Carey gets 4th win on season

Carlisle High School, Carlisle Ohio July 14th 2019

The boars returned to Carlisle Ohio to battle with the Rangers on Sunday. The Boars Offense went to work by hitting back to back to back doubles from the top 3 Boars batters, Hall, Minner, and Carey each had a double as the Boars scored 2 runs in the 1st. The Rangers quickly matched that with 2 runs of their own and the game was knotted at 2.

Sully Minner scored the Boars 3rd run off a sac fly to left field from Gary North and the Boars led 3 to 2 in the 3rd inning. Beegle who now had composed himself denied the rangers runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings striking out 6 batters along the way.

But the 6th proved dangerous with the Rangers top of the lineup at the plate.  Nick Gilmore led off with a single and after a pop fly to 3rd for the 1st out and Ben Schooler walking.  A ground ball which usually spells the double play for the Boars turned costly as an unusual  error allowed all runners to be safe. Dominic Kuzujanakis struck a double and the Rangers had a 3 run lead. Joey Wilson came on and was able to retire 2 batters needed to stop the Rangers but the damage was done.

The Boars made the attempt to come back but the bats were still just off. Carey led off with a double and when Joey Wilson was hit by a pitch the runners were there. The final 2 hitters grounded out and the Rangers won 6 to 3.

Brandon Beegle took the loss pitching 5 1/3 with 6 K's, 4 BB, 1 HBP , 3 earned runs.

Zac Carey did manage Boars Offensive Player of the game going 3 for 3, with 1 RBI, and 1-2/B, 1 BB.

After a brief intermission with lunch provided by Nick Gilmore's family  who really, I cannot say enough about. Nicks dad cooked hot dogs on a hot July day and not just for the Rangers players, but for both teams, and the umpires. I cannot remember a game where I have not seen Nick without either his Dad, or his Grandmother or Grandfather. They have always been kind and respectful even when we were having not such great years. They always had considerate words of encouragement to say. Nick Gilmore and his family are what makes the MVABL a great place to play, it is family even though we are competitors we are all one family and we owe the Gilmore's our thanks for all they are, and do.

Game 2 saw the Boars going back as the Home team after Zac Carey now on the mound, retired the Rangers in order striking out 2.

The Boars bats woke up and woke up big, The Boars sent the lineup to the plate in the 1st scoring 7 times, Hall was walked, Minner singled, and Carey doubled driving in a run, Herold and North were both on when Brian Erbe launched a shot to left field landing on the softball field behind the baseball field and picking up hist 1st HR and 3 RBI's. Colin Minner singled and scored the final run in the frame when Brandon Beegle singled him home. and the Boars led 7 to 0.

Carey struck out 2 more in the 2nd as the Rangers were retired again. The Boars picked back up where the 1st had ended. Scoring 5 more runs in the 2nd. New Rookie Jacob Arthur picked up a double and an RBI his first hit of the day.

Carey in the 3rd again was striking out batters in pairs as the Rangers batters were sent down.  The Boars scratched a run across after Sully Minner doubled and was brought home by Zac Carey's 2nd double of the game driving in another to help his cause. Boars were leading after 3 innings by a score of 13 to 0.

In the Ranger 4th after a fly ball to Markus Hall at short, singles by Nick Gilmore and Pederson, and Ben Schooler netted a couple runs from a single by Domininc Kuzujanakis, and the Rangers had scored twice. Carey was able to get his 2 strikeouts his 7th and 8th on the day.

The Boars in the bottom the 4th quickly reclaimed the 2 runs and added a 3rd.  from a 2 Run RBI from Markus Hall. The Boars were still holding strong with the lead 16 to 2 over the Rangers.

Carey struck out the Rangers hitters in order in the 5th for his 11th on the day. The Boars had finished scoring on the day the 5th and 6th went by while the Rangers managed a run in the 6th and one in the 7th to draw the score to 16 to 4,  but Carey managed his 12th and 13th strike outs,  but on the 13th the ball scooted away from catcher Gary North allowing the runner on. With one out Nick Gilmore grounded to 3rd baseman Brian Erbe, breaking his bat, Erbe threw Gilmore out for the 2nd out,  when the runner on 2nd tried for 3rd Jimmy Herold,  playing 1st delivered the perfect throw and the 3rd out was recorded giving the boars the win.

Zac Carey took his 4th win on the season with 7 IP, 13 k's, 1 BB, 2 earned.

Zac Carey took Boars Offensive Player of the Game going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and 2 Doubles.

Boars Defensive Player of the Game Jimmy Herold for the 5 to 3 to 5  double play with a HM to Brian Erbe for the tag.

Boars sweep Indians but drop one to Royals

July 7th 2019

Carlisle High School, Carlisle Ohio.

The Boars arrived in Carlisle to play the Indians and came away with 2 wins in the heat of the July day. Zac Carey picked up his 3rd win on the season tossing a 2 hit shutout to the Indians who's hits came of the bat of Aaron "Mookie" Holmes.

The Boars won game #1, 17 to 0 with Carey picking up the complete game win, with 11 K's on the day.  Sully Minner was 3 for 3 and Jimmy Herold went 4 for 4 both driving in 2 RBI's on the day

In game #2 the Boars red hot bats were even hotter as the Boars first 7 hitters scored and at the end of their half had scored 10 runs.

Gary North took the mound and was picking up his 2nd win on the season

Markus Hall came in in a non save situation and retired the Tribe in order to end the game with the Boars winning 20 to 0.

Brian Erbe was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's while, Markus Hall 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and a double.

But what a different a day makes, The Boars went to Oak Grove for the final night game against the Royals, and the Royals had a few tricks left up their sleeve.

Dobbins was handed his first loss of the season after pitching a great outing 2 weeks prior against the Royals. The BOars bats cooled off fast and the Boars hitters never recorded a hit till the 5th inning when Colin Minner got a single and after left fielder Zac Kirby was hit by pitch, Dylan Pletsch drove a double to the fence at Oak Grove , scoring 2 runs. Pletsch stole 3rd but never made it home as the Royals retired the Boars off a short pop fly.

The Boars managed to get 2 extra runs but it was not enough to overcome the Royals lead and the Boars fell 14 to 4 on the Tuesday night game.

Dobbins took the loss only lasting 3 innings before the umpire decided his night was over. North and Kirby finished the game

Colin Minner scored twice once on a hit and once on a walk , Pletsch managed only a double and 2 RBI's

The Boars head back to Carlisle Sunday to take on the Rangers in a DH at 1pm and 3:30 come on down and check out the teams in July.

In Game #1 The Boars were sending Rookie Zac Carey to the Mound to battle the Royals tough lineup, but it would prove that the day would go Carey's way.

The visiting Boars in game #1 started the game with a K by Dylan Pletsch, Markus Hall walked and rookie Sean Johnson, was HBP his 4th on the season. Jimmy Herold's single moved the runners up and Sully Minners double brought in 2 runs, and moved Herold to 3rd. Minners 5th double on the season. Gary North singled and drove in Herold and Minner and the Boars had taken a 4 to 0 lead in the top of the 1st.

Carey took the mound staked to a 4 run lead which would as it turned out to be more than enough, He retired the Royals in order and the Boars were back up, Royals pitching was up to the task and sent the Boars down in order, and bringing the Royals back up to hit in the 2nd.

After a leadoff walk to Evan Koogler, who moved up to 2nd on a F/C to get the batter at 1st, Carey struck the next batter out, Koogler tried to take 3rd on a steal but was gunned down by Boars catcher Jimmy Herold, and a sweep tag by 3rd Baseman Brian Erbe, for the 3rd out.

In the top of the 3rd the Boars were back at it, with the top of the order back at the plate. Pletsch singled and stole 2nd, Hall was HBP, Johnson had an RBI hit driving in Pletsch. Herold and North both added RBI hits and the Boars lead increased to 8.

Carey resumed work striking out the first 2 batters and inducing a ground ball for the 3rd out. While the Boars top of the 4th, 5th , and 6th were uneventful, Carey kept on rolling batter after batter retiring Royals Hitters in each of the bottom half of the innings and recording 9 strikeouts.

In the top of the 7th Jacob Cooper hit a single, he later scored on Jacob Greve's RBI grounder, and the Boars had 9 to 0 lead. Carey in the final frame induced a ground out to short and another one to 2nd, and recorded his 10th K of the day to end it with Boars on top, Boars 9,and the Royals 0.

Game #2

The Boars were now the home team as they got set for game 2. The Royals and the Boars both were in a battle that saw the game tied 3 times by the Boars. The Boars sent another Rookie to the mound in Jacob Greve who was just returning from a 2 month absence,  and it prove to be a little shaky for the Rookie until the a veteran presence stepped in to lend a hand.

The visiting Royals wasted little time by striking first in the top of the 1st and putting 2 runs up right away by the first 2 hitters.  The Boars came to bat down but Hall and Johnson quickly evened the score, after RBI's from Dylan Pletsch and Jimmy Herold. evened the game at 2 all after 1 complete.

In the 2nd the Royals added a run after a HBP and a few ill timed walks allowed the Royals to again take the lead.  Boars 2nd inning leadoff batter Matt Seibert, found the gap and wound up striding into 3rd standing.  Connor Morris's RBI single drove in Seibert and the game was again tied at 3 all.

The Big inning for the Royals came in the 3rd. After a pop fly to 2nd that Markus Hall ranged for, a BB and a HBP and a hit single lifted Greve from the game. Veteran Pitcher P.J. Dobbins was put in to try to hold the damage minimal. But the Royals pulled off 4 runs, on 3 hits, to take the lead 7 to 3.

Johnson led off with a single and then promptly stole 2nd and 3rd. Jimmy Herold was walked but he then stole 2nd. Minner hit a foul ball that the 1st baseman ranged over and caught, but Johnson was standing on the bag when he caught it, with his back to the field Johnson went and the speedy runner was safe at home.Herold scored on North's single as the Boars were closing again. Matt Seibert hit a double which scored North, and Brian Erbe found a gap to the fence and was standing at 3rd with an RBI triple. The Boars had again tied the game at 7.

Dobbins had now settled in and hit his stride, keeping the Royals off the scoreboard in the 4th, from Jacob Coopers double and Zac Carey's triple and a Markus Hall sac fly.  In the 5th, Minner and North, singled and moved up on a wild pitch, then were driven home by Matt Seiberts single. While in the 6th, the Boars added their final 2 runs from a Connor Morris double and a Zac Carey double and Carey was brought home by a Jacob Greve's RBI single.   While the Boars had  added 2 in the 4th, 2 more in the 5th and a final 2 in the 6th to  lead 13 to 7.

Dobbins started the 7th with a K, then allowed a sharp hit single but a flyout to center for the 2nd out. Then a sharply hit ball to 3rd was short hopped by 3rd baseman Rookie Brian Erbe who flipped the ball to Hall and the game was over with the Boars on top 13 to 7.

Middletown Madison High School, June 23, 2019

The Boars traveled south to take on the Camden Redlegs on Sunday, 2 Rookies making debuts for the Boars Pitching rotation. In Game #1 saw Brandon Beegle take on Redlegs ace Aaron Carmack. The Boars struck in the first wasting little time on the always dangerous Redlegs. Markus Hall was hit by a pitch in his first at bat, he was not at first for long as Rookie Sean Johnson sliced a ball to the gap which went to  the fence scoring Hall and Johnson pulled into 3rd with his first Triple of the day.

Johnson made it home on Dylan Pletsch's first hit on the day. Pletsch, then scored on Sully Minners RBI single. The Boars led 3 to 0.

That score held till the top of the 4th inning when Gary North drew a 1 out walk and quickly stole 2nd, Brian Erbe hit into a fielders choice but the throw went high to Mike Hartman and North took home to put the Boars up 4 to 0.

Kyle Arrend scored in the bottom of the 4th after a single and a stolen base and a double by Saige Micomonaco, Broke up Beegle's shutout, and after 4 innings the Boars led 4 to 1.

Top of the 5th brought the top of the Boars order back up and they started again were they left off.  Hall this time hitting a double, But Sean Johnson struck again into the gap and Hall scored on Johnson's 2nd Triple on the day. Pletsch walked and stole 2nd and Jimmy Herold drove them both in with a single. Boars lead had increased 7 to 1.

Beegle now with a 6 run lead struck out the side in the bottom of the 5th, and after a Matt Morrison single, Jacob Robinson hit a ball to Center that Jacob Cooper managed to run down, but just as he caught the ball he also found the fence and  the resulting collision allowed the ball to tip toe along the top cap and fall just on the other side for a home run. Beegle finished the 6th and 7th and the Boars won 7 to 3.

Brandon Beegle went the distance 7 innings striking out 6 giving up 3 earned runs to take his first win.

Game #2 saw another Rookie pitcher take the mound for the Boars home game. Zac Carey  struck out 3 Redlegs hitters in the first inning with Kyle Arrend managing a single, as the Boars came to bat.  Redlegs pitcher Michael Cookson, walked Hall and Johnson, Pletsch popped up to 3rd and Jimmy Herold lined to short and Morrison stepped on 2nd to double up Hall.

Colin Minner at 2nd recorded assist off the first 2 batters on sharp grounders, and Markus Hall at Short took the final 6-3 recorded out in the top of the 2nd.

The 3rd inning came and went with only the Boars threatening in the Bottom, but a line drive snagged by center fielder Jacob Robinson, diving with 2 outs, prevented and ended the threat of any runs scoring for the Boars.

The Redlegs scored first in the 4th, Matt Morrison was out on a play at the plate which saw him and Gary North, the Boars catcher both diving for the same piece of real estate, the umpire saw it as North tagging Morrison and an out. but Kyle Arrend's double brought home, Jacob Robinson for the first and only run of the game for the Redlegs.  Dylan Pletsch's  center field dive with 2 outs ended the Redlegs at bat.

With the Boars hitting in the bottom the 4th,  saw a couple walks lead to a couple wild pitches which allowed Jimmy Herold the recipient of the walk to score and tie the game at 1. Colin Minner drove in his brother for an RBI F/C which gave the Boars a 2 to 1 lead and, Gary North, Scored on another wild pitch and Brian Erbe hit a single, and scored on Jacob Coopers RBI single. The Boars had plated 4 runs and had the lead 4 to 1.

Minner picks up first win on season

Oak Grove Park, Centerville Ohio, 6-13-19

The Boars returned from the 2 week layoff and unleashed a Offensive barrage, that saw 14 hitters go to the plate and score 8 runs in the first inning. Boars second baseman Markus Hall pulled a lead off walk but was gunned down by catcher Difono Arnold trying to take 3rd base.  Sully Minner scored the Boars first run, and Hall after a redeeming single in his 2nd at bat of the inning, which drove  in a run, then scored the last run of the first inning.

It turns out that that would be all Sully Minner would need as he retired the Indians hitters, in both the 1st and 2nd innings, striking out the final 2 batters in the 2nd. The Boars then continued and added 4 more runs in the 2nd, to pull out to a 12 to 0 lead, Starting with another RBI double from Greg Pfeiffer his 2nd on the day with 3 RBIs.  Markus Hall cleared the bases with sharp hit drive just past the Center fielder Alan Dotson's glove, as he made the diving attempt, but Hall was already headed to 3rd, for his 2nd triple on the year. Hall scored when Sully Minner hit into a F/C but collected the RBI his 1st on the day.

In the 3rd the first blemish showed itself on Minners pitching a BB was issued to the Indians pitcher, and after a single by Dotson advanced him to 2nd. Indians skipper Mike Golding hit a sharp shot to 3rd base,  which allowed Boars rookie 3rd baseman Brian Erbe to double off Avery, and throw Golding out at first for the 5-U-5-3 double play.   But the big bat of Mookie Holmes  ripped a triple to right field scoring Dotson and allowing the Indians first run.

Gary North led off the Boars 3rd with a single,  and Greg Pfeiffer swinging a very hot bat on the day,  reached on an error to load the bases. Just signed new rookie Conner Morris collected an RBI on a FC, And the Boars were back up by 12.

The Indians went down in the 4th uneventful,  while the Boars added 4 more to pad the lead for their veteran pitcher.  Sully Minner took a lead off double and scored off Colin Minners single ironically giving him his 2nd RBI, as the Minners continue to keep pace with each other. C. Minner  went to 3rd on a double by Gary North, who were both brought in by Brian Erbe's Double along with his 2 RBI's. Erbe scored on Greg Pfeiffer's 3rd hit on the day and collected his 4th RBI on the day.  As the Boars lead increased to 17 to 1.

Greg Pfeiffer came on in relief and had some struggles before settling down. After hitting the first batter and giving up a hit to lead off hitter Alan Dotson, Peiffer, struck out Golding and but then gave up a walk.  A fly out to center allowed another run to score and then back to back hits scored another run. Pfeiffer then struck out the last batter for his 2nd on the day.  The score had gone to the Boars 17 and the Indians 5.

The Boars came up with the top of the order up, Markus Hall led off with a double, leaving him just a homer short of the cycle, Minner hit a single, and collected his 2nd RBI on the day.  Jimmy Herold hit a double which scored Minner, after back to back walks loaded the bases, Brian Erbe was hit by a pitch ending the game at 20 to 5.

Brian Erbe takes Boars Defensive Player of the Game, for 3- Assist and 1 PO with the 5-U+5-3 double play.

Markus Hall Takes Boars Offensive player of the Game, going  3 for 4, with a single, a Double and a Triple 1- BB, 3 runs scored.

Greg Pfeiffer takes the honorabl Mention this week going 3 for 4 with, 2- Doubles, 2, Runs and 4-RBI's

The Boars are off for Fathers day weekend and want to wish all Fathers the best day with their families. The Boars return to action on 6/23/2019 at Middletown Madison against the Redlegs in a DH starting at 1:00 pm. Come out and see the Boars and the Redlegs.
