Rookies stay hot for Boars but still double Loss to Slammers

By Joe Cantrell 05/06/2018, 10:30pm EDT

Lucas Pitches well. Stacy and Pletsch combine to strke out 13

Bellbrook Ohio
Sunday May 6, 2018
The Wild Boars traveled to Bellbrook to take on   last years season Champions the South Dayton    Slammers,  in a Double Header on Sunday.  Expectations where high as the Boars new Rookie class has been playing at such a high level the team has a different feel this year. Veteran Pitcher and team Captain Brandon Lucas, took the mound in game 1 and pitched well enough to get a win   but a couple of long balls from the Slammers big hitters ruined the first game for the Boars. Rookie 1st baseman Sully Minner lit up the sky with his first Home Run of the season a hard shot launched to right center but the Boars could only put up 3 and took the game 1 loss to the Slammers 7 to 3. in 7 innings.
In game 2 The Slammers took an early lead and seemed to be on cruise control as the Boars could only scratch 1 run in the 2nd inning for new player and  veteran pitcher Nick Stacy.. In the 5th the rookies again took charge against the Slammers, as the Boars took the game lead, off the bats of Thomas Troy and Sully Minner. Troy hit a long ball that landed at the base of the outfield fence and pulled up into 2nd with a double and an RBI. Minner continued with the hot bat for the team with a 2 RBI single in the 5th The Boars had the lead 6 to 3.
New rookie pitcher Dylan Pletsch came in to try to hold the lead striking out 10 Slammers hitters. The Boars led was held in check into the 7th and in the the top of the 7th a mistake proved costly a called 3rd strike hit the ground and the throw got away from Boars 1st baseman, and rolled into right field. The Slammers put the 2 runs up they needed to force extra innings and showed the Boars why they were last seasons champs.
Neither team scored until the top of the 9th when the Slammers hitters got on base and the ever dangerous bat of Todd Barhorst strolled to the plate. Todd made the Boars pay for a mistaken pitch and launched it for a 2 run blast. Slammers 2nd baseman stood on home plate and made a couple derogatory comments toward both Boars Catcher and Pitcher before returning to the dug out. A few feelings got hurt as the next Slammers hitter got hit by a pitch, Both benches received a warning from the Home Plate Umpire and the Slammers were retired. The Boars were unable to answer the 2 runs and fell to the Slammers 8 to 6 but put up a great effort and showing that the team has made changes for the better and hopefully can turn this slide into a couple more more wins before the season is over and showing The Wild Boars have improved from years past.
