Wild Boars play split DH win against Orioles and Stars

Wild Boars win over Orioles Hang on against Stars in a close one

Sunday July 24th, The Wild Boars remained home for a split DH against the Beavercreek Orioles, and the Southern Ohio Stars.

The Boars welcomed their cross-town sister organization from the Creek. The Boars playing as visitors wasted NO time in breaking out the hits as the Wild Boars batted around in the 1st inning led in big part by Cole Murphy and his first 2 home runs in the 1st inning, one a grand slam adding 4 runs to the Boars total as the Boars put up 11 runs. It took the Birds a couple innings, but they did manage to get to Murphy who was pitching. Dylan Brown and Noah Baer crossed the plate to put the Orioles on the board The score was 12 to 2 after 2.

In the 3rd the Boars came out swinging again adding another 3 runs, Jason Combs was HBP, Matt Seibert reached on an error and Murphy added another RBI with a single bringing him to 6. The Orioles added a run in the 3rd and a run in the 4th. and a final run in the 5th. But the Boars had finally pulled away into the 7th to, 20 to 5 to close the game out after the Orioles final at bat.

Cole Murphy took home Boars Offensive Player of the Game, 4 for 5, with 2 HR, 1 Grand Slam, 6 RBIs, 3 runs scored.

Then came the Stars.

The Boars now home team readied for the Southern Ohio Stars. Jaycob Banks acquired from the trade with Orioles, took the mound. Banks closed out the top of the 1st, with a pop out to 1st then a ball skipped off the runner moving to 2nd for interference and the out, and a fly out to Forbes with a great running catch to his left.  The Boars only managed an un-earned run in the 1st, as Matt Seibert was walked, and after a wild pitch and a passed ball went home when Thomas Troy reached on an E-4.

The score would remain 1 to 0 until the 3rd when the Boars would add another run from Brent Cox, after Cox singled and stole 2nd, Cole Murphy lit into a single and Cox went home to give the Boars a 2 to 1 lead.

The Stars would cut that in half as they finally got to Banks in the 4th. Asa Crockett laced a double, stole 3rd came home on a single by Hunter Warner. The Boars would answer right back with 3 more runs off 2 singles and 3 BB. Minner, Herold and Johnson would all score. But the Boars would also leave bases loaded and strand 3 runners.

Banks would go back out in the 5th he managed a BB and 2 Ks, but a deep fly ball to center was ran down by Bower to save and stop any threat. The Boars would add another 3 runs in the 5th, Thomas Troy, Dylan Bower, and Jimmy Herold would all score with Ryan Griffis knocking in a couple runs with a single. The Boars had pulled to 8 to 2in the 5th.

But the Stars had other ideas and it wasn’t going to be that easy for the Boars. Nick Lyle hit a double and after 2 walks Jackson Lightcap hit a double scoring 3 runs. Lightcap and Warner would also score as the Stars had closed with 5 runs to a score of 8 to 6. The Boars would add 2 more runs as Brandon Bower and Jason Combs would score in the 6th, off a single and HBP. But again, the Boars could have put more on, but they left the bases loaded again. The Boars had pulled out with a little room 10 to 6. But the Stars were resilient after a BB Jackson Forbes now pitching got a 1 to 4 play that Sean Johnson dove for the bag just ahead of the runner. Forbes then gave up a double and then a Home Run to Alex Kasak to bring the score to 10 to 9. Brent Cox was summoned in relief. Cox struck out Dotson, walked Lightcap but finished the game striking out Crockett.

The Wild Boars had held on to win 10 to 9, Jaycob Banks takes the win. Cox gets his 2nd save on the Day, with 2 Ks.

Jimmy Herold takes Boars Offensive Player of the Game going 2 for 3with 2 runs, 2 RBIs

Dylan Bower and Jackson Forbes share Boars Defensive Player of the Game the Outfield came out today running down several balls to rob hitters.

 

The Wild Boars are in action Tuesday at Oak Grove Park at 7pm as they welcome the Darke County Dodgers.
