pruim drew a walk, Dylan Pletsch was hit by a pitch and Markus Hall tore into the 1st pitch for a double. A perfect throw and another perfect relay to Hutzleman got Pletsch at the Plate for the 2nd out. Rich Navratil snagged a ball for out #3 as he stepped on first. The Boars led 1 to 0 as the Knights came to bat. The lead was short as the Knights came up, after a HBP and a sac fly to move the runner up Postel popped out to Hall for out #2, when Jarel Bristol launched it over the center field fence for a home run and 2 RBI's the Knights led 2 to 1 over the Boars.

Sully Minner led off the 4th with a home run of his own ( His 3rd on the Year). Gary North singled,Thomas Troy was walked, after a sac fly by J.R. Nixon moved the runners up, Nick Stacy was HBP. Travis Knight hit a sac fly scoring North, Pruim walked his 2nd on the night and Pletsch walked as well.  Markus Hall brought them in with a singlefor his 3rd RBI on the night. The Boars now leading 6 to 2 never looked back after that point.  Knight retired the Knights hitters with a ground out to 1st and 2 strikeouts in order.

Thomas Troy lifted a ball into the twi-night sky in the 5th that found its way over the left field fence for his 4th home run on the season. JR Nixon singled and moved to 2nd after Stacy was walked, Travis Knight helped his cause by hitting a single, scoring Nixon and sending Stacy to 3rd. Boars lead was now 8 to 2.

Knight gave a hit to McCabe to start the bottom of the 5th when McCabe bunted and the throw got past Minner and sailed down the right field line. McCabe went past 2nd and dug hard for 3rd Dave Pruim came up with the ball and threw a laser shot to Stacy beating McCabe to the base Stacy then applied the tag and there was 1 down. After a fly out to Thomas Troy, a ground out back to Knight ended the 5th.

In the 6th Markus Hall reached first stole 2nd and scored an a RBI single by Jimmy Herold before the Boars were retired the Boars led by 7 after their at bat Boars 9 Knights 2. Jake Postel reached first after a mishandled feed from Sully Minner to Travis Knight at first allowed him to get on and walks issued to Bristol and Hutzleman, drew a visit to mound by Boars Manager Joe Cantrell to check on his veteran pitcher, all was well as Cantrell set the defense and Knight went back to work. Striking out Connor Bishop and with  the bases still loaded with Knights, Nick Taylor grounded sharply to Nick Stacy at 3rd drawn up to the grass Nick threw home getting Postel, and Herold spun and threw to Minner for the 5-2-3 Double Play ending the inning and the Knights threat.

The Boars went down 1,2,3  in the 7th and set up for the defense to hold the game. After a base on balls to Turner, Knight got McCabe to strike out his 4th of the game, Rich Navratil singled, Zach Carroll hit a ball destined to go between short and 3rd but an ESPN highlight grab by Boars Shortstop Markus Hall who sprang to his knees and threw out Turner at 3rd put 2 outs in the books as Carroll reached on an FC.  With 2 on and 2 out Jake Posetl ground sharply to Sully Minner at first who stepped on the bag and gave the game to the Boars.

Travis Knight took a complete game 3 hitter giving up 2 earned  and 4 K's

Boars take 2 from Cardinals in final meeting of regular season

Oak Grove Park Centerville Ohio,

July 29,2018

The Boars hoped to snap the 3 game losing skid they have been on. With little offensive production over the last few games this seamed to be a big task. The Cardinals came into town to play the Double Header against the Boars at Oak Grove Park in Centerville.

The visiting Boars came away with nothing in the top of the first, While the Cardinals took advantage of some walks and a timely hit by Brenden Anderson, to push 2 runs across in the bottom of the first.

The Boars put together a couple hits, and a walk to score a couple to tie the game when a big 2 RBI, double off the bat of Jimmy Herold put the Boars on top 4 to 2 in the 2nd. Pletsch seem to settle getting the first batter he faced in the bottom of the 2nd to strike out, but a walk to Boykin and a HPB to lead off batter Cusick and again a walk to Ryan loaded the bases. Pletsch got Cvetkovich to strike out, and long fly ball from Nick Marshon stayed in the park and was caught by the Boars Center fielder stranding the base runners with NO damage. Boars still led 4 to 2 after 2.

In the 3rd the Boars pulled out another run, when Pletsch doubled and scored off the RBI single by Thomas Troy,  and the Boars lead increased to 5 to 2. Pletsch settled and retired the Cardinals hitters 1,2,3 in the 3rd.

In the top of the 4th Boars DH Joe Cantrell led off with single, and made it as far as 2nd when a sharp hit ball to the pitcher forced Cantrell at 3rd.  Sully Minner collected his 1st of 2 doubles on the day and collected the 2 RBI's , Pletsch drew a walk and Thomas Troy got his 2nd hit of the day and collected 2 more RBI's bringing home Minner and Pletsch as the Boars pulled out to an 8 to 2 Lead. The bottom of the 4th Pletsch gave up 2 more runs to the Cardinals.  Holley had a single as did Cusick both were brought home by Cvetcovich's single and the Boars lead was cut to 4,   Boars 8, Cardinals 4.

The Boars unloaded in the 5th after J.R. Nixon struck out, KJ Jimison and Joe Cantrell singled the next 2 batters walked scoring Jimison. and Cantrell scored when Jimmy Herold was HBP .  A SAC fly by Minner scored Markus Hall, and Dylan Pletsch singled home an RBI with Herold scoring and the Boars had crossed the plate 5 times to increase the lead to 13. Sully Minner was brought in to relieve Pletsch in the bottom of the 5th and retired the Cardinals in 5 hitters but 0 runs.  Boars lead after 5 was  13 to 4.

Boars pushed 2 more across in the 6th when North and Jimison crossed home plate after Markus Hall doubled collecting the RBI's. The Cardinals threatened with another runner on 3rd after leadoff hitter Brandon Cusick sent the ball to the fence and pulled in to 3rd with a stand up triple, But the threat was short, as the next 3 batters were retired and the runner left at 3rd. after the 6th the Boars lead was 15 to 4.

Sully Minner continued to be hot as he helped himself with his 2nd double on the day and after a walk to Pletsch, Thomas Troy hit a double driving in his 3rd RBI. Gary North a waiting list prospect added to the Boars a few weeks back locked in on a Curve ball and drove it over the center field fence and completing the boars scoring for the day. The Cardinals sent 5 hitters to the plate in the bottom of the 7th but unfortunately came away with nothing as the Boars defense held on to win.  Boars 19 Cardinals 4.

Boars Offensive Player of the game from game 1 was Sully Minner going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's

HM goes to Gary North for a Home Run and Thomas Troy for 3 for 5 with 3 RBI's

Boars Defensive Player of the game from game 1 goes to Jimmy Herold working with 2 Pitchers keeping both on track hanging on with 8 K's for 2 Pitchers

Dylan Pletsch takes the win and Sully Minner gets the save his first on the year.

In the late game at Oak Grove the Boars switched to the  home team and sent Sully Minner to the mound for his 1st start in a Boars uniform.  The Cardinals jumped out early when a triple by the 2 hole hitter was singled in off the bat of Nathan Duncan and the Cards led in the visiting half of the 1st. The Boars in the bottom half of the 1st went down without scoring and the Cardinals led 1 to 0 after 1.

Minner retired the Cardinals in order in the 2nd, striking out the 1st and 3rd batters he faced bringing the Boars back up. The Boars wasted little time Troy and Minner walked, North singled in, and Nixon drove in 2 to help the Boars  take a 2 to 1 lead, after a double play left North at 3rd and 2 down Joe Cantrell sliced a single down the left field line that was just fare to drive in North and collect the RBI and put the Boars up 3 to 1  in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Both teams remained quiet in the 3rd, Brandon Cusick managed a double. but the next batter struck out and then a long fly ball from Mershon snagged in center, and the next batter struck out stranding Cusick. The Boars managed to get some walks in the home half of the 2nd but just never got a run across. The Boars lead was still 3 to 1.

The Cardinals tied the game off Minner in the 4th with singles by Duncan and Theis and a big hit triple from Malachi Holley cleared the bases leaving him at 3rd. but the 2nd strike out of the inning and a ground out 4-3 left Holley stranded. However the tie was short as Gary North drew a opening walk advanced on 2, Mershon wild pitches and scored when JR Nixon reached base on a error, a dropped ball in right field. Boars lead 4 to 3.

Gary North was brought in to hold the lead,  and though he started rocky found his footing as he and his catcher KJ Jimison were on the same page. after giving up a double to the leadoff hitter North got Mershon to fly to right, struck out Duncan and popped Valdez to Jimmy Herold now at 3rd.  Boars shortstop Markus Hall led off with a walk advanced on a WP stole 3rd and scored on the next single. Pletsch was HBP and Troy singled Sully Minner had a sac fly to right and Gary North hit his 2nd career MVABL Home Run. As the dust settled the Boars had added 5 runs and led 9 to 3.

North hit his stride striking out the next 2 batters and adding a circus style catch that  he dove for to get the 3rd out retiring the Cardinals in order. Mershon matched the feet by retiring the Boars in order with 2 K's and a flyout to right. Boars still led 9 to 3.

Cusick led off with a single but was retired at 2nd when Markus Hall fielded the ground ball, but the Boars failed to turn 2 with the Cardinals base runner getting quickly up the line to beat the throw. But the 2nd time was the charm as Nick Mershon grounded sharply to Hall who fed it to Thomas Troy who went to Nixon at first to complete the 6-4-3 double play and end the game. Boars 9 the Cardinals 3.

Boars Offensive Player of the game Gary North who was 2 for 2 with a BB and 3 runs scored

Knight returns to form in 13 innings at Howell

By Joe Cantrell 07/15/2018, 9:15pm EDT

The Beard stands tall in epic battle with the Machine

Howell Field, Dayton Ohio July 15th 2018

The Boars went to Howell Field to battle with the Machine on Sunday, in a 1 and 4 Double Header after the All Star Break. The game started for the Boars as the season opener did with the lead off batter Markus Hall (Instead of Boars 2017 MVP Meade Tabata) Getting a hit and scoring in the first inning. The Boars took a 1-0 lead that was short, The Machine put up 2 and led 2 to 1 after 1.

The Machine added 3 more in the 2nd, off Boars pitcher Brandon Lucas, as the Boars bats remained quiet.

Lucas managed to get  through  the 4th inning trailing 5 to 1, Travis Knight came on in the 5th and still managed to keep the Machine bats quiet. While the Boars managed to get 2 runs to close to within 2 off the lead off triple by Brandon Lucas who scored on the sac fly by Zach Stacy.  Boars Captain KJ Jimison hit a single and advanced to 3rd when Hall singled and he scored on a RBI single from Jimmy Herold. The Machine led 5 to 3.

An unearned run scored on an error by 1st baseman, Zach Stacy and it gave the Machine a 3 run cushion but they did not need as the Boars bats fell silent and game 1 went to the Machine. 6 to 3.

Boars Offensive Player of the game went to Jimmy Herold going 3 for 2 RBI,

HM to Markus Hall and Brandon Lucas

Boars Defensive  player of the game Jordan Ovbercash #14.

Game 2 watched Kevin Reynolds and Travis Knight square off for an instant classic with neither pitcher giving an inch through the regulation 7 innings neither team scored. Both Reynolds and Knight were aided by some spectacular defensive plays allowing them to get out of jams. Reynolds bested Knight with strike outs but the Boars defense held its own.  and through 7 the game stayed 0 to 0.

In the 8th the Machine got an RBI from a Paul Wilson single bringing in Carpenter,  Boars Lead off hitter Jimmy Herold singled for the Boars and J.R. Nixon moved him with a sac Bunt, After a strikeout from Thomas Troy the Boars where down to their last out with the tying run on 2nd. Sully Minner ripped a ball down the 1st base line to score Herold from 2nd,  and the game that was destined for extras got it.

The Machine brought on Carpenter to pitch  as a fresh arm while Knight continued on, fielding a line shot right back up the middle in the 10th and with defensive plays still being made, Knight went 11 innings with 1 earned run and 1 strike out and 3 BB,  in which 2 were coaches free passes.  The Boars brought on Nick Stacy but an error proved costly getting a runner on with 2  outs another runner and a walk to the very dangerous Paul Wilson. But this time it was not meant to work as Kevin Reynolds hit a ball to right that Boars Right Fielder Dave Pruim just could not get too and Reynolds went to 2nd with 2 RBI's.

The Boars could not counter and fell 3 to 1 to the Machine in what will go down as the Reynolds -  Knight clash of 2018.

Boars Offensive Player of the Game Gary North #21, 3 for 2

HM points to Sully Minner #29 for a clutch hit single with RBI.

Boars Defensive Player of the game Travis Knight #24.
