Rangers Dethrone Knights

By Jonmarc Lippincott 07/20/2023, 10:30pm EDT

The Rangers resumed its post-All Star Game schedule with a Thursday night affair against the Wright Knights at Oak Grove Park.

Caleb Wesley toed the rubber for his MVABL debut and would ultimately toss 4 innings, allowing 3 runs and struck out 5 to pick up his first Rangers win.

The Rangers got on the board first as Eric Becker led off the game with a double and later scored on a sac fly from Rob Pederson. The Knights would promptly tie it up as Zach Gomia singled, stole second and third, and scored after Jerel Bristol reached on an error.

The lead went back to the Rangers' favor in the second after an RBI single from Noah Schleinitz and a 2-run single from Brandon Ward.  The advantage increased in the third as Markus Neff singled home Jesse Jones, and Rob Pederson scored as Nick Gilmore reached on an error. The Knights got a couple runs back as Gomia, Bristol and Jordan doubled in succession in the bottom of the third.

Noah Schleinitz took over on the mound in the fifth inning with the Rangers leading 6-3 and stopped the bleeding by striking out 3 of the 4 batters he faced.

The Rangers continued to add on in the top of the sixth inning. Pederson started with a double. After Neff lined out, Cooper Nolte singled home Pederson. Gilmore followed with an RBI double to make it 8-3.

Joe Becker took over in the bottom of the sixth and tossed a scoreless frame.

The game was called after 6 innings as lightning was in the area. The Rangers improve to 15-0 on the season.
